  1. Sorry I have not been on much lately but I do think MJ will be a very successful program for many years to come.

Also hope we keep Gallatin and some of the other 9AAA teams on the schedule whenever possible. Makes the games much more enjoyable when you have good size crowds on both sides and when both teams have great bands as well.

Good luck to everyone moving forward.

  2. MJ is the underdog but that is ok.

MJ does need to play its best game of the season to achieve the upset.

MJ has an offense that at times has looked unstoppable but it also has been it's own worse enemy at times with penalties, turnovers and sacks.

Defense has created a lot of turnovers but has given up entirely too many big plays.

The conversation would be different if we had managed to close out the Beech and Gallatin games when we had the lead in the 4rth quarter of both games. (of course then we would not play Oakland in round 1)

Thankful that the kids fought to the end in each game this year.

Regardless of the score or the weather there is nowhere I would rather be on a Friday night!

  3. I know this is late but hats off to the Gallatin Team for their win Friday night-Took a lot of guts going for 2 at the end for the win.

It was another game that MJ led in the 4rth quarter but let get away.

I really hope Gallatin is a game that MJ manages to keep when they move to the new district-great rivalry, great gate and great fans on both sides.

Good luck to everyone this week-especially the seniors. I know it is very tough for them when their High School Careers end but there is life after High School Football.

Hopefully they learned something along the way that will help them later in life.

  4. My Picks for the Week-

WC over Beech-WC better than record indicates

Gallatin over Station Camp-Should be a great game

Lebanon Over Portland-close game could go either way both teams need a win

MJ in an upset over Hendersonville

  5. Sorry I did not reply to this earlier but I looked over the letter when my son brought it home and my take on it was the Coach trying to motivate and encourage the players.

He reminded them that winning football games is fun, and what they had the opportunity to do.

The Letter was not degrading or derogatory.

No one in MJ is happy with the results of the last couple of weeks but it was not due to a lack of effort by the players or the coaches.

Looking forward to seeing another MJ game where they execute like they did against Station Camp-

Let the kids play and the coaches coach.

Good luck to everyone tonight-looks like we will all need our Rain Gear-Hope it is just rain I hate the lightning delays.

  6. Bears will definitely need to bring their A game and find a way to avoid turnovers and penalties. MJ has a lot of good players but no super stars this year-they need to play smart football to win at this level.

It is High School football and anything can happen on a Friday night and regardless of the outcome there is no place I would rather be than in the stands watching the kids play.

    Go Bears!

  7. I think this will be a great game-it is a key district match up and will be on Friday Night Rivals. I do not see either team winning this by more than a touchdown. I do think MJ will pull this one off since it is at home but they will have to bring their A game on offense and the defense will have to tackle better than they did last week. The one thing we cannot afford is the negative plays that have plagued us the last couple of weeks (sacks, penalties, turnovers).

  8. I think this will be a tough but winnable game for the Bears. They have got to stop the run and force Centennial to pass allowing their defensive backfield to continue to make plays and create turnovers. On Offense they have got to get the passing game on track early to set up their running game. Last week they shot themselves in the foot with penalties, sacks and fumbles.

I predict the game will be close and decided by Special Teams play. MJ has a great kicker that finally starts hitting the long FG's this week. His ability on kick-offs to drive it through the end zone will help make Centennial drive the length of the field.

Do not punt or kick the ball to #2!!!

Bears in a close one 30-28.

  9. Anyone have actual Football news to discuss??

Scrimmage date or time changes due to weather?

Kids getting looked at by colleges?

    Surprise players stepping up?

    Friday Night Rival games?

    Anything but rumor and gossip

  10. Looks like we will all get a chance to watch Wilson Central and Hendersonville in action on 22 Aug.

WUXP-30 starts its Friday Night Rivals football coverage on Aug. 22 with the Hendersonville at Wilson Central game.

The Bears are hosting Beech on OCT 3rd-any other district games being televised?

  11. For the Targeting rule- It is pre-season for the refs too and they may be calling more than normal now but it is a hard one to get right. I understand the intent but not sure about the execution especially at the HS level.

Hillsboro is very good-QB was accurate and they have a lot of size and speed.

MJ Offense still not consistent, dropped passes (including a TD pass) and have got to fix the turnovers.

Defense had a few players out but did not play as bad as the score indicated, one of the early Hillsboro TD's came on a safety tripping-

Overall MJ still has work to do in practices and the remaining scrimmage vrs Clarksville this Friday

-16 days till the Season begins-hope everyone avoids the injury bug during the last two weeks leading up to the season

  12. Any Scrimmage reports?

The MJ defense looked good against Cane Ridge and I like the new offense-they moved the ball well with some nice sustained drives but had a couple of turnovers, best news no serious injuries on either side
