  1. Why do you think that D2 schools would need the TSSSAA? Someone mentioned earlier that if the D2 schools form their own association, then they are creating their own rules and establishing their own guidelines (scary huh). Does the Big 5 (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12 and SEC) truly need the NCAA? These associations are set up to establish guidlines and rules to '"even the playing field" I'm starting to believe what another person said months ago, everyone wants a title and when they don't get it blame someone. I do believe that a select few schools are cheating both private and public. You can't make everyone happy. Once the split happens (and I believe it will) the witch hunt will be on for the "nonboundry' schools and magnets. Case in point, Indian suggested: the TSSAA move open zoned schools up a class, add multipliers on public schools, its never going to end. I'm glad my coaches and parents taught me to embrace competition and not run from it. Might as well give everyone a title and a trophy.

Who do you think is cheating?

  2. Its not the players its the system. Until someone is able to install a system like Maryville has and keep it running on all cylinders for as long as Maryville has things will remain the same. It just blows my mind that nobody can duplicate what they do because its so simple. I guess dedication is a thing of the past everywhere but good 'ole Maryville.

    This post is so wrong.

  3. The eekeed out 4/3 win agaiinst Ravenwood and a 9/2 win over Wilson Central

Currently they have 3 real candidates at qb  with Miller Armstrong, Conor Mitchell and a Sophomore transfer from Stewarts Creek

The O line has gotten better every week, and one of the hires they made was the o-line coach from Oakland and the d-back/receiver coach from Oakland as well

    Thank you.

Ravenwood sounds like they'll be solid again; Hester has done a great job. Is Wilson Central awful?

Armstrong was the back up last year, iirc? I think he'll be fine. Obviously nothing like Jennings, but he's a once in every 10-15 years player.

And that's good to hear. Is the name Oliver? And Watson obviously will make that unit better.

  4. Love seeing the love for the Govs! If they keep up the hard work that might not be outside the realm of possibility.

Shad will win 6-7 games a year there regularly and have 8-9 win teams, too.

That man is the real deal. He proved it to me when he won at MTCS.

I think he gets it turned around immediately. Good to hear WB's scrimmage against Cleveland went the Govs way.

By the way, somewhat off-topic for this post, the fullback #45 on Oakland, Hurd I believe, is a beast. He'll shine in Coach Creasy's Wing-T.

  5. Riverdale will be the team to beat, they are returning a lot of experience. Oakland lost a lot and will be rebuilding, possibly reloading. Not sure what Smyrna has coming back so don't know about them. Blackman is returning the majority of defense, but will have to replace the majority of the offense. They do have young talent that could make some noise. I see those as the top four in no particular order.

Fair enough about R'dale being the team to beat. I just don't know what they lost or what's returning, but just my opinion of course. Oakland will be good enough to beat everyone in the district if they have luck. Their middle school feeds them athletes every year and usually wins or plays the Middle School Championship.

  6. How do you guys think Cookeville will do?

I think they'll struggle with the Murfreesboro teams (Oakland, Riverdale, Blackman & Siegel) and Smyrna because of the speed those schools have, but they should be able to win atleast one of those games a year while beating Warren and Coffee consistently.

    Right now my region prediction:

    1. Oakland

    2. Riverdale

    3. Smyrna

    4. Blackman

    5. Siegel

    6. Cookeville

    7. Coffee County

    8. Warren County

Teams 3-6 can all be switched around.

I think the Region will be down some this year.

  7. I don't think one can assume discipline would be the same. No coach was going to cross McDanuel, even if they disagreed with the punishment or lack thereof.

Yes, Oakland ran the same defense that Rankin does, but of course White is going to run it given that he played and coached for Rankin. First 4 years, McDaniel called the offense,so not much time to focus on defense.

The wrong hire could set Oakland back but making sure Oakland retains its current staff should be a higher priority. Oakland will get Its share of high level applicants, both locally and out of state

The last part of your post is the reason why they don't need to hire White.

Too many great coaching options available to settle for less.

  8. I respect your opinion, but most of accusations are way off base. Oakland's strength is the quality of their coaching staff and if White is hired, that remains intact.

Under McDaniel, discipline wasn't necessary lacking, but there was a lack of consistency. I think White would rein that in.

The most McDaniel was involved with the defense was the coaching of the secondary. The defense is and always has been White's baby since day one. He doesn't get enough credit for doing all the little things that made McDaniel's life much easier.

Oakland might be better off going outside the program, but not many schools are fortunate enough to have an internal candidate like Kris White. The kids love him and he has the trust of the other coaches. As a Oakland alum, that's good enough for me

I'm not sure the discipline would be fixed, because if it was going on under White's watch as a coordinator, it would continue as a head coach.

While he may have done the little things well, McDaniel ran the show on defense from what I saw. Now of course I've never been in a staff meeting with the Oakland coaches, so I don't know if White ran the show behind closed doors, but it's Gary Rankin's defense. McDaniel brought that defense with him to Oakland. The times I've watched him coach, whether it be at 7v7 camps, scrimmages, practices, or games, he's focused in on the defense. He lets the Offensive coordinator run the show on offense (which I believe screwed Tommy because went to the shotgun after going 12-1 the year before in the I form) and seems more like a manager.

This hire could set Oakland back for years if they get it wrong. Agreed?

  9. Kris White is no where near the coach Tommy was. He will run that program into the ground if Spurlock let's him. Oakland will be the most undisciplined team in the county if White is hired.

Tommy ran that defense and just gave Coach White the title because he didn't need it. Oakland needs to go out of the program to find their man.

Spurlock, don't kill your program with this hire.
