Who else remembers the vulgar sign that somebody from Marshall County hung in the front of Giles County’s gym and spray painted male anatomy images in bright orange in the end zone the night before Giles County and Marshall County were suppose to play about 8 years ago?Marshall County has shady characters too.

I do remember that all happening, Marshall kids did hang the banner but remember the Giles kids were actually the ones responsible for the spray painted anatomy parts because they had video of the Giles kids buying spray paint at Walmart. So the kids admitted they did it, now I also remember Giles painting “Giles County gonna kick that azz” over our Tiger head on our field about 10 years ago and we didn’t find out about it til right before game so we spray painted black over it, that looked terrible! I’ve been around a long  time and have seen a lot of stuff transpire between Marshall and Giles, not saying it’s all one sided at all, but as of lately it’s been downright ugly stuff and this last event on way home from Lawrence County was very dangerous.

There doesn’t seem to be any discussion about MC players throwing bottles and stuff out of their bus at Giles county fans as they left the parking lot Friday night Love my tigers??? Are you going to be willing to suspend your players like OC and administration did? Plus the vulgar language and hand signs they used toward player parents standing as they left? Nor the mention that your number 3 wanted to fight long after the game was over. Let’s be balanced in our story.

Wanted to be sure to tell you how we handled our player, he was dismissed from the team. And the others were suspended a game, so to answer your question of how we would handle this, it’s been handled much harsher than your coaches handled your players destroying property and trying to run us off the road! Obviously I don’t condone vulgar language or hand gestures at parents or throwing trash, but on the “ balanced storytelling part you mentioned “, what our players did seems very minor compared to yours. Just wanted to be clear, so everyone can understand what really happened. I’m personally sick of putting up with Giles antics , would hate to see this rivalry end, because I loved it when I played basketball, but maybe it needs to end.

For crying out loud you sound like one of your students.  "You started" sounds like a kid.  You are a teacher so please act like one.  Sounds like kids from both kids where wrong and unfortunately this seems to be the youth from all over now a days.   Not a fan of either coach but I don't think any of this is their fault

I’m not a teacher, and I don’t condone any of it but what you think about me I really could care less! I’m a grown adult that wanted to remind people our kids had left them alone until they “ started “ the trouble at Lawrence County. It’s exactly the youth of today all over I agree with that but I’m in no way affiliated with teachers, just a long time Tiger alumni and fan. I know our coaches are not happy about any of it, and it will be handled accordingly. So why don’t you worry about your team and not “start” anything else with me! I’ve dealt with you before in case you had forgotten. And no the coaches can’t be blamed from either team, you try to teach kids life lessons but unfortunately sometimes they still act out , especially when you can’t be around 24/7.

I don’t condone any of that stuff and I can assure you it will be handled accordingly. But it seems to me that doesn’t justify a parent climbing into the bus wanting to fight kids either. But look all I’m saying is we need to get it back to a respectable level rivalry, I just don’t compare kids saying vulgar words ( which is unacceptable as well) to your kids trying to run us off the road and cause multiple wrecks and vandalizing school property! I’m not going to discuss anything else with you, both teams need to play ball and leave the rest alone! So I’m sorry I don’t feel at all “ balanced” in my storytelling! 2 wrongs don’t make a right, but y’all started it at Lawrence County and now it’s escalated to this mess!

Yeah that’s uncalled for.Did the right thing by calling police.Yeah social media puts a different spin on things these days.I hate social media to a point.I miss the days where a rivalry was a friendly rivalry and the worst things we did was send black roses to the rivals school the week of the game.

Also I left out Giles players destroyed our visitors locker rooms last night, with fire extinguishers. Doesn’t change the outcome of our game but shows how unclassy  they can be, wonder how coach will handle that. They should be made to come clean it up, instead of us having too.

Yes I agree with you, social media has totally changed the rivalry into a very ugly battle now and also along with a lack of parenting at home for some as well. See ya next year bobcat93!

Off field incidents cause by a few Giles County players? Do explain.

