Walks away?? That’s your opinion and I respect but I would never bet against CPA. I think with the uprise of LA them CPA boys working even harder.

I think Dilfer got out coached in Cookeville in December. Dont think that will happen again and I think with the roster additions LA has a more talented roster. I think CPA will be there but LA gets the season sweep and the Gold Ball.

  2. I think this LA schedule is brilliant. Dilfer has stepped out and up and has the most intriguing schedule in all of TN HS football IMO. What he has done is pretty amazing and they way he markets himself, therefore the program, has kids moving in from all over to be a part of it. He will get a Gold Ball this year. CPA will challenge I am certain but I think LA walks away with it this year.

This years DA team would have been a semi-final team and finished 3rd in the Middle IMO. Last years DA team would have been a 2nd round team probably and the 2018 team could have been a runner-up.

As far as USJ goes, they have plenty of talent but just not tough enough to beat DA the last 2 years. DA was just too physical for 4 quarters.

DCA is the favorite for next year in A to me. Wade is such a great coach and they have a solid group of players returning and he will add to that for sure by the time nest school year begins.

Gotta think NCS will have some athletes as well and be in the mix but it will be USJ or DCA's Gold Ball to lose IMO.

As far as DA moving up goes; not sure what is behind that decision but it is idiotic and stupid. No way they can compete in that middle region next year. The time to move up would have been this last 4 year cycle. I see a couple 49-6 games in the 2021 season for the Bears. They will have no business being on the field with LA or CPA. Dumb decision.

Saw someone post earlier about DA's non region schedule being weak. Get ready because I have heard next year's is beyond weak with a couple DII-A opponents and some horrible Metro teams on the schedule. Not sure if it has been released yet so I could be wrong but from what I have heard they will not be pushing themselves outside of their Region schedule.

TCA scored 14 pts against a team DCA scored 14 in the first two minutes and 35 in the first half. TCA pulled away late against a team that was not in the game for a second. Interesting prediction.

Just an observation. Wouldn't be surprised at any outcome on this game TBH.

NCS peaking at the right time.

Maybe but I don't think it will be nearly enough to topple DA. The most recent game you can really base any opinion off of is JCS and NCS gave up 400 yards passing in an 11 pt victory. Quinn and his QB will eat that NCS D alive IMO. May not be a 35-0 running clock like earlier in the season but I still see a fairly non-competitive fight put up by NCS.

    Exactly.

Any one know of people that have interviewed for the position or have interest in the job?

Waiting on that info from you since you have the inside track enough to know at least 1 candidate who will not get the job.

Heard today Kevin will not coach again next year.

Source? To my knowledge they are not even thru interviews yet. Would be curious to know who is so sure on the fact Coach Harper will not be coaching.

Where’s all the experts at now?

Certainly appears to be a good hire. No way anyone can convince me that others were not considered and talks had. I have it on good authority the tires were kicked on Quinn and Wade and Haywood was a strong candidate but that fell apart. No matter what, there are tons of great coaches out there and many to choose from. It looks as if GCS may just have one of those now too. Congrats and best of luck!

Big question for me which will impact how successful this can be is the assistant coach  situation. Does he get to hire any or is he required to work with what is currently on staff? I would hope he gets at least 1, preferably 2 hires to put a staff together.

Their facilities compared to other D2AA schools are way behind. They are on par with the local schools they are competing with though. This is a long term hire and early scuttlebutt is they have been working big names with no takers yet.

Sonn (great person and coach) attracts kids there and so could a football coach but it’s easier to get a stud  and place four role players around him than 1 with 10 around him.  I wish them luck. I know some guys coaches there and they are great folks plus Lynn  Deering is the Pat Summit of TN HS volleyball.

The facilities are not what other D2AA schools have and neither are the athletes. Is the goal to be .500 or to be better? I would assume it’s to be able to win in region and to donthat you have to have more athletes and better facilities. Silver didn’t make that impact all by himself. The facilities at Lipscomb are better and the money is being spent. You can’t take the “athletes” walking the hall and beat their region opponents. You have to go get them. The mentality of attracting kids the way they have in the past will keep the “right hire” from getting excited about it.

They don’t have the Jimmys and Joes to win at D2AA.

I think the right coach can get them really competitive really quickly which is something they have definitely not been. Facilities on par with FRA, CPA and I am certain they are willing and able to spend some more to make them better. That’s beside the point though. How many schools really have great facilities? That’s not a necessity.

This is about more than who they hire. It’s a mindset shift. It’s a difference in commitment.

Are they willing to make the commitment? Are they willing to go after the kids? Are they willing to spend the money to get those kids? Are they willing to open the purse strings to make the facilities enticing?

If so, are they willing to accept this is a 3-5 year window to see the fruits of those changes? They’re way behind to start and have to play catch up.

The possibility is there. Is the commitment?

I’d say GCS is in a similar situation as LA was last year when they hired Dilfer and they reaped those rewards immediately. I don't think the window is 3-5 years. GCS has great facilities and plenty of athletes walking the halls who would likely play for the right coach.

  12. How soon can we expect a hire? Hearing the realistic names bantered about. I say Rankin is a pipe dream and it will be Haywood when Quinn and Wade turn them down. If Haywood doesn't take it where do they turn? Thats what I find most intriguing Bout the whole deal.

Congrats DA ~ west folks never gave the east a chance.

Very true. I found that odd that so many picked against DA. They were the defending champs and had won the regular season meeting. Too many chalked that up to weather I suppose. DA was simply too physical for USJ in both meetings.

Will they hire a coach from D2AAA? I think that’s a possibility. Will that coach be able to compete with the other D2AA schools for kids? That will be tough.  Ingles not going anywhere, Lipscomb has made huge investments in their program, BGA has done the same, and FRA has the best campus/facilities/ and a decade start on attracting local players.

This job will be very tough to win a gold ball based on completion alone.

I think Wade is a better coach than Rodriguez at BGA and Whittemore at FRA. I have my doubts that Dilfer will remain for an extended period of time but he is setting the table for the next guy to have success for sure. I have a gut feeling GCS will botch this hire. I think they want people to think they care but they really don't. Now, if they surprise me and get Wade or another heavy hitter I will be happy to admit my hunch is way off. Why now though? Why, after 6 years of being an embarrassment of a football program, do they suddenly care enough to go after Rankin, Wade, Haywood? GCS can be a special football program once again if they make the right hire but I believe that is a big if.
