Davidson has a great play caller in Quinn. DA running back gets most of the pub but I think their QB is way underrated.  I am not sure DA has seen the type of d-line NCS has. Lawless and company really get pressure in the backfield to disrupt things.  I'm not sure about how NCS will fair. I think NCS has the better overall team but NCS coach has a tendency to get pass happy. Not sure who I would pick just yet. Either way, this is the DII-A version of BA and MBA for sure

I think NCS being the better overall team is a real stretch here. They have a great run game but no real passing game to go with it. DA has a great line and probably the best passing offense in the state to complement the great run game. NCS may have to pick their poison here and commit to trying to stop one or the other. I believe the only common games are Fayette Academy and FRA. NCS struggled with both more so than DA did.

Another Regional matchup as King's Academy travels to FC to take on the Commanders.  King's only loss has come from Greenback and FC is undefeated.  Can King's stop the OLine and rushing attack of FC?

Not a chance. TKA will fair about like DCA and MJCA have. FCS wins 35-14.

  3. Blade has to have an accurate passer to run his system. When he has had that, he has been very successful. He doesn't have that this year. Its amazing to me Indy and Blade don't have a top tier QB who wants to throw the ball 40 times a game.

Lipscomb can get it going again but success in D2 comes with a high price tag.  Head coaches, assistant coaches and facilities will cost big $$$$ if you want to attract the caliber of athletes it takes to win.  A prime example is how Father Ryan and Pope John Paul II have not been able to compete with MBA, Brentwood Academy, Ensworth, etc... in D2 because they don't have a large enough check book!

No way LA makes a change after this season IMO. They will cite playing in a new division, low SR numbers, injuries, etc. He makes it 1 more year at least. It really doesn't matter though. They can go hire Nick Saban but they just don't have any talent to compete at that level. They couldn't compete in DIIA for that matter. Unless LA is willing to invest big $$ in the program they will continue to be embarrassed. That loss to Goodpasture is really a gut punch to the program.

The lost to FRA was as bad as I have seen at Goodpasture. Even worse than the 0 and 20 run the 2 season before last. The GCS faithful don't see how this gets any better over the next few years. Thoughts???

Agreed. They have been out manned and far from competitive every game but one. The one game they got the W saw LA QB and RB leave the game injured. Team will most likely finish 1-9 this year and not sure next year looks any better. They have played 3 smaller, DII-A teams and been destroyed in each of those. The loss at DA, which is approximately 5 miles down the road, had to be especially painful.

Has anyone noticed the talent at the RB position in DII-A. MTCS, FCS, MTCS, NCS and DA backs are in the top 11 in the state in rushing. I think most of these guys are underclassmen so we will be treated to seeing these young men for another year. I have not personally seen the kids from MT, FC and MJ. I hear great things about all 5 though.

Yes and it's quite impressive. I think FCS is a 2018 and the others are 2019. What the NCS and FCS backs are able to do is really impressive considering they are not really a passing threat so teams can key on the run. Doesn't seem to matter tho as they still rack up tons of yards.

Just an observation but the underdog has some coaching issues.  Early in the 3rd going for it on 4th down on their side of the field only down 21 at that point.  Also, not kicking the FG at the end of the half when their kicker was warming up at halftime nailing 35+ yarders?  Clock management was terrible also.  Coach Davis has stated that their goal this year was to make the playoffs ... almost everyone is going to make the playoffs (6 of 8 teams).  His goal every year should be to win state.

I do think they and the other 3-6 seeds in the East will upset some squads in the West in the first couple of rounds.

The West is awful once you get past #1 & #2. NCS and DA are both very strong.

Embarrassed? Its HS football and things can happen. You haven't seen any of those games and don't know what happened. You just pop off here. Who's your team? Why won't you say? Do you honestly think I believe you've just taken a special interest in D2A with no connection? Come on kiddo, just say who it is?

Like I said the fact they can score against any of them gives them a chance. I suppose you just don't know enough about HS to understand that? No worries.

