Mason Ramsey, hands down, from LA, have you seen this kid play? Better than the LA all star Dunn as a freshman

Upperman has OWNED LA this year and nothing will change tonight! /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
NOT THIS TIME------ LA HAS THE TASTE OF HONEY IN THEIR MOUTHS.
LA WINS THIS ONE!!!!

Unfortunately your right......coaches do have their picks. Livingston's all tourney was a toss up....all of the girls did good. Killer was a shoe in but the other spot was up for grabs. Taylor's stat sheet wasn't as great as the Sells girls & West but when you watch her you see what a stat sheet won't tell you. She hustles, handles the ball well & gets the ball to the right people at the right time.
Bfan, If you had to chose who would you have picked?
I WOULD NOT HAVE PICKED THE 2 GIRLS FROM CANNON, BUT AFTER STARTING THIS THREAD I KNOW THAT THEIR HAS TO BE SO MENY FROM EACH TEAM DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY FINISH I NEVER KNEW THIS, SO THATS WHY BOTH WERE CHOSEN. I ALSO FELT THAT SOME OF THE GIRLS FROM LIVINGSTON ACADEMY GOT LEFT OF THE LIST, THAT WAS BETTER THAN SOME WHO WAS CHOSEN, BUT AGAIN LIVINGSTON ACADEMY ONLY HAD ROOM FOR X NUMBER.
-
I know when the district and region were here a couple of years ago coaches had nothing to do with the selections, a group got together by themselves after each night and talked about who did well, including things not in the stat sheet. It went by a formula to an extent, the top finishers had multlple picks. Each host site has the option to do it any way they want I suppose and even though the individual honors are nice I'm sure the players like winning championships better.
This is how it should be. Stat sheets don't tell the whole story always. Some kids have a good tournament and don't get the individual honors they should just because some other kid is the star player evern if they didn't have a good tournament or coach hold something against them, sometimes it just doesn't seem fare to the kids. And as bad as it may seem some coaches do have their favorites on teams for what ever reason, however they are only human.
-
The coaches pick and they also determine how many from
each team will get on the team based on their finish in
the tournament. Believe it's the same way for regular
season & determined when they have their district meeting.
I just didn't know, you see refs setting around at the tables down on the floor and some in the stands. Do the coaches pick their on or do they only vote on kids from other teams.
-
I was just a fan last night at the 7AA district finials with no
child playing and I was just wondering who or how the
all district tournament team was chosen.

You are correct OldCatFan about this being an ugly game. Neither team played their best but LA just has too much talent. York has a good club this year and will improve over the course of the season. I look for them to make some noise come tournament time. You just can't say enough about Chase Dunn. The kid is probably the best pound-for-pound player in the state. He scored 34 and T.J. Smith added 20. That's a great 1-2 punch but we definitely need some other guys to step up on offense.
YES THE GAME WAS U-G-L-Y. LA HAD NO POST PLAY, SHAME ON THEM THE BIGEST KIDS ON THE FLOOR AND NO ACTION CAN'T EVEN HIT OPEN LAY UPS . LAST NIGHT I FELT T.J. SMITH WAS BETTER THAN DUNN, NEVER FELT HE HAD MUCH 'D' BUT LAST NIGHT THE KID HAD IT ALL. HE GETS MY VOTE FOR PALYER OF THE NIGHT. AND YES, PLAYING A GOOD, TEAM NOT THAT YORK WASN'T GOOD, YOU BETTER HAVE MORE THAN 2 PLAYERS. LA WILL WIN IT ALL IN THE DISTRICT BUT TO GET THE BIG TICKET PUNCHED THEY HAD BETTER STEP IT UP, AND I AM SURE COACH MELTON KNOWS THAT AND WILL BE WORKING ON IT, HE IS A GREAT COACH.
-
The two games I have watched they have been running and gunning, pressing.....That is classic Brent Smith, he's coaching exactly like he did when he was coaching boys. Wright can't carry them, thats for sure.....she didn't even score against White Co. She shoots way too much, doesn't play much defense, which is hard to understand because all her brothers were great defenders. I think this maybe the deapest team in the district. I think this game is closer than the critics think. Last year PC almost beat LA at byrdstown and that team went to the state semi-finals. Should be a good one.
Wright wasn't even a starter against LA, I was surprised at that, I thought they look good they can take A, if Garrett gets healthy, a very fun fast team to watch.
-
Don't know yet whose best, but middle TN has several big guys who should be hard to handle this year.
Gaines (Whitehouse)
Mason (CPA)
Kelly (Centennial)
Ramsey (LA)
Puckett (White Co.)
Ramsey ??????? LA dosn't have a top big guy and sure not in middle TN .
-
The Smith boys are not related. Melton will play. Not sure how much though.
TJ and Melton are first cousins
-
Sloppy not really, they need to cut down on turn overs a bit, but good D will causes that and BTW was in our suits all night. If we play like we have been playing it's a win for LA.
Good to see JADA on the floor again.

ALL THE WAY LA!!!!!!
What a fun game to watch.
West what a great game you go girl
What about the great "D"
Looking forward to Fri.
HA! LA, CAN YOU SAY REBOUND, YES WE CAN!!!!
-
LA in a very close one!!!
LA has a lot of Seniors but
I think they have to go to Kilgore early
And by - pass Taylor, she is good but not hardly ready for the big games.
Her time is next year.
WISH YOU ALL THE BEST!
GO LA BRING HOME THE BALL!

