FWIW. I have heard that they want to hire JJ, but are facing backlash from community as well as HR downtown. .   I have also heard that if they can't hire him, they will fall back to a guy that used to coach at Bearden and left prior to last season.

How could you possibly know this?

  2. Doomsday scenario for BHS. County actually does approve Jones hire...no former assistants agree to coach, but all stay on staff as teachers at BHS. There are no positions to offer and next year's football staff has ZERO coaches present in the building. The former assistants, all coaching elsewhere, have marvelous seasons. The parents, noticeably upset by the fact that no coaches are around their boys during the school day, demand a coaching change after 1 year. Process starts all over again.

Are any current HC’s in Knox county staff but non-faculty? (No teaching license) Posters here make it sound like Josh Jones and Rusty Bradley are front runners but I learned today that neither of those fellas are teachers.

I’m sure they’re good candidates, Just curious. I’m shocked this job hasn’t been filled yet.

This is the reason I have said all along that out of state or internal will be the next HC.

So you’re saying there are 5 finalist?

Guess so. I know two interviewed yesterday. 2 more were supposed to go today, but I think one was unavailable. And there are two that go tomorrow. New coach still revealed by Friday.

Bearden conducted the 2nd and final round of interviews this week, with three candidates. The committee is now debating internally with the intention of making a decision Wednesday or Thursday with an announcement on Friday.

    There are interviews tomorrow too

The booster club isn't making the hire.

Things don't work that way in Knox County any longer.

But believe what you will.  I'll continue to trust the word of those actually a part of the process.

Isn't a booster club member on the interview committee?

.....and I may have missed something but why aren't the assistant coaches running the weight program? They are still the assistant coaches until the new coach tells them they are no longer needed. Isn't that part of their coaching supplement responsibilities?

They are probably spending time getting their resumes and playbooks in order, as well as fielding interviews from other places. You know, since the forum made it clear that new coaches don't keep the "subpar" previous coaches on staff. I don't know you, or what you do for work, but imagine your boss leaves and you are told the new hire is going to let you go. How hard are you working from now until then? I suspect you likely start applying any/everywhere, and start formulating a loose plan for your future. The smart thing for this panel/committee or whatever to do would have been to name an interim coach during the search to ensure that financials, basic operations, and weight training were maintained. Yet another example of this administration muffing the punt.

  8. Most BHS Football players are going on their 5th week without working out. It sounds like this "panel" isn't going to be ready to make a hire until, at the very earliest, Monday 12/13, with school being out the 17th. These players will have gone 9 weeks without the opportunity for organized off-season workouts. You are CRAZY if you do not think this will impact next season. They will spend spring and summer just getting back what they lost sitting idle. Nick Saban himself couldn't win with soft, weak, out of shape players. "Getting it right" seems like they may be burying themselves alive just to prove they can handle a shovel. This decision should have been made already and the only ones suffering are the players.

This would be a tough sell to the community IMO

This community cares about playing time more than they do winning. If the scenario that @FHSAlum12 mentions plays out, the parents likely won't care if the new hire ensures everyone gets playing time.

When life was good!:roflol: People keep talking about this staff like Shinlever had Nick Saban's hiring ability. Who on that staff is worth our CoachT time!

If only the hiring committee read CoachT and learned what you already know. So Mr. Fox, you are in the "out of state" camp then?

They may have to with no teaching positions! Maybe the principal will get creative and make a position appear from thin air!

:D I think I know who you are... I heard there are applications in from out west, up north, and Georgia. I'm sure Shelton is a possibility. Again, internal or out of state hire...

It seems like they basically didn't have coaches though. Internal is not an option. :roflol:

The DC seems to do a decent job and the OC felt handcuffed to the old OC system. Unless admin can find a proven hire, an experienced HC with success at a program of similar size (they may have to go out of state to find that), looking internally might be the best option. This administration is not going to hire a coordinator from another school for Bearden to be their first HC gig, so you can forget any option in that category. Jeff Jones, the Central OC, all these other names will not get this job. It's either an internal hire or an experienced HC. Since people have ruled out Bradley and Cummings, then out of state is the only other option.

Are you saying the school district should have the say over a court custody ruling? Every other day and every other weekend is what the court ruled for the boy I was speaking of.

Coming from a blended family myself, if that is the court ruling I feel bad for the child. Only way custody in that fashion works without placing unwanted stress on a child is if parents live in the same city, in which case recruiting wouldn't be an issue. But, solid point about school districts not having say over court orders.
