  2. Congrats to Meigs girls. Played very well and just flat out whipped us. The defense took Grace out of their game and man did they shoot it well. They are really good. As the Grace coach reminded our girls we have been here before loosing by 25 at meigs and figured out a way to win District and Region Championship that year. One game certainly does not define or make a season. Give credit where credit is due, Meigs was better than us last night.

  3. Should be a great ball game. Meigs is ranked 6th in State and Grace has played a very tough schedule so far. I am picking Grace in this one even though the atmosphere will be hostel. Grace won last year at Meigs but lost to them in the District final. Great rivalry.

  4. Should be a great ball game. Meigs is ranked 6th in State and Grace has played a very tough schedule so far. I am picking Grace in this one even though the atmosphere will be hostel. Grace won last year at Meigs but lost to them in the District final. Great rivalry.

  5. District 3A is looking really strong this year. May be the strongest District in the state in single A top to bottom. Grace, Meigs, and Harriman are looking really strong and Midway, and Tellico are not to be overlooked and Greenback is competing.

  6. It looks like GCA has gotten off to a rough start. I haven't seen anything on Harriman or Tellico. Why do you think another district would not want to meet up with any of these teams? I'm just wondering if there's something I'm not seeing with stats.

GCA has lost to 3 AAA schools Oak Ridge at Oak ridge in a close game, Farragut in overtime and Rossview in a game that went to the wire. All these AAA teams will most likely be District Champions and Rossview is picked to win that region. But with all that said a lose is a lose and they started out 0-3. Grace could have scheduled lesser teams and started out 3-0 but chose to play top competition early. I agree 3A is the top District this year and it will be a battle for the top spot.
  7. Hey I missed this thread some how???? I dont know as much about Oakdales region as I do ours so I am picking Oakdale there based on Maverick.

In our region yea It will come down to GCA and Meigs. Here is the thing guys..... Our two new freshman Gettlefinger and Ledford are as good as anyone on the team or at least comparable to what we lost. Kobe and Luke were good no doubt. Losing Kobe Kellys fire and competitive will is unmeasurable.

Arnold is getting better and better, at least I think so. He is now 6-8 1/2 and 207 lbs. but seeing how we are related and all, I'll let others comment on him lol. Gettlefinger will run the point at 6-3 and Ledford 6-3 is a two year younger and smaller version of Arnold. He is a good good young player. The football guys will be missed early but when Andrews, Wyndham, and Hensley get back we will be formidable dare I say better and more athletic. Add in senior John Holland at 6-4 and our new junior 6-5 transfer from Texas and we are for sure bigger this year.

Meigs has a great coach and talemted team. Meadows in my book is what is great about HS basketball. I love that kids effort and toughness. ZY is ZY we all know his book and they always have like 8 three point shooters on the team.....

    So I am picking it

1-GCA Armold and company get it done! Back to state

2- Meigs plays it hard and I think gets back to state. It is possible both teams could make it. I hope so anyway

3- Harriman good athletes and Johnson is back but how good will they be?

4- Tellico - scrappy and the most intense coach in the league seriously .....

5- Rockwood, Midway, Greenback, and Concord just wont be very good I fear. They will battle for the basement

Who is the 6'5 transfer from Texas?  Heard Holland decided not to play. LOL Arnold and company?  Team wins Team loses.  I still believe it will be between GCA and Meigs for 1st

  8. 1. Meigs

    2. Harriman

    3. Midway

    4. Tellico

    5. Rockwood

    6. Greenback

    7. Concord

Meigs and Harriman should be contenders for the District and maybe even further. No one wants to talk about a D2 school playing in D1. Midway has some really good talent, maybe the best 2 guard in the state, senior leadership and teamwork is the key there. Meigs, well Meigs has the BEST player in the District and the Region and maybe the State in 1A, and surrounded by seniors. Tellico lost a great guard but has returned another one and has some size this year. Should be fun and 4 of these District teams will be ranked in the state.

well like it or not Grace is in the district. You loose credibility when you throw around best in the State.  You need to get out more.

  9. I believe District 3A is a lot stronger than District 4A this year.  Here is how I see it.

    1- Grace

    2- Meigs

    3-Harriman

    4-Midway

    5-Coalfield

    6-Onieda

    7-Wartburg

    8-Tellico

    9-O.S.

