Good assessment. SOB has the Defense playing well. It will take our best game up front, on both sides of the ball, to get the W. And I take no offense to your comment about the rivalry. I wouldn’t pull for the CAK Scholar Bowl team if they were up against the North Koreans, no offense of course.

If that’s not your best post ever, it’s in the top 5! It should be a great game. Go Rams!

Been hard on this ole man to get into this with JR graduated. Friday helps a bunch! It’s funny Pride said that about the pool. As Momma Raizem n I were walking in, I just started laughing out loud with visions of ole Boog’s pool party on here. She thought I was nuts...she’s probably right.

GCA left 14 pts minimum off the board. I would’ve been happy with a 1 pt win, but this score is very deceiving. Webb played tough, but GCA shot ourselves in the foot several times, especially in the red zone. The GCA defense is real. Happy for those guys. On to CCS. Proud of the Rams.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes AND yes!!! Been a long time since we’ve seen a D swarm to the ball at all three levels. Props to the Webb QB....tough as nails, obviously. Hope he’s ready to go next week.

Definitely had some head scratcher plays that can’t happen going forward if we want to stay in the win column. We for sure can’t leave that many points on the board in the first half and then come out flat in the 3rd quarter again.

But, who’s complaining? Second biggest win over Webb in school history and first ever “W” v football Sparty.....YESSSSSS!!!!!! Go Rams!

Thanks Bread for the insight.  Sounds like it was an "itchy" trigger finger on the technicals.  I'm glad the calls didn't really impact the game score wise, but may have cost some playing time for outgoing seniors which is bad.  On to baseball and before I forget....  Go Vols!

Go Vols? THAT.....WE CAN AGREE ON!!!! They've got some work to do to finish strong for a 1-seed. Its crucial this year, IMO. Fun to see a program and team doing things the right way and being rewarded for it. GO VOLS!!!!

I watched the game on TV and was disgusted by the officiating.

You would think that a state championship game would include an officiating crew that was also considered very good (at least) at what they do. The female official was awful and the other two were not very good either.

The play that really bothered me was the last play of the 1st half (still about a 10 point game) ... TRA had just hit a shot and Webb was on a fast break trying to get a last second shot off ... the TRA player aggressively blocked the driving layup and came down pretty hard on the Webb player. A foul was immediately called, followed by a technical about 2 seconds later - even though the TRA player was walking away from the play and didn't appear to say anything to anybody (it was an obvious foul). They showed the replay and again, he didn't appear to say anything.

Make no mistake ... Webb was going to win the game ... big ... but the officiating was an embarrassment to the TSSAA.

Knoxville Webb was the best team we saw all year (by far), but we did not see CPA, Goodpasture or any of the West teams. I can't believe they only have 1 senior.

Agreed on all accounts, especially that T on Anderson after he stopped the layup. That was completely ridiculous! You couldn't tell whether his brother said anything to get his T early in the 3rd qtr to put him out.

We've got two issues going on...IMO. Officials have become very touchy for some reason, not allowing any kind of emotions at all, which is not natural. They seem to want to set an agenda, making themselves more a part of the outcome than they should be. AND.....these kids are seeing way too much show-boating/jawing/taunting being allowed by college and pro athletes, so they think they're entitled to do the same. It sort of seems to me to be a sign of the times in general. Our society is going in the wrong direction. Parents and coaches can change this.......if they want to.

The best officiated game I saw all year was our game v CPA in the quarterfinal. The officials let the kids decide the game on the court. They called fouls sparingly, and both teams handled themselves with class and grit. It was a great game.....minus the outcome. :(

It was good meeting you OLDad. I wish the best for you and your son! God bless!!!

Did anyone see the championship game?  Why so many technicals?  I didn't see it, but saw the score and it was pretty lopsided

Webb did what Webb does.....they shot lights out from 3 in the first quarter, scoring 29 pts. They played suffocating defense. Game over! TRA got behind, lost discipline and allowed emotion to take over. The officials all tourney were way too sensitive to anything that even looked suspect.....per, the Nashville guru of HS sports....Tom Kreager. He even tweeted about it and wrote a column on it, believe it or not. I disagreed with him some. He doesn't understand the difference between intensity and passion vs emotion. Emotion gets you T'd up.

Webb was the best team in the state in DII-A this year, once they figured out how to get their new starters integrated into their roles. They finished on a 17-game win streak. They probably beat the 2nd best team, Harding Academy, in that quarter-final at Webb last weekend.

Even if we would've had CJ at point all year, they would've still been tough to beat. It sure would've been fun to see. Sadly, that fateful trip to Oak Hill in December ended our hopes for a repeat. Our boys played their hearts out, but you simply can't lose a Mr. B-ball finalist, especially one that plays PG. It allowed everyone to concentrate on stopping Grant.

To beat it all, Sparty's four best players come back next year for their SR year. They likely will repeat, unless the other Webb School decides to play with discipline and not emotion. The Webb Feet have the best player in the state coming back, but he can't keep on the court in tough games, because he fouls too much....he plays with emotion.

