Cooper will be ready to go when his number is called. We would like for him to start his reign his junior year. That means Garret does well and stays healthy his senior year. That will give Coop more time to learn this offense better. Cooper will bring more of a passing threat to this offense and a power run. He will lower his head and run over you. I know this is High School and the boys/athletes are different but in junior Tornado football and middle school, Cooper had the ability to take over a game on both sides of the ball. He was making passes as a 4th grader that the referees (who ref'd high school and college games) would come to the sidelines and say they have never seen someone his age do the things he was doing. I would call 2-3 plays in the huddle when he was in 5th and 6th grade for him to call at the line of scrimmage. He did really, really well. By the time he is a junior he should be 6'1-6'2 range .. 190-200 lbs hopefully. There are 2 other Jernigan family members (besides Cooper) coming through the works that play quarterback. His brother , Conner Hurt (future 8th grader) and cousin, Grant Jernigan (future 6th grader) On that note, UC should be in good hands Quarterback wise over the next 6 years. Of course I'm their uncle and may be a little one sided here.

Hopefully the players and coaches will work their tails off this offseason for 1 goal next year. To be perfect.

goes by amount of students enrolled moron.population of Milan-7,807 population of union city 10,895. do you think milan might compete for the 1A championship? population of entire houston co 8,426. and HC is 2A
-
No... the bulk of our team are juniors that have been together since peewee football. Like atlas said ...HARD freaking work!!!!You are right about the hard work and coaching. But it really is a coincidence
-
I think you need to do more research before making these type of comments. Clearly jealous. Grow up!!are all your football players on the union city bus route? i bet not. you pull your players from a larger population than schools without open zoning. i just would like to see things done fairly. Obion co is 4a and they stink, i bet they would be a little better if kids werent driving past their school to get to yours. SP is same. alcoa same . maryville same. you sure are big on the name calling. if TSSAA stops open zoning we never hear from union city again

There is no weather problem that is too bad to me cause there's no other place id rather be than right here with my wife and family in cookeville. We all made the trip safely
Now we rest and pray our boys play great and stay injury free. Like NCS the game will end with a 1 score difference. UC to the end!!!!

I agree that your (ncs) #50 is a good player and did well at times but that was only when he was offense. UC's #50 handled him when he was on defense. Probably 2 all staters 1 on 1. Maybe they can go at it again next year.I made the mistake of underestimating the veer, won't do it again. there is something about doing one thing and doing it well, especially when dealing with high school age kids. NCS has lots of options they tried to use too many of them and never got going. UC line fires off the ball harder than any high school line i have seen, they dont seem to be worried about proper footwork, pulling, or any complicated scheme, they just knock the guys down in front of them and everybody moves forward. i am sure it is more complicated than that but didnt look like it to me. you dont miss blocks if you always hit the first thing you see that isnt your guy. #50 (6'6" 265)was the only NCS guy that could hold his ground , the rest were caved in or blown backward. get ready SP i think history may repeat itself.

..........this is last years team. 2012Yep, This UC team has the big fullback but 2 extremely talented RBs that provide plenty of speed. Figure you could say theys a lot like the Pirates. Going to be a real feud for sure!

Although I will read the posts, im going to hold off til later in week to start sharing my thoughts. Very fortunate to have my family share this experience together with 2 kids on the team. We will have the same team back next year pretty much but nothing is guaranteed. 1 game left no matter what this year. Go UC!!!!!!

Uc#50 vs Ns#50 was a good one but overall our uc #50 contolled him from the get go. Both teams played hard but in the end it was who played with MOST heart. Always UC

Orange fuzz, its hard to believe you are a uc fan and would say we have very little chance.
-
UC fan here, think the family and I will just stay home. Appears we have very little chance tonight.

Sounds good.

Jdogg can you meet me in the morning at 9am?
-
Id offer a ride but will have full truck. Let me know. Again can meet you somewhere friday am.
-
Are you working friday?
-
The offer is there. I will leave uc friday 3pm range. Can meet you anytime before then. Think hard about it. Hate for you to miss it. Games like this arent guaranteed in the future.
-
Jdogg80 I dont know who you are but I will fill your tank up to get you there. Im #50 & #5p/10w uncle from uc.
-
I do not have the stats in front of me but guarantee UC avgs more than 160 a game rushing. If I had to say I would over 300. The fullback himself averages 160 a game probably.
-
Not sure what kind of practice facilities NC has but the weather conditions will play a role on how prepared both teams will get this week in practice. Looks good for friday night but right now its Cold, ice, and very wet here in UC. Proud uncle of a couple of players on UC team.

@cactus I expect UC to come out strong and fast. Similar to the energy of the pink jerseys. The "new"ness of the purple field has created a little of a buzz around here. ACDC will be playing loud, band will be playing, the junior tornadoes will be jumping up and down forming the tornado alley, ENERGY!!!! 1 play at a time. I think we will be fine. Looking forward to it.

I am with anyone that is for Union City and will defend them to the death. Although I prefer to be the leader and not the follower. Whatever works. I have been reading this forums for months now. Finally decided to start talking. Guess I was waiting for the important games to start. I hope I didn't jinx anything.

Thanks for the education on how all of that works. Lol. I think this years team and probably the next 2 will be record setting. Hope to get at least 1 championship. However its hard for me to compare these teams to the late 80s and especially 90-93. 3A football. A good discussion.

Playoffs in all sports bring something different out of everyone. Coaches wait til this time of year to install their best/different plays and schemes. Pray their teams are peaking. The teams that execute and adjust to their opponents new stuff will win regardless what their record or ranking is. Its football. Anything can happen. I think uc has best chance to make this happen with their talent and depth.

I'm pretty sure Coach Bowling would throw it more if he had a quarterback who can. You have to go back to his Obion county/Dyersburg days when he had Logan Parker who could throw the ball. Since then his quarterbacks have been runners. I think Garret is the one of the best he has had since then. I'm happy to say that. I think if Garret could use this offseason to beef up a little and work on his passing more, he'll do even better next year. Make history for UC. The 1 key thing Garret must work on (he knows this) is carrying out his fakes. If he would take just 2 more steps after handing the ball off, Ricky would have had many, many more yards running than he did. Because Garret runs the ball so well, defenses have to freeze til they know if he has the ball or not. With him carrying out his fakes better, all of the other backs will prosper as well. And then it will also create more passing opportunities. But it really doesn't matter if a quarterback can throw the ball if he doesn't have anyone who can catch it.