Came to our game at Lawrence County, game went without incident and on our way to buses started hollering rude, vulgar language. We get on buses and leave and they proceed in 2-3 cars of them to swerve in and out of our cars hanging out window giving the bird finger, cussing and get in front of buses and hit their brakes repeatedly. 2 ladies had to take the shoulder to keep from getting hit and cops were called and they were pulled over. And 3 players were suspended because of it, funny when a parent went to GCHS to complain the AD and assistant principal knew nothing about it. I’m sorry that GCHS principal had to deal with all that during her illness, she’s a fine lady. So I’m personally just glad our game is over, wished we would have won to feel less mad about the whole situation but it is what it is. I enjoy the rivalry part as much as anyone for 49 years now, but what happened last week took it to a dangerous level. I remember in school we stole banners and had tacky language between Marshall and Giles but there was a level of respect that’s just not there anymore, it makes me sad. But social media is probably to blame for most of that!

The only thing that irked me was the decision to go for it instead of kick the field goal. I'm not criticizing the coaches work ethic, teaching, or anything else.  I know this is a good group of coaches. Letting good teams hang around will get you beat. Especially when the opposing coach knows your schemes inside and out. The head coach cant control flag happy officials and when that starts to happen, along facing a talented defense, points are at a premium and you have to take what you can get. With that being said, I dont think Marshall County would have had the success that they have had witout this coaching staff.

Yes I can agree with all those points you made. Well after a long week of having to deal with the off the field incidents of last Thursday nights  event  caused by a few Giles players, I’m mentally worn out from dealing with that and glad our game is over and doesn’t  affect our playoff chances at all. So thanks for clearing the air! Go Tigers!

I'm not bashing the coaches. I think they have done a really good job. My point is that there is a common denominator in big or tight games. This game didnt mean anything as far as playoffs seeding is concerned.  It was a chance to learn and get better. The coaches and kids bust their tails and I want to see them succeed.

I remember a third overtime win at Maplewood about 4 years ago when we utilized our kicker as well. I would just like for people to understand that our coaches put in around 30+ hours of coaching a week plus games and clinics plus teaching school. And at home they study 30 hours of film or more a week, so when people “question “ their coaching, I’d like to see those people make 45,000$ a year to coach and teach kids that are sometimes very hard to deal with and parents as well. Trust me these coaches are constantly teaching morals and life lessons to these boys. Osteen has had many offers to leave and  would make more money somewhere else, he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to our football program.  Just felt like you were being a little unappreciative, these coaches aren’t perfect but they  certainly try to have our players best interest at heart.

Osteen never had Medley, Osteen came in May 2014. Coach Pitts resigned on April 14 of 2014, trust me I know exactly how and when that happened, my son was a Senior 2014 and Pitts resigned the week I was in charge of the Senior Prom. You know who I am and I’m closer to this program than any person commenting on here. Giles #10 threw a punch and no foul for that, I wanted to add that.

Medley graduated May 2014, sorry left that out.

Medley was kicking for UT in 2014. https://utsports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=884

I guess I don’t see the issue at Catholic because we hadn’t slowed them down once when he was going for them early. We were down, and he felt he needed points immediately. I see both sides there, but I think going early makes some sense when it looked like we couldn’t slow them down.

Maybe I remember Central differently, but they started loading the box the second half and forced us to throw.

Just my opinion of the matter. Easy to second guess a coach after the fact, but I think he’s done a phenomenal job with the program. We’ve had a few other coaches see similar waves of talent as he has had and do less with it.

You are accurate with your statements on Catholic and Central! That is exactly the way both those games went. Osteen has done an awesome job with the hand we’ve been dealt from Wallace leaving and then all the injuries we had last season. At one point we had 7-9 starters all out with injuries. And not many fans know the trials and tribulations we’ve had to deal with this season with different players in different situations. Appreciate the love for our coaching staff and not posting negative comments. Thank you mc fan10 from a very loyal and longtime Tiger fan!

Osteen had Medley in his first year in 14. It was Medley's senior year. In 15 against Catholic he went for it on 4th and 10 from the 50 on 3 consecutive drives. Catholic turned all that into points. We lost by 19. Why, if you know the other team is that talented, fo you give them a short field and not make them go the length of the field to score? In 16 against Knox Central we had a 24-3 second quarter lead and we try and get cute and start throwing the ball when we had been running it down their throats for almost 2 quarters. Stick with what works. A 2 point win is as good as a 50 point win.

You are almost as big a slappy as that ridiculously bad radio broadcast team that they have. Two years ago Their fans screamed obscenities and called an injured player a p—y. Last year, an armed sherriff’s deputy patrolling our sidelines? Whining about spots, whining about penalties. MC plays like trash. Cheap shots, late hits and for what? A trip deep (but not quite deep enough) into the playoffs? Lady (and I use the term loosely) get some semblance of a life. I support my team, but there is a whole lot more than high school football.

