  1. I made the drive down to Lebanon to watch this game and to see the UT commit in action. Nice setting for a playoff game. Several swings in the game. NCS was their own worst enemy. That fake punt was a really bad call. Friendship coaches looked like they made all the right moves in second half. Really impressed with the quality of play at the DIIA level.

  2. For a program that has never been to a state title game, ya'll act like you're tripping over gold balls and hit a slump recently. Nobody in DII-AA is worried about GCA or Rusty Bradley. You're not playing Rockwood and the Barney Fife schools anymore.

  3. The new coach better hope GCA is prepared to bring in some athletes. If not you're never catching up with Webb and CAK, not to mention the powers from middle and west TN. The new DII-AA is no joke. It is going to be a long hard road if you keep the status quo. You ain't playing Rockwood for a region title anymore.

  4. You have to give credit to anyone that would want to coach in metro. I talked to a couple of retired coaches from the system. They said its nearly impossible to "coach" anymore. Not sure if that is the case at the Boro, I can't imagine its much different.

  5. Has the current HC been assured he will still be the HC with the new Principal coming in?  That may have a bearing on the schedule.  Hopefully the 'cupcakes' will disappear off the schedule!

Seriously...? If they have not already set the schedule they are way behind. I thought someone with all your experience could have at least known that much without asking.

  6. Go ahead a label Carter High as a Millennial Safe Zone. Everybody gets a trophy. Nobody can get their feelings hurt. Don't demand the kids work hard, show respect, are held accountable for their actions; it might make someone feel bad.

  7. Why do small ball coaches have difficulty making the jump to the 5A/6A programs?  I know there are some exceptions.

I know of several successful small ball coaches who have been successful mentioned as applicants for the bigger jobs but yet get passed over.

Other threads mention that larger school systems sometimes will not hire small school coaches.

    Is there a stigma?

    What are your thoughts?

Can you quantify this claim that "small ball coaches" have problems at the 5A and 6A classification? What is your opinion based on? Which schools, coaches, etc.?

  8. Can't get our kicker in the same camp Siegel's kicker went to as James Wilhoit has been hired by Brentwood Academy as their kicking coach and teacher. I doubt they will let him coach kids from other schools anymore.

Oh well. Maybe someone like Harrison Reed will finish College and teach it here when he finishes College.

I forgot, you should also apply to be the special teams coordinator. Obviously they need an expert in this area to get their kickers up to speed.

  9. This is my last post because you don't get it! Lebanon is not a 6A program with 40+ kids on the roster his Middle school team had 50 kids which is more than LHS so save me on that crap and I will say it one more time he has coached on the 6a level before. We will see how many kids come out when they find he did not get the job.. And kids will continue te leave and play at other schools in the county. #ItsMoreThanX'sAndO's I wish the new Coach good luck

I agree with you. Coach Jobe would have been the perfect guy to get kids in Blue Devil uniforms. Xs and Os are not near as important as players and chemistry. I'll take an executive that can lead the kids over an X and O guy. The head coach can hire the X and O guys. A losing program needs a guy the kids respect and want to play for. He is that guy. I'll also say that high school FB is high school football. 1A - 6A requires coaches that can adapt to the players they are given to work with, instill fundamentals, and discipline. Same at Westmoreland, H2O Town, etc as it is at LHS, MJHS, etc.

  10. I've seen some of you throw out the "Purple Tiger" as a candidate. He for sure is one guy that could have rallied the troops and would have surrounded himself by good coaches. The community would have came out in droves to support him. Former Blue Devils from the 80s and 90s would have turned up and their kids, cousins, etc would have turned up.

We'll see if they hire him, if they don't the new coach should reach out to him and try to make him his first hire.
