  1. Who are some of the best high school radio announcers ya'll have heard?

Two of the best in the bizz are Dave McCulley and Stan Gerard who call all of the TCA games in West TN on Hippie Radio 105.3.  Dave's play by play is top notch and Stan is awesome with his color commentary.

  2. Did turn out to be an easy win. GC jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. Kept pipkin in check for 3 quarters. She had 27( 16 in the 4th when game was basically over). But I disagree about Chester not being an above average team. They have been playing some good ball lately. They are not great. But they are solid. This looked like the GC team that could make a run

Agree about GC.  The only thing that can stop GC is #3 or #4 getting in foul trouble. Probably more #3 than #4.  Most teams have players that can slow #3, but noone I have seen has been able to stop #4 when she wants to go.

  3. No GC was probably 25-30 points better than Chester County today. Wilkens got a cheap cheap tech and Erin Lannom sat out most of the 2nd Half because of a bozo official that couldn't stand that GC was wearing them out. Officiating was terrible in this game. GC looked like they were on black top and Chester County was in sand. A total mismatch.

Pioneer, you are better than that.  I saw the game and the officiating was fine.  It was in no way swayed in favor of either team.  I have seen several games of GC's and the fans seem to believe that every player walks, fouls or pushes off on every play while GC never fouls or travels.  GC is great but if you watch the guards when they try to draw charges, 90% of the time they fall before there is ever contact.  Officials see the same thing an it can come back to haunt you on what should be a legitimate charge.  And in GC's defense one of Lannom's blocking fouls was probably a charge.

  4. Single A - Chelsea Perry from Middleton or Taylor Lamb from South Greene

Double A - Marosite from Elizabethton

Triple A - Crystal Dangerfield should win. Anastasia Hayes from Riverdale and Miyah Barnes from Memphis Central should be the other two.

D.2-A - Anna Jones from Univ. School of Jackson

D.2-AA - Bria Dial from Brentwood Academy or Taylor Barnes fromSt. Benedict

This is probably 80% right!  I would say 100% but there is always a surprise or two.

  5. No, I don't think so. Lady Lions are a year away (at best), Riverside lost too much, Adamsville has yet to play up to their potential (which could be very good), and the Jackson schools just don't have the horses.

If their shots fall, the  Lady Cardinals probably have more of the individual ingredients needed to play with Middleton than the other 15A teams, but their outside shooting hasn't been good enough...yet.

Riverside has surprised me a little through the first half of district play.  I thought they would have more than the the one loss to Middleton.  Second thru fifth place are still up for grabs. You want to be in second or third at the end to avoid getting pummeled by Middleton until the finals.

  6. I'm confident that you will get your answer from someone who has ties to Chester County basketball. I hate to say it, but I don't believe there is a lot of Chester County basketball fans on CoachT, so maybe you won't get the answer that you are looking for. Chester County boys are not a very good team. Sitting at 3-14 and has failed to win a district game as of yet, maybe this "incident" put the icing on the cake. I do expect Coach Lambert to get a job if a coaching position comes available in the area.

I will take it a step further.  There are no Chester County boys fans on Coach T.

  7. Both are good players, but I have to disagree. The two games I have seen it has been Craig's all around play that puts USJ over the edge. His IQ for the game seems very high and he does all the intangibles. Hughes looked better tonight against JCS than he did when I saw him against Obion Co. He just doesn't seem tough enough or do enough for me as a D1 signee. Dont get me wrong he can play, no doubt. Hes as athletic as they come and I have seen his AAU highlights. Again all this is my opinion. Hope i don't get ridiculed again

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion and I agree with you about Craig.  He is solid.  In review, you got ridiculed because you titled threads with Girls and boys names then proceeded to say how overrated they were.  That is slightly over the top since they read these boards on occasion.

