  1. #23 for OR slow...I don't think so, #8 for OR slow...I don't think so. #11 for OR slow...I don't think so.........maybe not burners, but not slow!

Overall team speed was incredibly slow compared to most OR opponents. I'm sure every team in the district with exception to maybe Halls can post three individuals that can run with the three you just mentioned.

  2. LEONARD SCOTT...LEONARD SCOTT...LEONARD SCOTT!!!!!!!  Thanks for telling me that OR isn't in the SEC...I didn't know that. What I do know is this....Anderson County had a back that went the distance against us...and so did Farragut!!!!

That's not because their back had breakaway speed...it was because the entire team they were playing against was SLOW!!

  3. Apparently I'm not. That's quite a statement you made and I would love to know your answer.

Not sure why it's quite a statement. Different coaches have different styles. Lots of coaches are successful lots of different ways. The style of football Maryville uses to win is not the same style of football that OR uses to win. Not that hard to understand.

  4. Not saying that.  I will say that a majority of schools don't have a "strength coach." They have the low man on the coaching ladder looking something up on the internet.  You can't get faster unless you learn how to run fast first, then add the muscle and then real running/competition.

I can agree with that. Football strength and conditioning has changed dramatically within the last 15 years.

  5. Ok, let's just agree do disagree about amazing array of Track athletes who came through just UT and did both.  You would have to know something about both sports for this to be a level playing field.

At OR the lifting program for football is good. Traditional get bigger stuff is fine. It is not speed focused.  (again, you would have to know something about this to comment with any legitimacy)

A speed focused program would have include "get faster" mechanics, technique and of course competition.  The only way to really do that in High School is track.

So you are saying football players can't get faster without running track? I bet there are a number of high school strength coaches who disagree with you.

  6. Guys. Answer me this question? How many RB's did Maryville have last year that had "breakaway" speed. Or the year before or the year before etc etc? How many players on their teams have "eye opening" speed, period??? None. They have been doing pretty good lately. A team can be great without breakaway speed in HS.

I agree with you. Problem is that it takes a certain style of football to win that way. You won't be seeing that style with the current head coach.

  7. Don't get me wrong about our overall speed. It's better than adequate but all of you out there talking about a state title you better think again. we aren't as fast as the great teams we will have to beat to get there and speed IMO is the most critical element on a football team. Three yards and a cloud of dust may be the answer but those teams don't win many titles these days.

5 wide and throw 40+ times per game??

  8. Are you telling me that deficiencies with your favorite teams are things that you DON'T worry about? Then we are totally different and I make no apologies. I worry about my favorite high school team (the areas where they are weak), I worry about my favorite college team (the areas where they are weak), and I worry about my favorite pro team (the areas where they are weak). I sure as heck don't look at them and say..."well, they are weak at LB but we got what we got so I won't give it another thought". If that's the way you think then we are totally different types of fans.

Maybe without breakaway speed the coaches need to rely on great defense and switch to a 3 yards and a cloud of dust style offense.

  9. I agree with "we got what we got" but lack of speed is a real issue. I heard on the news this morning a reminder of what Butch Jones said last year after the Auburn game...SPEED DIFFERENTIAL. We can't recruit and we've got what we got but lack of speed at the running back or QB position is a critical issue.

What is your best plan to fix said issue? Seems like if we got what we got we don't got a chance of getting what we don't got.

  10. Did he design the sweatshirt? I don't know but I doubt he did? Is he the only one who wears such a sweatshirt? I doubt it. I LIKE THE SWEATSHIRT no matter who has it on, but he's the only guy I've seen wearing one. What I like about the shirt is what it has on it, which is nothing about him.

It must be a magical sweatshirt...on a magical man.

  11. Your definition of "follows' is different from mine. LOL. I saw him at the last three home basketball games and at Kingsport  (I wasn't following him but he just happened to walk by) and I heard him speak to the city council. Being the head football coach at ORHS makes him easy to identify. What I do have a crush on is the sweatshirt he wore to the basketball game. I went to that place in Jackson Square that somebody told me about but they just had shirts like that, not sweatshirts.

Great...now you want to dress like him, too.  What's next?

  12. Any head coach would prefer to have the bleachers replaced at Blankenship field. It's MARCH so his efforts won't cost us any games. By the way, I saw Gaddis at the game last night at D-B and I doubt he was there preparing for Farragut, AC, or CC, so I guess the guy just doesn't care about football. How dare he show support for other teams at ORHS! How dare he care about Blankenship field! I can't believe this community wanted him back.

You sure do see him in a lot of places.
