Gant is really good. Probably even outstanding but he isn't a phenom. He is USJ's ace but he has been beaten this year so he is beatable. Bartlett didn't hit the ball well that night (it was very cold) and it was a tight 3-2 ballgame.
What makes a phenom? I would dare say there aren't any pitchers better in the state, there might be some as good but not better. Signing with a SEC school you have to be pretty good I would think.
Baseball is a funny game, but it wouldn't suprise me to see USJ in the championship game.

I have a question. Normally the principal at a school makes the decision or makes the recommendation wheather re-hire or not to re-hire a teacher. What was the case in this situation? Did the outgoing Supt. make this decision on his own without a recommendation from the principal?

Yes, it is just a mans job, career, and life; we should probably just put it behind us and enjoy a few baseball games.

I don't think you should put it behind you but I think the focus for your team and coach should be on winning once you get to state. Forget all the backstabbing and get your team united, Enjoy what you have earned, I am pulling for you guys, unless you play us. Nothing could be better for your coach than to make a great showing. Once the season is over then fight your battle to have your coach rehired.

My money is on USJ or Goodpasture. They are both great teams, and neither is stranger to the Championship game. They played each other for it last year in one of the best baseball games I have ever seen.

I read you screen name & decided that since it is "nob4upost", that the only thing that I would offer is "Dyer County vs Dyersburg Round 3" on Monday is all that I would elaborate on ! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Rivalry at it's best ! (put mildly)
Who is still in tournament? Dyersburg, Dyer Co, Milan, is Westview? Who's in winners and losers bracket?

I watched the game, and didn't feel the umpires made any kind of impact. There were bad calls, but they were going both ways.
But let's not take away from Drew Smith's performance on the mound. The fact is, he just controlled the entire game. USJ couldn't figure him out, and no matter what the umpires did, if you can't score, you can't win. And Smith controlled this part of the game.
Yes, Drew Smith gave an excellent performance.

I would say the umpiring was below average for a high school game. I have been around high school baseball a whole bunch since '99 when I was a freshman and I have never seen either of those umps and I was not impressed by either. The ump behind the plate looked like a hitter's ump and the field umpire looked a little lost. But even if you say the officiating was just ###### poor and went totally against USJ, do you think that really justifies a high school player getting in the face (and from my angle looked like he made contact, nothing major but did look like contact) with an umpire? If you make ANY excuse for that kind of behavior you are just being crazy. Taking it a step further does poor officiating (for both teams) excuse a 10-0 game? You've got to score one to beat your mom, so say what you will but CBHS thoroughly handled USJ tonight and it did answer the question brought up in the preseason whether CBHS could even beat USJ or not.
The umpiring did not win or lose the game for anyone. It is not an excuse for losing. I think USJ went a little flat after the incident. From my angle it looked like there was some contact but it looked like the umpire made contact with the player. I think the homeplate umpire was more favorable to CBHS and the field umpire was making up for him in the field.

I think that is a two game suspension, then what ever the school does on top of that. If a high school kid got in the face of an umpire I would think administration would step in and have something to say about that!!!!
After seeing what I saw and hearing a little bit about this umpire's comments, I would hope that there would be an appeal by the administration.

Bolivar has district games against Lexington Monday and Tuesday, USJ has district games against North Side Monday and Tuesday and Gant pitched last night vs JCS, so neither team will probbaly be using their top 2 guys. Both teams hit the ball well, should be a good game. Where and what time is the game Saturday?

I think Lexington should be ashamed that this coach was suspended. He was not ejected from the game. If the basketball coach got "T"'d would he have a week suspension? The coach was just coaching baseball.

Gibson Co. defeated Lexington tonight at Gibson Co. by the score of 7-6. Lexington has been playing really well up until these last two days. I heard they lost yesterday and lost tonight as well to Gibson Co. I also know Gibson Co. beat Haywood in the first game. I'm not sure what the final was in it but I was talking to someone that left during the 4th inning and said the score was 12-1 going into the fourth in favor of Gibson Co. Good Luck to Gibson Co. and keep this up!!!

I think he pitched earlier this year vs Ripley. He is a jr.