  8. Good win for the Lions last night. In advance I am a fan no expert on basketball. So watching the boys last night against Jackson Christian it is obvious the Lions have the talent to make a deep run in the state. But IMO the boys are not mentally there. They are not putting teams away when they have the chance. They are haveing mental lapses on defense and ball control. Also seems to be at crucial times some players are looking to just score to pad their stats rather than pulling the ball out and setting up a play. These are all correctable. Friday night will be the perfect game to put it all together. IMO I believe the boys will come together and play a complete team game and will defeat Middleton. Good luck Lions

You may not be an expert on basketball, BigEd, but you pretty well nailed it in your comment. I think they can get Middleton at home but am worried about District 16 teams in the Region tournament.

  9. Question i have for fans of TCA and USJ. Are Anna Jones and Brynne Lytle D1 kids??? Or perfect fits for Union and Freed??? I seen both play, and i think in the right situation(UT Martin, Lipscomb, Florida Gulf Coast) teams who rely heavily on the 3 pointer they can contribute. Opinions????

IMO, Anna will be a solid player at a mid major D1 school and Brynne, due to her size, will be the same at a D2 school.

  10.

Tri-County Seven Wrap-up for this week.

    1. Elizabethton (8-0) - Early competition was weak, but now have solid wins over Daniel Boone, Knox Webb, CAK, Gate City and Greeneville.  Play in the Doc Maples in Bristol next week and in the Carolina Invitational in Charleston the week after Christmas.
    2. Hampton (7-6) - Have beaten Happy Valley, Unaka, Johnson County, Unicoi, and Chuckey-Doak.  Have quality losses to South Greene, Greeneville, and Gate City.
    3. Happy Valley (7-3) - Beat Cloudland and has split with Unaka. Playing in the Heritage Christmas Tournament this weekend.
    4. Unaka (7-4) – Split with Happy Valley winning the most recent matchup.  Have an impressive win over Chuckey-Doak.
    5. Unicoi County (4-9) - Have played a fairly tough schedule so far, but have dropped four in a row.
    6. Cloudland (5-5) - Beat Johnson County, but lost to Happy Valley and Unicoi.
    7. Johnson County (2-10) – The Lady Longhorns have lost nine straight.

Betsy retains the top spot and Johnson County is still at the bottom. The Lady Cyclones are arguably the top team in Region 1. Hampton has lost some games, but has probably played the toughest schedule of anyone in the group.  Happy Valley and Unaka are tied for the third spot this week since they have split and have similar overall records.  Unicoi seemingly has fallen off some over the past couple of years.  Cloudland may be a year or two away.  Johnson County is clearly rebuilding.  Please reply with your comments, recommendations, and/or criticisms.

    +1

    Trader,

What happened to you guys at home vs Chester?  You guys must have shot the ball like a lot of teams do when they come into your home gym.

  12. High school basketball takes center stage tonight in Jackson, TN as Trinity Christian hosts USJ.  There is no love lost between these two fierce rivals and a standing room only crowd is expected tonight at "The T Dome".  If you can't make the game, join Stan Gerard and Dave McCulley as they have the call of the game on Hippie Radio 105.3 in Jackson.  You can also listen online at http://www.hippieradio1053.com. The Countdown To Tip Off Pregame Show begins at 5:45pm central time and the girls game will tip at 6pm followed by the boys game.

As always, I hope you enjoy our broadcast.

Great broadcast!  Wish we would have come out with a couple of wins but we have another opportunity in a couple of weeks.

  13. We are getting better. Don't let the 4-7 record fool you. We dealt with the same thing two years ago when our Football team made it to the semis and we started slow in basketball. We started out 2-9 and ended up winning the district and making it to region semis losing to state runner up Booker T. I like our progress so far. We are not consistent right now but we are improving. Keep your head up boys! Big game against Lexington on Monday!

Totally agree!  I think they win all their games leading up to the second Middleton game at home. That could go either way. They start a winning streak off with a win tomorrow night against Lexington!