    10- Oakdale

    11-Greenback

    12-Rockwood

    13-Sunbright

    14-Jellico

    15-Concord

  10. My front runner right now is Coalfield. Though they lose Layne, they return a lot of guard power along with Foster and Berry down low. They aren't too far ahead though. I didn't see Oneida or Jellico any this summer, though I imagine Oneida will be rather good. Oakdale may lose Fred Snow this year, because he took a job with the Central Office and a law in the school system states you can't work there and coach (I think).

    I have it:

    1. Coalfield- Good, balanced team. Depth is an issue

    2. Oneida- Returns size & good guards (I think)

    3. Wartburg- Good, balanced team. Still have Olivia Hamby. Melton is sneaky good in the post, don't think she was used enough last year.

    4. Oakdale- Surprise team IMO. Loses two starters, but Everett & Coffey are capable scorers. Davidson (5'8") will be returning from an injury that sidelined her most of last season. Calling it now, Kaylee Headen will be the surprise star of the team. She can PLAY

    5. OS- Looked human again in summer after 10 straight years of dominance. NEVER doubt a Michelle Christopher team though

    6. Sunbright- Has a good core, but the supporting cast will hurt. Stephens was hurt this summer, so I didn't see their whole team.

    7. Jellico- Didn't have much last year, but should be improved with this coaching staff having another year under the belt

Looks good but I think it will be a battle between Coalfield and Onieda for first place

  11. Well here we go. Its never too early to talk about Girls basketball.  This will be a very strong year in District 3A with several teams with a chance to win. Here is my prediction.

1- Grace- Four starters returning with strong senior leadership. They have size with 5'11 and 6'2 inside and possible 3A MVP at guard. Point is a freshman but really good and had a great summer against top competition at camp. All have improved this summer by playing at a high level.

2- Meigs- Great team returning from a District 3A tournament championship over Grace. Returns 3A MVP and some other really good players.  Lost only one to graduation I believe. Very good defensively and they pressure the ball really well.

3- Harriman- They return most of their team from last year. Injuries hurt them last year.  They have good size and have a really good point guard. They should contend for the District 3A title along with Grace and Meigs.

4- Midway- They return some good guards but lack size to compete for the championship. If they shoot the ball well they can give some teams trouble. Good team but 3A is loaded this year.

5- Tellico- Lost a lot to graduation. Without Harris they will struggle but you never know they have been at the top of the District for several years.

6- Greenback- Showed some promise last year but have a ways to go to compete in this strong district.

7- Rockwood- Lost players to graduation and don't have a lot of talent coming back. Have been rebuilding for they last couple of years due to some key players being injured.

8-Concord- 1st year program should stuggle

  12. Looks like Lady Rams will win District 3A. They are 10-0 in district with 2 to play. Their only losses this year have been to AAA Bearden, AAA Science Hill, Knoxville Webb in overtime and a Loss at Oliver Springs, always a tough place to win if you know what I mean. Grace should make another good run in tournament play

  13. I must admit I was surprised by the Wartburg game.  I thought Oneida played well against Grace and figured it would be between them and OS.  Its early and things could be totally different come tournament time. Last year Grace was 3rd in district at the end of the regular season.

  14. I believe 3A will shape up as follows:

    1. Grace

    2. Tellico Plaines

    3. Meigs County

    4. Harriman

    5. Midway

    6. Rockwood

    7. Greenback

Grace beat a solid much improved Oakridge team by 11 but lead by 15 most of the game. Tough loss to Bearden by 6 after being ahead by 2 with just 2 minutes remaining. Missed some free throws and had some untimely turnovers. Two great games to open with to see what they need to work on. They can play with anyone in the area.

  15. I see OS taking the top spot on the district. They obviously have the two best guards if not two best players in the district. Plus you throw in Jones at post rumor has it they have a couple good shooters in the sophomore class, and everyone is talking bright things with their freshman group. Oneida will be right there though, always well coached and seem to play well as a team. Wartburg is a coin flip each night on how they play. Coalfield will surprise some people. Sunbright seemed to play harder under new coach last year. Rumor has it Monkhouse is gone from Oakdale so there goes their best player if its true. Jellico is just Jellico we will wait and see if they improve any.

    1. OS

    2. Oneida

    3. Wartburg

    4. Coalfield

    5. Sunbright

    6. Oakdale

    7. Jellico

I agree with the top four and 5-7 is a flip of the coin. Monkhouse is no longer at Oakdale and is playing for Harriman now.