All congratulations and respect go to the Webb Spartans. On to baseball season........

    Thanks for the kind words!

It was great meeting a fellow CoachT poster in person and Grace’s fan base. It was great game and a shame someone had to lose (overused cliche I know).

Thr second half was one of the most exciting I’ve seen. I was worried those last 4 minutes. After watching the winning shot many times, it struck me how great the penetration and kick out to Stout by the sophomore Zapp really was...

I hope we can meet again in baseball, also my favorite time of the year (12 inning scrimmage last night). But first we’ve got some more work to do with the bouncing ball.

You guys move the ball to the open 3 as well as Webb does. I hope you have enough athleticism to handle their pressure to make it a great semifinal. I'll be listening on my way home from NC. Good luck my friend!

It must have been a good game?

Only if you're a Sparty fan......

Best game (or worst from my Sr's perspective) was last night at CPA in our game with them.......the home team came out on top by 2 pts in a back and forth battle that included what turned out to be an incredible, back-breaking 3/4 court shot from the far free-throw line at the 3rd quarter buzzer by McCormick. Its on Twitter @cpabasketball if anyone wants to relive that shot. It didn't sink us.....missed free throws did, but it was ultimately the deciding margin nonetheless.

Having said all of that, I'd like to thank BreadTruck and his friends at CPA for hosting us the past two games. Y'all were as kind as any opposing fans ever could be. And, it was a great gym to play in. Good luck to your guys this weekend. You know my family is rooting for you! You've got your hands full though. Webb Knox is better now than at any time last year. The have no size, but they're extremely athletic, they bring four quarters of chaos on the defensive end, and they shoot 3's as well as you guys did last night, if not better.....if that's possible. :(

It should be a doozy of a Final Four. Good luck to all teams. As for my boy.......it is finally my favorite season of the year.......BASEBALL SEASON!!! GO RAMS!!!

Sometimes I wish the boy did stress a little more over the ACT lol! He took his 1st one and got the score he needed but knows he can do better. He didn’t manage the time well on 3 parts and ran way out of time and just had to circle a lot of answers in. Of course the part he finished with time to spare was way higher score than those other 3 so he looked at that as a positive and said now I  know better how to tackle that beast. He’s chomping at the bit to take another stab at it to raise that overall composite score. He’s a glass is always half full kind of kid and doesn’t sweat much over stuff. Not to say he is laid back because the kid can be high strung with a high motor but maturity keeps that in check most of the time. We’ve always laughed and joked when he was younger that if given a tough choice he’ll go with something like which school colors he likes best which is obviously the least thing that should be on a priority list. You know as well as I though Junior year is typically the overall funnest and much less stress free compared to Senior year. The mindset changes in the year of “lasts” and it starts getting real. I hate he got the injury in the playoffs but going through that has changed him for the better on many levels. Best of luck to that TE of yours and whether he plays throughout college or not he’s got to do what is best for him in the long run. We learned that with the 1st one and he’s hung the cleats up, trudging away at that engineering degree, met “the” girl on campus, & making plans for his future. At the end of the day he’s happy and still following God so what more can we want as a parent? Ok back to football....

Our kids could be related somehow....LOL!!! Mine did the very same thing the first go-around on the ACT. Now, he's blown it out, and getting most of his education paid for that he would've gotten, if he'd played football. He's done. When all of the schools that have come back around this past couple of weeks can't interest him, I know he's completely done. I'll get over it someday......probably when he's walking down that aisle with his engineering degree and "the" girl is waiting to celebrate with him. :)

That’s what I have told him since day one. I want him to go where God wants him and if it’s not where the Lord wants him then I pray that he shuts the door.

You're way ahead of me, Dad. It will make the process much less stressful on you and LadyKee. It is going to be quite stressful on him, no matter what school he chooses, simply because he's good enough to garner interest from all levels. Thankfully, he's a very bright kid, and I'm sure he will handle it along with the school/ACT responsibilities just as mine has. I just hope you have a peace about things when it is all said and done.

Based on the comments from above....they can't get 'em all right, I guess. Maybe you should give them a helping hand?

I wish #23 (and Mom n Dad) the very best of success on the camp/recruiting trail this spring! I hope he lands just where The Good Lord wants him to be. Mine shocked everyone, including his parents. I hope he's going to end up right where the Good Lord wants him to be. I'm going to trust that he is. Sometimes, we can, I truly do believe this to be true......and, as Garth Brooks so eloquently stated, "Thank God for unanswered prayers."

    Inside sources compilation:

    Q.  How does the high school all state football process work?

    * It's an extensive process that includes as many individuals as possible who cover high school athletics for newspapers from around the state.

    * Coaches do not have input (vote) and neither do recruiting services.

    * I usually ask for coaches recommendations from their team and put a list together to email out.

    * Statistics from the regular season as well as the postseason are covered.

