  1. It's going to be a challenge to continue the success Coach Floyd had there.

Don't know coach Floyd personally but I have seen him take the blame for losses when he could have laid it on the players.  He was a class act in my opinion.  More coaches should follow his actions.

  2. This has happened before in basketball. Maybe not as bad, but games have been lost to avoid playing a higher seeded team. Should baseball not allow a pitcher to walk a batter on purpose to avoid a real good batter? Infield fly rule was installed to avoid a team from gaining an advantage. In football a player or team punished for knocking down a pass on fourth down and not making the interception. Allowing a team to score to get the ball back because of time on clock. . A wrestler letting a guy escape and get one point and then taking him down for two points and repeating this over and over so the score ends up 16-8.There are ways to use the system to one's advantage in most every sport. This may have been an extreme example, but it happens all the time

Walking a batter and throwing a game seem to be different to me.  Riverdale did not try to double up on points against Smyrna either, as the your example of a wrestler did.

  3. Lost revenue is not a factor. No...I'm not kidding.

And lost revenue is not a factor to struggling schools and athletic programs in smaller counties of Tennessee?

These two coaches are a disgrace to the sport, girls athletics, and the state of Tennessee.  This is going to put a black eye on all three of the above.

Any coach or teacher that does not do more to provide a better example than this needs to look for a different line of work. JMOH.

Working on different X's and O's is one thing but this was a disgrace to not only high school girls basketball, but all high school sports.  You should know better.

  4. All this knee jerk reaction to this is stupid. There is no need to change format. There is no need to fire the coaches. Making them forfeit is punishment enough. Like I said before it's not the first time. I don't condone losing on purpose. If it is this obvious again...make them forfeit again. It is a slippery slope though.

    You are kidding, right?

And what about the lost revenue to Lawrence County and Tullahoma High Schools?

This reminds me of the talking heads on the radio today wanting to know why the players did not refuse to play this way.  Can you imagine a high school girl telling her coach she is not going along with this?

  5. It's ashamed girls have to suffer for coaches decision.

In a word, yes.  I have not read through the multiple pages of replies.  The coaches should be fired,  the athletic directors should be put on a leave of absence , the school principles, put on warning.  This is nonsense and starts at the top.  If this doesn't work, the whole process of the TSSAA should be examined.

  6. Mt. Juliet won easily with excellent defense by forcing lots of turnovers and limiting Centrals shooters from barely taking any shots. Mt. Juliet's size and experience is just too much for the rest of the district it appears. Hendersonville hung close because they shot 80% from three point range that night. My guess is that kind of performance won't happen again. I've seen potential Region and sub-state opponents in Rossview and Brentwood play and not sure that they can handle Mount Juliet's attack either. Potentially, The next meaningful game the Lady Bears will play is the Region championship against Rossview, the sub-state  against region 6 runner-up Brentwood and then into the States. it's not hard to see that scenario playing out because no one in region 6 is going to beat Dickson County either.

I agree.  Mt Juliet cruises into the state tournament but gets eliminated in short fashion at the state level.  District 9AAA is weak for sure.

  7. Right. Sally is the only player from MJMS the last 15 years. Gotcha.

Are you seriously gonna be one of those guys who says "move it to another thread?" It was a comment about the program itself then a few replies.

As far as middle school coaches job it is to get them ready for sure which is why, with the players that have gone from MJMS to MJHS, the negative comments about Rick are baffling? If folks are objective the assertion that Rick has done a poor job is laughable.

    I agree completely.

  8. Haha MJHO says it's talent but then says CCF coached them up. If you don't believe Chris gets quality players due to the youth leagues and Coach Johnson I'm not sure what to say? Coach Johnson has coached up plenty of kids these last 15 years and Chris has benefitted.

If Chris felt the kids were so poorly coached he could go visit coach Johnson and let him know certain things they needed to know before going to MJHS. To the best of my knowledge that's not happened.

Chris has done a great job but he's benefitted greatly with a steady stream of talent from Coach Johnson's teams. Based on the MJMS records the past 15 years it's really hard to dispute that.

I agree.  Coach Johnson is the one coaching them up.

  9. The Wilson County Schools policy on transfers requires the receiving school to have space available.  The last I heard was Mt. Juliet is full.

I personally believe open zones breed more animosity among the schools.  I would prefer that there not be open zones.

This is true, BUT.  Do you think Mt Juliet would not "find an opening" if a star player wants to come play there.

I think Mt Juliets days are numbered.  They will be the best team, hands down, in the district this year.  If Wilson Central can keep this coach, things will change in a few years.
