  1. Yep. Powell and DB played at DB very early in the season, and DB won a 2-1 game, if memory serves. Don't remember who pitched in that game for Powell, but I don't think it was Long.

Just watching the weather forecast. Friday night may be a moot point, anyway. Looks like the rain is going to hang around until late friday night. I realize that DB has artificial turf, but that doesn't mean they will play in rain. Saturday's forecast looks much better.

do you know when the all state team will be released?
  2. I certainly expect Long to start, with Alford coming behind him if needed. Both pitched on Monday and will be going on 4 or 5 days rest.

Despite some reports, as of a few minutes ago it hasn't yet been determined if the Powell/DB game is going to be played on Friday night or Saturday night. Powell's graduation is early Saturday morning, and it would be really tough to ask the Powell seniors to play Friday night and then make the 2 hour bus ride home from Kingsport, and bet at graduation early Saturday morning.

If Long throws and is on Powell has a great shot at it.
  3. Yep. Since it is an elimination game that is what will likely happen. Haven't seen Thomas this year, but Dalton Long has pitched well all year long, and especially over the last several weeks. His "stock" has risen drastically as of late.

sounds like a great match up, hope Long will be ready to go.
  4. A chance, yes, but there is a lot of work yet left to do.

Bottom line - they have to continue to pitch and hit like they have been, and then once tourney time comes they have to find a way to get over the "region" hurdle that has kept some really good Powell teams from advancing over the last decade.

With a senior laden team (twelve seniors on this year's Powell team, most of whom have been on the field a good bit since their freshman year) this group certainly has the experience under its belts to know what has to be done.

And I have seen a sense of urgency and confidence from this group that I haven't seen at Powell in a while. Hopefully that will pay dividends down the road.

I agree 12 seniors will help a lot. Think Long will beat Farragut tomorrow?
  5. With HVA out. Who is your early favorite to win the district?

    1. Powell - returning 7 starters and all their pitching from last year. With seniors like Owenby, Long, Weaver, and Latham this team will be hard to beat. They also have the best pitching 1-3 in the district.

    2. AC - with Tackett (auburn commit) and hicks coming back for AC they will still be a good team with pretty good depth in the pitching rotation.

    3. Clinton - a shocking team last season as they had Powell on the ropes in the district tournament, and beat a quality OR team. This team will be scrappy and compete.

    4. Oak Ridge - losing a lot from last year, I expect this team to be down this year. Kevin steen ( UT Commit) will win some ball games for this club. I just don't see them being too solid defensively or offensively.

    5. Karns - will have basically the same team as last year. Bunch of quality players but not enough pitching.

    6. Halls - coming off a disappointing season last year, I don't see halls bouncing back this year.

    7. Gibbs - the new addition to the district. I expect this team to keep games close. Not too sure what all they have.

    8. Central - They picked up a good coach this offseason. Eager to see how this team plays under him. Not very much talent, but having a good coach can help that.

    9. CC - good coach just not enough talent.

    What are y'all's rankings?
