  1. i participate on both sides of the arguement. I am a high school boys coach, so i dont do any scholastic refereeing.  I am part of an association, so i mostly do aau and rec league stuff.  I attend the trainings and everything so im able to maintain my certifications.  With that being said i can also agree with the fact that the refereeing hasnt been up to par in more cases than not.  As an official i hold them to a higher level and expect more.  No more than would be expected of myself however.  The shortage has really hindered the quality.  The money is good, when youre getting sufficient work.  The problem in my area stems from the assigners.  They tend to schedule the same people regularly.  Some get 3-4 games a week, where others get 3-4 a month, if that.  It becomes more of a waste of time if your not getting the work.  So people chose not to do it anymore.  At the end of the day there are good refs with good intentions, but on the other hand there are bad refs.  i have seen a lot more bad refs of late

  2. District 9A goes 3-1 with Community pulling the upset over Clarksville Academy. MTCS and Community square off for the 4th time this season at 6 on Tuesday. Lead and Huntland play at 7:30. Still like MTCS and Lead in the final, but Lead better not overlook Huntland. MTCS will definitely not look past Community.

i think LEAD and MTCS are on a collision course to the finals.  Both teams looked equally impressive in regional 1st round wins.  Barring any upsets we should get a rematch of last years regional 1st round matchup, in which MTCS took the win 64-72.  Both teams are a year older and playing some great basketball.  Lets hope both teams handle their business on tuesday night and set us up for a great night of basketball on thursday for the regional championship

  4. lead continues their winning ways.  jumped out to a 10 point lead early on clarksville academy.  Clarksville fought back taking a 10 point lead late in the third behind shart shooting of Austin Fisher.  Lead hit a three to tie the game at 52 at the start of the 4th and never looked back.  The loss all but elimitates CA from claiming the regular season title as lead now has a 2 game lead over clarksville academy and own the tie-breaker having be CA twice.  With up coming games against Nashville Christian, Jo Byrns, and Kipp Academy this week, lead looks to take a strangle hold on the number one seed going into the district tourney.  With wins this week that would push their record to 10-0 in the district with games left against houston county (whom they beat by 35 at houston county) and east robertson (whom they beat by 27 tuesday).  Lead played a difficulty out of district schedule and it appears the strategy has prepare them for one a play.  Things are lining up for the panthers to make a run to murfreesboro, but stranger things have happened

  5. Is Lead good enough to advance to state?

They have a really good shot at making a run to state.  They have multiple weapons on offense, and extremely quick on defense.  They've had to deal with a few injuries to starters to begin the season, but everyone is starting to get healthy.  They go about 9-10 deep.  5 out of their top 6 have had 20+ point games

  6. It's hard to give Clarksville academy props based off a soft schedule. Outside of a 1pt win against east robertson they haven't played nor beat a team with a winning record. Not to mention a blow out loss to a bad Stewart county team and a blow out loss to lead academy at home. Easy to build wins and stat stuff against cream puffs but will that make you better come tourney time

  7. How good is Lead compared to the rest of league?

lost jackson to graduation, but are a much better team this year than last.  Larry beddingfield is the leading returning scorer but got hurt in preseason.  Has played in three games this year, scoring (21, 24, and 30).  They are deep and can have 4-6 kids lead them in scoring on any given night.  Currently 5-0 in district play and closest game was 18 pt win vs then undefeated Clarksville academy. Game could have been a lot worse but shot poorly from free throw line and played jv majority of 4th. Will really get to see how good they are as they have east rob, nashville christian and clarksville academy again in the next couple weeks.

  8. ive seen every player on this list from a coaching and refereeing standpoint.  Garland is the most impactful of all.  Campbell is good but not to Garlands level. Harmon will be great, lacks humility.  Key overated.  Lawson benefits from the talent around him.  No knock to his talent but they make life easy for him.  Barford a great talent but not to the level of the other names mentioned on this list.  Garland has the ability to control the game with his scoring as well as his playmaking.  Prototypical point guard.  The knock is his size but his bigger than campbell and harmon.  Recent growth spurt has him close to 6'2.  When its all said and done Garland has the highest ceiling of all and will be the name you hear for several years to come

    imo

    Braxton Key - nope

Jaylen Barford - not even close

Tyger Campbell-  older than garland. 17 y.o. sophomore. Exciting player but i dont see him being to garland's level next year (which should really be this year)

Chandler Lawson- good but does not impact his team as much as garland does. Garland has beat east twice (yes i know it was the summer) and has been the reason BA is going for 3 in a row (give cbhs some credit for choking too). And East couldve won last year without Lawson and dont get started on the lack of agility

Zion Harmon - too early to say. I know guys in memphis that were top 25 between 8th and 9th grade years but are not ranked due to everyone else growing getting more athletic and developing.

Some of these guys may be flashier but as far as ceiling in their position I can't see it. It's pretty hard to be a below the rim PG and be ranked #1 (yes it's still early i know) in the era of the dennis smiths, cole anthonys, trevon duval etc who are highflyers, The players you mentioned were good players but none have been as elite as garland comparing whatever point of their game they're at right now. And let's not sit here and act like Duke isn't the most heralded offer of them all.
