  1. Other than maybe losing to Jennings, I don't see Central Magnet losing a district game.

They have depth at pitching and a number of good hitters returning.

  2. has UH developed any power hitters in their line up?

Cannon, the Stantons, and the catcher King have all hit home runs in their high school career. Like I said this is the year if it's going to happen.

  3. If Upperman is going to make a deep run this will be the year. The team will have at least 10 seniors 8 of which will be everyday starters. Pitching depth was an issue last year but the younger arms will be a year older and the lefty transfer should help. I envision this could be like 3 years ago when both Central and Upperman made it to the state. The two teams are the last district contest for each other next year (April 30 and May 2). I imagine a lot will be riding on that series. I would dearly love for Upperman to get some payback in the series because Central has owned them the last few years.

  4. What happened last night?  I thought you all had a good chance of beating Chattanooga Christian?

It was anybody's games. Cannon gave up two earned runs. CCS gave up two earned runs.

Base running mistakes and untimely errors did the Bees in. Final 3-2.

CCS is a good team. Wednesday's game has the potential to be a good one.

  5. Word on the street is that he hyperextended it during warmups. If that is the case and he is out for a couple weeks that could hinder Upperman's pitching staff and the heart of their lineup. In previous seasons Central has put up runs against Cannon and beat him, while Lafeaver has been the arm that has given them problems. Could have been a different story this season. I am sure Central will cross Upperman's path again in the future with 6'3" Cannon on the bump. A game with him pitching has the potential to be a great game to watch.

I went back and looked at the stats. While Cannon lost to Magnet last year his line was 1 earned run on 3 hits with 11ks in 5 innings of work. I would have loved to see the matchup this year. Fluke injury right before the start of the game was a disappointment for sure.
  6. Heard that the U had a few players quit last week.  Can anyone out in Coacht land confirm this info?  If its true, where these players starters (don't need names posted on here).

3 kids quit with 1 of them pegged to be a starter. No effect tonight as Upperman beat York 5-0. Winston Cannon struck out 18 (yes 18) in the complete game effort.
  7. Since DeKalb eliminated Upperman in last year's district play and lost only two players I would have to think that they would be the favorite of the district. They will be a senior laden team and I have been impressed with the new coach there. Upperman will be a junior heavy team and they return their two district pitchers in Cannon and Lafever. I respectfully disagree that the Stanton twins are "ace" pitchers. Todd pitched some last year while Tucker did not/does not pitch. The Guffey kid would probably be considered the #3 pitcher. The mystery to me is how much does Central Magnet reload. Lost a ton of talent/pitching. Return two all staters. The replacements will determine their competitiveness.

    My order-

    DeKalb

    Upperman

    Central Magnet

  8. 1. Central Magnet - Lost a ton of seniors but kept a couple of all-state players. It will really come down to the quality of replacement players for them. Add a new coach in the mix and they are a question mark.

    2. DeKalb - Return I think all but two starters with the bulk of the team now seniors. One of the two starters lost was a district pitcher so will be interesting to see how he is replaced.

    3. Upperman - Return all but two starters but will be a junior heavy team. Both district pitchers return in Lafever and Cannon.

I think Dekalb and Upperman will end at the top unless Central reloads at a high level the players lost to graduation.

  9. I agree with you, and if UH is cool with being 2nd or 3rd in the district year in and year out, by all means don't change a thing. How is UH going be next season in bball?

Upperman got a good win tonight at Cannon County. To answer your question we will go from a senior laden team to a junior laden team next year. Next year we will only have two seniors both of whom are bit players this year. It will be a painful year probably for the Bees.

  10. Bobby McWilliams does a great job at Upperman. There is a lot of hate towards him from other teams, and yes, he might bring it on himself with the way he is so competitive. However, he does a great job.

On a side note, I do enjoy watching his son Tyler play. I do believe, and this is no offense to anyone else, that he is the glue that keeps that team together. If he weren't on the floor, I don't think this team is nearly as competitive. Great player...the Truth.

Bobby McWilliams does a very average job at Upperman. His son Tyler is a great three point threat but Upperman has a few of those. Glue? More like an important piece on offense but no more so than the rest of the starters. Tyler does have more technicals than any other player. The rub comes from how he treats his sons (and how his sons can talk back to him) in games. The minutes he gives his freshman son in varsity playing time is strictly a daddy act. The players know its a rigged setup......the real Truth.
