  1. I label myself as a realist rather than a homer, so here's my take.

I honestly didn't think Gordonsville would win last night. Studying schedules and watching Gordonsville's inconsistency this year, I predicted the Tigers wouldn't be able to handle Whitwell. So figured it would be a 2nd round exit. However, seeing how close Prep kept that game with Whitwell, I was concerned that last night may be an early exit. Most knew this years team would be completely different from last year losing that senior class, but still optimistic there would be enough talent remaining to build on. There may be some, but this team just never seemed to get better all year. Mistakes every game, all game long. Never could put my finger on it. Not sure if players really bought in, or maybe some are playing positions  they aren't comfortable in, or could be a disconnect with coaching, but this bunch just never seemed to gel.

To beat Whitwell, Gordonsville may have to be close to perfect, and they haven't proved they can come close to doing that this year.

Now I'm starting to think like a Vols fan, "maybe next year."

They are better on the field and better at bragging about it.

I honestly think it's more excitement about what we "think" this team can do, rather than bragging. This bunch of Juniors won the jr. high state championship's in 7th and 8th grade. So, the expectations have been high moreso for fans. We have waited the last couple years with anticipation to see if past winning by these young men translates to this year and next. At least that's where I see it from the cheap seats.

I do try and catch you boys on a stream when my bunch ain’t playing.  Tell our radio crew their buddy from up in the frigid tundra says treat you boys good or they’ll have an unhappy old man!

Also tell Dickerson take it easy Friday night  and an old friend way up in NY says hello. He’ll know or least he better!

I sure didn't know who main street was until this post,  but I do now. I'm glad you found your way here so you can vent some way other than Facebook.

  4. I think this will be the game where Gordonsville's inconsistencies and self-implosion errors bite them in the rear. There's no doubt they're big, fast, and strong compared to most 1A teams, but bone-headed penalties, erratic snaps, and mental errors will be even more glaring against a good team. They have more personal foul and snap problems that kill drives than any team I've seen in a long, long time. So much so, every coach should be bald from pulling their hair out. Usually these things are attributed to coaching issues, but these young men have to share in that responsibility having played together for years and still can't figure out how to clean it up, and be a well- oiled machine. I'd argue if they played mistake free, they can beat anyone, but I've never seen that they can... The shine could wear off next Friday and the back half of the season is definitely tougher than the first half.

  5. Your exactly right. As long as everyone takes care of business tomorrow night.

Yep. I will say this about Collierville, on the surface looking at their record, it would seem Central wouldn't have a lot to worry about, however Collierville had to forfeit 2 wins so in essence they're a 5-5 team coming out of the wild West. All I know is I'm glad the playoffs are here, I hope the coaches have prepared accordingly, and I hope we win and move on.
  6. I'll state the obvious because I've never really been much for smack talk, but consider myself more of a realist. Of the 16 6A teams (middle playing west) there are legitimately 5 teams who could represent at the state championship; Whitehaven, Cordova, Franklin, Mt. Juliet, and Wilson Central.

That being said, when any of these teams meet, it will be some good foosball. i.e. Central at Cordova; the winner of that at Mt. Juliet; the winner of that at Whitehaven. I think after tomorrow night it's going to be a fun ride with some good football all the way through Cookeville...

  7. One game at a time Cordova......

I know that wasn't last years mantra for them. I remember it clearly over the top of the radio broadcast team you heard the Cordova coach in the press box yell out, "Why did we overlook this team!" That's why I said Wilson Central wouldn't sneak up on them this year because of last...

  8. There's no way of knowing if Cordova is better than Central or not. I do know after last year that Cordova will not overlook Central, assuming both teams advance, and will most likely be looking for revenge. However, I'd love to see Central vs Mt Juliet one more time this season. Mt. Juliet will coast through rounds 1 and 2, but Central a second time around would be worth the price of admission!

  9. Doesn't Medley still serve some role with helping the football development in Lebanon?

To my understanding he has had no part of Lebanon football in any capacity in years. He has been at Gordonsville since he left Lebanon, and was "part" of their 2012 championship team.
  10. The line is MTCS by 3. Should be a tight game. I hope the Gordonsville defense wears them down. You know it was not too long ago that the Tigers had to shut down a team that was qb driven and they pounded A.J. Long until he didn't want anymore, sending the Tigers to victory. Different teams, different times, but they do have a formula for success if the players can pull it off.
