Great coach and administrator, and an even better human being. Glad to see him continuing to get statewide recognition… well-deserved!

I believe the answer to that is in the article submitted by BBB above which makes it obvious that he is not running from anyone.
Word on the other street is that E Oliver will be at 126.
Oliver is the #1 seed at 120 in the West regional tomorrow.

I've never understood the D2 divisions. How many of the 8 teams teams qualify from each region?
The East and Middle region are grouped together with 12 teams while the West region has only 7 teams. Also, the East/Middle is loaded with wrestling powers Baylor, McCallie, Father Ryan, MBA, and Brentwood Academy while the West has Christian Brothers basically all by themselves.
What is the qualifying criteria for D2? Will there be a bye again at state this year?
The current format is that the 6 D-II teams from the west wrestle for 3 spots, and the remaining D-II teams from the Middle/East wrestle for 5 spots to complete the 8-team field. Perhaps it will be changed in the future, but the problem with qualifying largely results from the significant geographical gap in wrestling programs (D-II or otherwise) between the Memphis and Nashville areas. As for the bye last year, that only came about because the #3 team out of the west last year elected not to attend the state tournament. I don't have information on exactly why that decision was made, but it was highly unusual and won't be the case this year. CBHS is 1, SBA 2, and Briarcrest 3 out of the west this year.
Update on moving the State Tournament
in Wrestling Mat

I was reading this thread to stay up on the status of all this discussion, but the thread itself seems to be spinning out of control. Aside from the issue of showers and the pageantry surrounding the state finals (the latter of which could easily be altered and improved at the ag center), I for one have really enjoyed both events being held at the ag expo center, both as a coach and a fan of TN wrestling. It's clearly not perfect, but it is well organized and set up in my opinion, runs smoothly, features a spacious floor that as we saw was able to accommodate 12 running mats, and the spread-out seating allows for fans to move pretty freely around to the area where their wrestlers are competing. I actually thought Clarksville High did a great job with the duals for a number of years, but this current venue and system in my opinion is a vast improvement on top of that. Anyways, this issue seems to be devolving into an open bashing of the TSSAA and the "cow barn", but I wanted to throw out there that not everyone in this state shares the same thoughts on the matter. Just my opinion, but I've really enjoyed having the tournaments there and I hope they continue to be improved in their current location.