Yes certainly more to life than football, how well I know I’ve raised children that were sick and now graduated college. We help take care of some of these kids, so it’s life lessons, academics and character building we hope to pass on. Why sir are you even on our thread, if you don’t care? You certainly talk about us a lot if you don’t care! Glad we are some entertainment for you! If you are talking about us, we are doing it right!

Obviously he left us because his brother Bo went back to coach at Giles and he wanted to play for him. I’m tired of explaining it to you kid! We are proud of our Tigers and their overcoming lots of adversity this season we now after playing a 6A heavyweight school and losing by 10 points have 3 more starters injured- what I’m saying is I’m truly proud of the effort these boys and coaches have given to work with what we have had to endure! We can’t even get any non conference opponents to play us - 5A-6A schools turn us down and some we have to pay to come play us. I don’t even know who Bubba  is - so no it wasn’t him. YOU are the one constantly getting on here talking about us- you don’t see me going around talking about y’all and believe me I have a good friend who’s son plays for y’all. So I wouldn’t put your team down in any way. In fact I thought SH played very well against us, they are athletic and physical and never gave up! But you sir/child whichever must be obsessed with us, because you are the one on here talking about us! So YOU started it buddy! I have a very established business in MC and we have a lot to be proud of, you don’t go around putting down our county insisting we are in breds! I’m involved with this program so actually they are part of my life, again you worry about SH and I will take care of the Tigers!

When you have as much time and energy that I put into this program, you’d certainly understand why I care so much!

Then why did he leave the fine program Osteen built during his senior year?

Excuses excuses...we have 10 injured players, blah blah.

youre referring to Bubba? He came home to play because SHHS finally got wrestling, his true calling.

I don’t think ANY players should be allowed to “move” a few miles up the road to play HIGH SCHOOL football, and if the TSSAA had a single hair on their ####, they would start punishing programs that do it.

I am glad you support your high school (Maury County could certainly support their teams a little bit more), but at the end of the day, you are getting fired up and calling names about 15-18 year olds playing football. How bad must it suck in MC that that’s all you have to be proud of?

you have 32,000 people living in your whole county (most of whom I’m sure are related). Please, blather on about your beloved Tigers...I wouldn’t want to take the one positive thing  about Marshall County away from you.

We’ve scheduled 5a and 6a teams. As for you not being down long...I’m sure not, Giles has a bumper crop of young players to chose from...

The family didn’t want Wallace to play for the “then “ coach at Giles, since Osteen had coached Bo they wanted the best for Bryce- that was a family decision. It’s quite simple actually, his brother and old coaching staff came back to Giles so he went back. The former coach was Walt Smith, I’m sure you remember him, didn’t y’all have him awhile too? We DON’T have to go around recruiting players, actually they come to us and ask how to get to MCHS! I could name a few on your team that came back in the winter asking but I won’t do that to a kid because I’m a grown woman! But we may have had a down year to you- but we have 10 injured players and have lost 2 games by one point- you hate us cause you ain’t us! Grow up and worry about your own team and I will take care of the  Tigers! Maybe we should have taken your players that came begging to play- I’ve been around along time little boy, now go play in the street! Remember people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks! Go Tigers! I BLEED BLUE!

You are correct on all counts! We need updated facilities bad!! We complain trust me! Sorry you have to endure our old 1956 field! Only thing New is our scoreboard! Lol sorry!

Bunch of freaking spoiled brats that don't know how to take a loss. Surprising considering their record for this year. Just jealous that maplewood significantly better.

Nobody is jealous about it- sure I wished our season was better but Maplewood has a great team this year. I could tell last year they were on the upswing! I’ve never said any of this is why we lost- they played better and refs were way better than last time we played. We’ve beaten them 3 times previously and never had an issue til playoffs last year. You have your opinion and I have mine, like it or not it’s a legal play- we’ve had it done before and caused a fumble! Even if his knee had touched the ground it would still be legal! Nobody trying to hurt Qb just hoping to cause a fumble! Several high school coaches in my family, seen it all in my 48 years! I guess you defend the player punching our coach as well, could have pressed charges, cops wanted him to. But didn’t want to stir more up. Done !