    Q. When does this process take place?

    * For football, writers from around the state submit nominations around the week of the title games.

    * There is a meeting (and there were two this year) during the state championships to begin working on the teams and further discussion via phone calls, emails and text messages to try and properly cover all areas of the state and make sure we do not miss deserving individuals.

    * Basically it's the writers from each section of the state who send in nominations from their area, someone compiles all of those based off stats, Mr Football etc and then they send out a list for everyone to look over and make sure none of their local kids are left off.

    Q. Who tallies the votes?

    * It's someone different every year. I did it for football and basketball for several years.

    Consensus :

    * It is NOT an exact science and I'm sure there are individuals missed.

    Me :  Thanks.

I checked this topic just so I could congratulate the deserving players on the list from Greenback. CONGRATS TO EACH OF YOU......you all have memories to last a lifetime. Just ask OnB and his buddies......as they should, they're still reliving and telling stories from days gone by. Your kids will be giving you heck someday as you do the same.

As for this All-State banter......have you all not realized the ONLY All-State team that has true credibility is the TnFCA Coaches All-State Team? (That's not to say the kids on the sportswriters' poll didn't have good years, because I guarantee each one had statistical monster years.) This poll you all are fussin' over is based on statistics, because the so-called sportswriters have no flippin' clue what kids opposing coaches are most scared to defend, or scheme around offensively. They don't get to cover the state, or prepare to face the best from other areas like coaches do from watching film and playing those teams. Basic stats can be skewed for many different reasons, most of which you have covered. They do not always tell the real story.

To further bolster my point, if this year has proven nothing else, the newspaper sports coverage (in ETN at least) is non-existent, or pitiful at best. That is, unless they let Jesse Smithey and his @5starpreps team contribute to the voting.....which I'm sure they didn't. I believe you'll find that stud Wingo on the All-State team that matters most in the "ATHLETE" category, just as LadyKee suggested he should be. As usual.......Mom's right! :)

    HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!!!!

  13. BreadTruck.......I hope your son's ACL surgery was a success, and that he's up and getting after rehab this week. Here's to 2019 being a new beginning for our boys, no matter what direction The Lord has them turning. Hope to see you guys at state this spring! (It'll be an uphill climb to get there with CAK's loaded senior laden roster in our district. We'll see.......)

    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

He sat out last year, his Sophomore year. He's a player. We're pretty good and should be in the mix.

He's a player, yes....... My guess is he's fixin' to learn what being a real "player" is all about this weekend! He has the potential to be one of them.

Want to make a road trip Saturday? Momma is still recouperating, so I'm leaving her at home with my first born. We just might get to see an NBA player or two.

Of course, the forecast looks decent, so I'm sure you'll be chasing that little dimpled rascal. Offer stands.....just let me know.

Thanks ... it was a pleasure meeting you as well. From what I saw, GCA is sitting prime for another state championship run ... I was very impressed.

We struggled to put TKA away last night but our sophomore post stepped up with 30+ in a high scoring game.

Look forward to seeing you again.

That soph post would've made things interesting for our post monster. I'm sure we'll get to see that play out in 2019. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

Thanks! The CoachT football community is a fun place to hangout online for sure. Lots of great conversations over the last four years or so. A lot of good and knowledgeable guys, gals and Booger...

Friday was fun for sure. Even back in middle school I thought this year’s team would be special. I watched Kane receive his All-American bowl jersey today and was so happy for him after the way his season ended last year. I feel blessed that my son was a member of such a great senior class on and off the field.

No on the basketball playing. Hope to see you guys in baseball. My son’s second ACL surgery attempt is the 26th, so he won’t be an active player, but still a part of the team. Any prayers you want to offer up on that day for it to go smoothly would be welcomed.

Take care all and have a great holiday season!

BT, I'm always happy to pray for anyone in need......I've got it in my reminders for the day after Christmas. This is a tough time to have to go through that. Our soph RB just had his ACL/MCL repaired. He got hurt in the FRA game. I talked to his parents last night, and they say the doc is convinced he'll be ready for next season based on him being ahead of schedule already. But, I'll have to say.....I've been through the ACL surgery and rehab....I can't imagine being back 100% that fast, and I sure cannot imagine having to do it twice! May all of The Lord's healing power fall upon your young stud.

  18. CONGRATULATIONS BreadTruck (and all CPA players and faithful followers!) Nobody can say you didn't earn this championship. You beat the two best teams with no doubt as to who the better team was this year. I hope you got that big hug every dad should experience at least once!

BT......it was good to "meet" a new friend on here. I don't know if your son plays b-ball, but it sounded like he plays baseball. Maybe we'll get to shake hands and share stories down the road somewhere. I hope all turns out just as The Lord has planned for your son.

As for mine.....I'm pretty much done Raise'n him.....but, I'll never stop Prayin' for him! Its time for me to go take care of the true ROCK of our family for a bit.....his momma. Before I go....MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! I wish all of God's blessings on each and every one of you during my favorite time of the year.