Not sure they can score vs anyone tho. They couldn't score in 2nd half vs FCS and they couldn't score when needed last night. The D is the big worry. Not sure they can stop anyone. Again, I don't have a team. I do think the Gold Ball will rest with NCS, FCS or DA this year tho. Not hating on any other teams. I have seen DCA, FCS, MJCA & DA play this year so far along with several East and West teams. I feel I can form my own opinion based on that.

  9. Not trying to be cool here. Stating what I see. That's it. Lots of folks been banging the MJCA drum this year; including me early. The TKA loss was a bad deal and FCS humiliated them so yes, it is fair and accurate to label them pretenders rather than contenders. Play on words rather than an attack on kids. :)

  10. 7 minutes ago, Playerscoach said:

As usually you think you know. I still disagree because I know they can score on all of them.  If the defense comes around they can beat any of them. Youre wrong here. BTW who's your team? You seem to know everything about every team?

I know what I see and as I have said before these are my opinions. Nothing more. I know DCA has been embarassed by FCS and MTCS now. Getting 60 hung on you by a 3rd or 4th place team leads me to have the opinion they have no prayer of competing for a championship. I bet you are in the minority seeing this glass half full like you do. Who has DCA beat? Goodpasture, Lancaster and Ezell. Come on man.

  11. 3 minutes ago, Playerscoach said:

You're kinda abrasive. Are you just young? Who's your team BTW?

How are facts abrasive? I don't really have a team. I try to make it out to see a number of different teams each year and just call it like I see it. They lost 55-14 dude! What I said is not even close to being out of line. The only people offended are prob parents of MJCA players who thought they were a lot better than they are.

  12. On 9/23/2017 at 4:12 PM, Playerscoach said:

We can disagree then. DCAs QB is the best combination of running/passing in the division and their WRs were open all night aginst FCS. Winning going away is not at all what that game was. Folks on here from FCS have said that too.

Ran on their home field?  Lol Come on man don't talk it. It's a good discussion.

I think last night told us a whole lot. 2-4 in the East is a complete toss up right now but one thing is certain; DCA, TKA, MJCA & MTCS have no chance of competing for a State Championship like I have said.

They played D2-AAA Briarcrest and JP2 also. .Most publics would not schedule them anymore. South Pitt is a quality team.

Scheduling JPII and Briarcrest was just dumb. Period. Those games get kids hurt. South Pitt is a quality opponent and a good game although GCS will get throttled by them.

  14. 2 hours ago, bigchief said:

They are not playing down. They are in AA with just over 300 students in the high school. Not sure what you  are thinking about.

Their region is CPA, BGA, FRA and Lipscomb.

Come on BigChief. Pay attention. They are playing down vs DA, FCS & DCA and getting mauled. That is what I was alluding to. See my previous comment below.

They are currently 0-3 vs DII-A teams and have been embarrassed each of those games. Combined score in those 3 L's is 20-104. That is unacceptable considering they are playing down.

Concord needs to go to 8 man football, do a co-op or drop football.Crazy with the forfeits.Don't care some old Vol ball player is Coaching there.DCA had people fly in for homecoming & tickets aren't cheap as well as drive in long distances only to find out Concord can't play because of low numbers. They have forfeited in the past too causing teams a home gate, concessions, etc. It also hurts a team because they don't have to game to stay crisp & fresh in

Well said. TSSAA should compensate DCA for their lost gate $$$. Next good decision TSSAA makes will be the first. Schools like Concord should be playing 8 man until their #'s get where they need to be.

  16. 1 hour ago, Gville said:

So true!  I agree they are looking at a 1–10 season. Because they will make the playoffs with thier win over Lipscomb. GCS offense line is less than average. However, these are the same kids that started last year. The difference is GCS had probably the fastest kid on the field for every team they played last year #6. This year is a different story lack of edge players and skilled players. And 9 new starters on the defense. This year team seem to be getting out coached it not all on the players.

