Did no one ever teach you all in Rudderville that looks can be deceiving ?
Hey it was a very close play as that picture will attest but I'm still not
absolutely sure you can tell from that angle.
From where I was sitting I didn't even think it was going to be
close as the throw was well off line. Give the catcher a lot of credit
for making it as close as it was.
I'm told the home plate umpire said he saw distance between the glove
& uniform & you know, he had the best look of all of us. There was even
some discussion whether the catcher had the ball in her glove or her hand
& you can't tell that from the picture...even though i think it was in her
glove.
Close play & we got the call this time. Didn't get a call last year & may
not get one next year, but this is one time it went our way, either
right or wrong.
Thanks for being a fixture in our entire district & keeping all us 9-AA folks
up to date. Look forward to seeing you around next year.

Ok....there was obviously not ANY room between glove (with ball inside) and LEG of the RUNNER...The runner should have atleast slid to make it a less noticable out. You all can say that it wasnt close, or the catcher didnt have the ball, or what ever excuse you can come up with next...but the picture tells all....and it says that the girl is OUT....how can you get any other explanation from that picture???????

Why would the catcher being making a dive towards the runner if she didnt have the ball in her glove? I dont really think that was an intelligent comment...Catcher had the ball because after the play at home was over she tried to throw down to third to get that runner out...

THE SIZE OF THE ARTICLE WAS NOT RELLAY THE PROBLEM. I EXPECT NASHVILLE TEAMS TO GET A LITTLE MORE COVERAGE. HOWEVER, A SPORTSWRITER THAT FOCUSSES HIS ENTIRE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ARTICLE ON ONE CALL NEEDS HELP. THE CALL WAS NOT CONTROVERSIAL. THE UMPIRE SAID SAFE AND THAT IS ALL WE CAN GO BY. THERE IS A REASON THE TIGERETTES DID NOT LOSE IN TOURNAMENT PLAY. THEY WERE THE BEST TEAM. IF THEY DONT GET THE RUNS THEN THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND A WAY LATER. THAT IS WHAT GREAT TEAMS ALWAYS DO. IF WALKER VALLEY HAD BEEN THE BETTER TEAM THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND ANOTHER WAY. THE TENNESSEAN SPORTSWRITER SHOULD HAVE FOCUSSED ON A TEAM FULL OF SUPER PLAYERS, TIMELY HITTING, AND AN UNBELIEVABLE PITCHER.
TOO bad that call was completely wrong and everyone knew it...even the fans after the game who watched the play as the people from Marshall Co. who taped the game played it back. The ball was in the glove and everyone who was there knows it. It is sad that a people will lie about something so obvious....Walker Valley was clearly the better team...they constantly showed people that they were a true team that could fight back and work together. You think you feel all sad that your team got cheated such a ripoff article how do you think WV people felt with such a ripoff call....It would have been different if you would have beaten WV fair and square, but they didnt and everyone knows what a joke it was.. You can keep telling yourself that the ump made the decision...but who would want a state championship with a fluke call? I wouldnt.....and I am not saying that WV would have even won the second game...but you know as well as everyone else that if they had been given the chance they probably would have brought it home.. Even the Marshall Co people were saying that they would rather not play WV..
Marshall Co. has a good pitcher..but i still think WV was the better team....

Well yeah, of course i'm just mad cuz my team lost and i'm not planning on growing up any time soon!! You had to be there to realize just how embarasing that WV coach was for her team- jumping out of the dugout to reprimand a school spirited kid is really not prfessional. ANd hey, she whined first!!!

Second...you look like you are about 30....
Third...you are an embarrassment to your team...and I hope you dont sit there and make crude comments about every teams players, because you are making a fool of your self and your team....and it is not that I have a problem with CC...but if I was on their team you sure would be an embarrassment to me!

I was not at the game...and really I dont know this pitcher...I have only seen her pitch once....but the way it sounds by alot of folks on this I smell an upset brewing it is Ooltewahs defense. And I will stand by my statement if a great pitcher is on a weak team she is no longer a great pitcher. She may get good after her name or even average but never great. If you put Waters on one of the weaker Chattannooga team and I dont mean Ooltewah no one would even know her name because the newspaper would be out at Soddy with some other great pitcher.

This message board is about HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL, not summer ball. Bottom line is that Rice got her clock cleaned by Soddy. If I were one of the seven behind her I would have asked for hazard pay with all those rockets coming off the Soddy bats. When was the last time Ooltewah beat Soddy?
Personally, I could care less which team won, I am just saying if you are going to bash everyones pitching...why dont you look at the hits off of Nikki Waters in summerball...I dont think she fans everyone like she does in high school. And if she was this awesome pitcher...then why does it matter if we talk about summer ball? A complete pitcher would do well in school or summer ball... So what is the big deal? Maybe Soddy did beat Ooltewah by a big number but why do you have to call out certain people? It is a team effort..

Well lets just face it, people from Soddy think that they are the only players and parents who can play softball, everyone else is just a scrub to them. So there is no point in anyone trying to say that someone is a good pitcher/player or whatever if they dont go to Soddy... because it is automatically obvious that anyone else just doesnt have the talent. How is Waters' record and ERA in summer ball?

Some of you are killing me. Antwan, are you ever going to get over the student enrollment at Walker Valley. Honestly, how many times to you have to torment yourself over it. When the school opened 3 1/2 years ago, the number of students was under 800. People in our town didn't know if WVHS would ever grow very much because people here are so crazy about Bradley and Cleveland. Fortunately, WVHS has a wonderful principal and a great school atmosphere and the students in town started coming. You won't have to worry about it next year because they will be in 3A. Better start being creative so that you will have some excuse for next year when Notre Dame, Boyd Buchanan and Goodpasture move up to 2A. Obviously the extra students didn't help WVHS last year when they only had eleven players on the team. IF you had read TNT's post, it asked for scouting reports on 2A teams. Eleven posts were made before Walker Valley was even mentioned and even then no one was bragging. By the way, your Smith county team defeated WV during the Athens Tournament last year.
KevB1990, "Toot their own horn"????????????? Last year people were very quick to tell WV that they would get beat by East Ridge in the Region Championship game and even more people chimed in to say that they would get beat by Greenbrier in the Sectionals.
There are three high schools in the Bradley/Cleveland area. The rec league is trying but it is pretty much a joke. The only good fields in town for fastpitch games are at the three high schools. This is and always will be a basketball town. Soccer is growing at a much faster rate than fastpitch also.
Let them enjoy their moment. They were the first team in this area to make it to the State Tournament in Softball ever. They did it with 11 players and no seniors. They made it on their third year even having a team. Not too bad, no matter how many students go to school there.

Marshall Co. is a good team, and I believe they are one of the underestimated teams, just like Walker Valley. Walker Valley should be a strong team: gaining new freshmen, and not losing any seniors. Plus I hear that they have a tough schedule, including some of the state's top competitors. This should help prepare them for their road to State tournament!

Why should you remove it? Who could make you do that? That is NOT fair to people from Walker Valley...now everyone will think they are making a big deal out of nothing...and now they dont even have a picture to back it up...thats ridiclious..
