  1. I heard Coach Finley at Stewart Co. has left to go back to west Tennessee. Anyone know if this is true?

Finley did announce that he is going back home to Gibson County. I hear that there is a good possibility that a local assistant will be named as his replacement. The young man rumored to replace him is local and was a all state player under Holiday. I am sure that he will take his

Lumps but on down the road I also think he will win. The young man loves football and he

Will not be leaving Stewart County which is a big plus. Go Rebels ! Let's see what happens.

  2. CPA beats Cheatham County 56-7. The Cubs made a great run to the playoffs late but drawing the defending state champs is a bad matchup.

Fairview beats Stratford 28-26. The Jackets win a shootout between two very evenly matched teams. I think their ability to make plays throwing the football will pose problems to the SHS defense.

White House-Heritage beats Sycamore 28-14. This will be a competitive game throughout the contest but in the end I think the Patriots size and physicality is the difference.

Camden beats East Nashville 35-21. The Lions offense has played well of late and they've found that formula that's made them so successful for over a decade.

I wish Cheatham, Camden and Fairview the best in the playoffs.
  3. Congrats to the Cubs on making the state playoffs. Coach Hatley has brought a strong level of stability back to Ashland City and the team obviously played well at the end of the season beating Harpeth and East Hickman. The Cubs are a young football team and will only get better in the future. It's good for their kids to get a taste of the playoffs.

Congratulations from the Rebels of StewartCounty. Play the game and enjoy the experience ! Good Luck !
  4. They lost games 14-7, 28-21, and 28-26. That's a shade more than 5 points per game in their margin of defeat. Coach Pullen and his staff have done a great job of keeping the kids competitive.

McEwen will be a good football program again in the near future !!!!!!!!
  5. Watching film...they have one big ugly on the line (#72). He plugs up the hole on defense, but isn't very quick and looks to be gassed by the 4th quarter. They play a 4-3 defense. They are slow to the edge, sweeps kill them. The secondary lets receivers get behind them....a lot. On offense, #6 is their play maker. He gets more than his share of passes and end sweeps. Average size...not very shifty or fast. Good hands. They run the spread/read/option with lots of trap plays. They don't have a very good punter and on kick returns, they run a lot of east to west motion instead of the yard gaining north to south motion. My two cents....I am sure Stewart County could watch film on us and pick us apart as well.

Camden should win this game fairly easy but it might be more of a contest if #25 and 7 can play. Both were injured and could not contribute much against Sycamore. I really don't see them being healthy enough but the Rebels hung with Harpeth until their injuries. # 25 is definitely the best athlete if he is healthy.
  6. Heard dat!

That Sycamore D ain't no joke. Definitely the most physical team we've played since Page. Maybe the most physical we've played period. Our boys needed that game right now and we're fortunate to get the W. Our defense keeps getting better and better.

I would have liked to have had the good fortune to witnessed the Fairview/Sycamore game sounds like it was a dandy. Congratulations !
  7. Huntingdon blows Houston County out......another overrated cross the river team that plays very few good teams. Huntingdon wins by 35

The Mustangs should win this game and probably fairly easy but I bet you will see a team that plays hard and will not quit. If the Irish get a few breaks and can hang around it might be closer than you think. It does not matter what the final score is because they are already winners in the remarkable turnaround from last season. Good luck to both teams and hope you both stay injury free.
  8. Not sure I'd rule out the Stewart County Rebels just yet. They're quietly putting together a good season and just might get on a roll. I'd like to see them get in the playoffs this year.

I would like to see the Rebels win a few more and make the playoffs but a 5 win season would be an improvement. Finley has not had a lot of

Talent but has got his team believing and playing better. A winning season is definitely needed. I appreciate the kind words and also wish Fairview much success the rest of the way.

  9. I think cody is running into some of the same issues he had at cheatham if some of the talk last off season was true. I think highly of cody but think he needs to be able to bring in the best coaches he possibly can.

I don't know what the talk has been but he has had support to get the help he has asked for. Holiday started a run with Stewart County that we wanted to build on. Unfortunately Myles had to leave and Cody Finley was hired to build on what Myles started. Of course there was Coach Taylor that won 3 games the year he was here immediately after Myles.
  10. I know the history of SC as well. There was a time when they competed for their district title. Usually when you are competing for a district title, people are concerned with you.

yes we did but it was only for a few years under Holiday. I don't think he won till about his 4th or 5th year. Finley has won playoff

Games before and given the right talent he can do it here. Someone will be the first at some point and time.

  11. Does SC scare anyone anymore? At one point, they were a team that very few wanted to play. At one point, they were ranked in the top 10 in the state. At one point, they were hosting a playoff game. At one point, they had a winning record after breaking 25 years without a winning record. Until they get back to how they use to be, they will be the old SC Rebels that teams schedule for homecoming games.

I don't think Stewart County has ever scared anybody but they did have a few good years. Finley came from Cheatham to try and win the first playoff game in the schools history. I feel that he will but if he never does then we are no worse off. All the kids that suit up are important and that is why I support them. I wore the SC uniform and so did my son . Believe me I know the history of SC Football.
  12. Rebel84, I apologize if that remark seemed disrespectful towards Stewart County or the coach. That wasn't my intention. Your football team is very rough though (so is ours) That's the point I was trying to make. No disrespect or hurt feelings intended. Just keeping it real.

I'm a fan of Finley and the town of Dover and wish them the best in the future.

no hurt feelings rest assured. I did not make the Fairview game, 1st one I have missed in 5 Years. I was just wondering if we competed at all. I plan on making the rest and hope that we can pull out a win this week. Good luck to Fairview and the Milan Bulldogs. Hope we can get our program moving up one of these days and regardless of what some say Stewart County is a great place to live.
  13. Conventional wisdom would certainly agree with you after seeing us in action this year.

Page came out and smacked us right on the noggin. Creek Wood was a give away plain and simple (no disrespect intended). Stewart County shouldn't have gotten a first down but instead scored 33 points. But here we sit 1-2 scratching our heads. I have hope left that we can turn it all around in this game though knowing full well how good Waverly is. I can see it being really ugly too. (for us)

That's why I think this game makes or breaks this season and our hopes for winning the region. Time will tell. It always does!

. Stewart County Should not have gotten a first down but scored 33 points . So we are that terrible. Granted Finley has not had a lot to work with but give the man a small amount of respect. Maybe he can compete when the middle school line makes it to high school.