Back to the topic I started. The conflict between Allons and Rickman should be another topic, that would go on forever.
Congrat's to Kathy Carr and her girls on the Winn in the Overton County Tourny.I am so happy for you and the girls.
Once again hate to see you leave girls basketball, but I wish you well in whatever you do and I am sure it will be a success.

QUOTE(Overton County Fan @ Feb 23 2007 - 01:22 PM) 826386053Allons made everything that they threw up last night. It was fun to watch. Rickman had a starter out, but with the way Allons was playing I doubt one player would have made a difference.
Seems pretty bad that those girls win the biggest game of their year so far and the parents act the way they do and run the coach off....
You are so right Overton Couny Fan. Wonder when they will realize what the School, Ball Team, Community, etc has lost.
Sad day in girls basketball.

QUOTE(Turnadouble @ Feb 23 2007 - 01:03 PM) 826386021I called one of the parents personally & asked him if he had said anything to the coach. He said nothing had been said to the coach. I think more than a couple parents called the principal about comments that had been made to their kids about "tell your parents this & this & if they don't like this". If you were a parent & you kid was tore up over stuff (parent coach problems) that had nothing to do with them would you have something to say about it?
This started out as parents acting out in a game & yelling at the coach was the problem. Now it is about what parents have to say about coaches. Every parent on that team has had something to say, some good, bad & ugly. We all know Coaches can't please everyone. You opened this subject up like you didn't know anything but it seems like you know alot. If you are trying to say something just say it.
You are right I did open it because I didn't know much then, however after the post I begin to hear things I was just sharing.
Sorry if I hit a nerve I didn't mean to.
I do have something to say Kathy Carr is hard working and a very good coach and she does have a support group. Good coaches are hard to find. So Kathy if you read Coach T hold your head up high and know that you will be missed.

QUOTE(Turnadouble @ Feb 23 2007 - 11:01 AM) 826385837If I'm not mistaken wasn’t the blow up at the game the other night with a bantam parent?? I heard today it was in the bantam game & it was bad…parents should never single a coach out! When I read this post I just assumed it was Varsity you were talking about. From what I’ve heard the Varsity parents haven’t said anything to Kathy…. they may talk to each other (like all parents do) but no one has said anything to Kathy.
I think those parents are of kids who are on varsity as well.
I think some 8th garde parents have been calling the coach and shcool personal.
What I have heard. And if it is bad in bantam now
then what does the coach have to look forward to for the next 3 years.

I would love to see Upperman win this one and I believe
they can. However, they have to play better than they have
been lately. They are due a win, I going out on a limb and
taking Upperman to win.

QUOTE(up2late @ Feb 23 2007 - 07:12 AM) 826385507Bass is playing well right now as well as his teammates. Station Camp might be surprised.
You are so right about Bass. I am looking for a 7AA sweep. I am saying DC in a close one.
GO TIGERS

QUOTE(Turnadouble @ Feb 22 2007 - 09:30 AM) 826384311First, let me say Kathy Carr has done some great things with Allons basketball. She has a lot of great victories under her belt. I know her style of coaching doesn’t always settle well with other people. Some say she shouldn’t yell at these kids like she does but Kathy is a good coach… she knew that getting on to some kids makes them play harder & she knew that some kids couldn’t take it, it tears them down. All in all, as a coach, you can’t please everyone. As a fan & knowing Kathy, I always knew that she was looking out for the girls & winning at the same time.
Now on the other hand I heard things this week that really bothered me…I know better than to listen to gossip but I am hearing it from different people. I heard she took out her frustration (with the parents) on the girls. I hope it’s not true but if it is …I hope Kathy makes it right & leaves the right way. She has accomplished a lot as a ball coach over the years & has a lot to be proud of. I hope everything ends well so she can be remembered for the good not the bad.
I know Allons has good parents…some more vocal than others. I know personally how it is to have words with parents (over ball) that are my friends... but after the dust settles at the end of the day…they were still good people. As Fans & Parents everyone gets into the game & says stuff (some they mean & some they don’t). But Kathy knows how that is, to have a child that plays for someone else, you always want to do what benefits your child more.
Iheard that parents and fans were yelling her NAME out and was telling her what to do, she had a hard time coaching because parents and fans thought she should do things different. Anyone who has ever coached knows that players have to listen to the coach and NOT their parents when on the field or on the court they can't listen to both, and if she told the girls that, I agree with her, KIDS CAN NOT LISTEN TO THEIR PARENTS WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING SPORTS UNLESS THE PARENTS ARE THE COACHS, BOTTON LINE. As a parent it is hard to set quitly sometimes, but it is a must.
I also heard from some of her parents that she has had a great deal
of support only a hand full really don't like her. Whats funny about that is their kids play and are good.
Its not parents who kids are not playing a lot strange.
A lot of gossip going around I guess.

QUOTE(swipper @ Feb 20 2007 - 10:32 PM) 826382074My predictions for the region tournament goes like this
Upperman over Goodpasture
Smith Co. over Station Camp
Livingston over White House
Semi-finals
Livingston over Smith Co.
Finals
Livingston over Upperman
Even though I would like to see Macon pull off the upset over Upperman in the semi-finals. That will not happen I do not believe.
Swipper, I see this one going just like you do and I don't think like you do most of the time.
But 7AA will take region 4
Elizabethton versus Livingston Academy

LA has beat Cannon Co twice, once in regular play and again for the regional title.