I'm not gonna assess coaches on here. Not my place and not sure I'm equipped to do that in any regard. I will say GCS is a pretty bad team. They don't really do anything especially well. I see a lot of L's in their future the rest of this year and next. Who knows beyond that. They must get some players in there if they are gonna compete. They are currently 0-3 vs DII-A teams and have been embarrassed each of those games. Combined score in those 3 L's is 20-104. That is unacceptable considering they are playing down.

DCA wouldn't. They'd have to not turn it over twice inside their own 10 yard line, get healthy, catch td passes, and make tackles. You are way off base on this one.

Maybe but I don't see any scenario DCA beats DA, FCS or NCS unless crazy stuff happens. FCS lost 3 first half fumbles and still won going away. What I think is your loyalty to DCA maybe has you leaning too favorably to them. I don't mean that ugly either so no need for a bunch of ugly back and forth. Most everyone has their teams and it does affect their ability to be objective at times. DCA struggled containing Foutch and they would do the same vs DA and NCS backs who are both very dynamic. Sprinkle in the DA passing attack and DCA would be in a ton of trouble against them just like last year when they got ran on their home field. DCA has a loss to FRA as well. DA beat them by 3 scores while NCS beat them as well. Both of those were at FRA too. I think DCA is gonna have to play very well to beat MJCA and that game appears to be a toss up right now. I'm not saying they are a bad team but they are not an elite team in this division.

  18. Starting to come into focus after last night. Looks like some decent match-ups coming this week.

Tipton Rosemark vs DA. Both teams undefeated but I think DA rolls 42-14.

MTCS vs DCA and FCS vs MJCA as well. DCA and FCS should both win by 2 scores or more.

The East may be decided after this week. I look for that to be FCS, DCA, MJCA, TKA 1-4.

The West has their big showdown next week when DA travels to NCS to determine District Championship. Not sure who I like in that one yet but I am leaning towards DA. NCS ground game is fantastic but the DA offense is tough to stop with their passing ability complementing the great running game.

What's happened to GP? I think everyone believed they would have a very good season and every loss has at least been by 21 points. On top of that they haven't been competitive in any of those losses.

Nobody saw this coming so this is shocking. Too many kids in that school not to have better results. Especially against the smaller D2A teams they've played. Any insight on what's caused this?

Lots of good people their too, like Sonn and Deering. Best of luck!

GCS has had poor line play and no real playmakers. Not gonna complete very well with that mixture. They are up against very stiff competition in DII-AA and their out of District schedule has been brutal to say the least. They will go 0-3 this year vs DII-A and are solidly heading for a 1-9 season. Next year does not look to be a whole lot better either when you look at the roster. #5 has been a bright spot since he returned from injury but they need some other kids to step up or transfer in. GCS is in a lot of trouble for the foreseeable future. They do have Sonn and basketball tho.

Disagree here. I think if the usual suspects play their best game they can beat anyone in the division. There is no dominant team this year.

DA, NCS & FCS are your dominant teams. DCA, MJCA, TKA would have to play perfect and those 3 teams would have to have an off night to lose.

  21. 9 hours ago, Golden1 said:

Who do you put in contention?  Looks like FCS may be the forerunner.

I think FCS is the favorite for that Region but I would go DA, FCS & NCS (in that order) for state championship. I don't think anyone else has a legitimate shot.

  22. I had thought MJCA could be a sleeper this year and possibly one of the elite teams but that loss to TKA changed my mind. They are in that second tier group of teams in DII-A along with MTCS, TKA, DCA. None of these teams are a State Championship threat.

  23. I think this is just an observation more than anything. I find no issue at all with saying a kid had a bad game, etc. His comments were not over the top or in depth but rather a very general observation. No issues at all with this.

  24. I think DA is the favorite here but GCS could be a sleeper. I'm hearing they have a number of players eligible now that have not yet played this season. I think GCS will have to throw the ball better than they have so far to win. They will also have to contend with the dynamic RB from DA along with the potent passing game. This game should be pretty competitive and entertaining. I imagine the atmosphere and crown will be great.
