  1. PF is Pigeon Forge.

Agree Hardin Valley hasn't performed at the level I thought they should. IF that job comes up I look for a Coach With in knox county schools make a move from a difficult situation and go all out for that job. Just needs to keep in mind that beating up on single A schools won't help build the program. Maybe up tempo can enlighten us.

Red there are inferences all over your statement with a "lil" bit of hostility! Any particulars you want to enlighten us on? What connection does up tempo have in all this? Did not know HVA was on the chopping block?

  2. What about Memphis Hamilton? I thought I read somewhere they have to forfeit games. Will this cause an opening? I know Memphis is a different animal with how they handle issues. Just curious.

What's the word on Overton (Nashville)? Thought the coach did a solid job?

  3. were there any balls handed out on thursday???

the kansas city chiefs beat the seahawks and patriots this season...dont hear anyone going on and on about how amazing they are...

champions are crowned...everyone else is just watching, and crying

Here let me put it in plain English. Those of us who were watching all 3 days felt the game between Haywood and Carter was the best game and would have been a better Championship game then the actual game. CPA and Fulton were not as entertaining. Love, set, match DHStennis!

  4. Seriously...Carter is not in the same category as Fulton.  2 years of success doesn't make you a high school powerhouse.  Carter has had their two years of glory now it's time to jet coach. Bench got no experience, relied on starting 5 all year.  Can't even compare these two coaches. Jody Wright is a legend and future Hall of Famer.

Augusta, you need to recant your words. Carter is in a better category than Fulton. They not only played better defense/offense against the state champs but with under a minute and a half had the lead. Carter played better, tougher and took it to Haywood. Your legend and future hall of famer should have taken a page out of Carter coach's gameplan! He out coached the legend. Carter was the only team in the tournament that had leads on Haywood and by everyone in the Murphy Center's view beat them everywhere on the floor. CPA didn't and as for the championship game, it was over the 1st qtr! The championship game was played on Thursday vs Carter.

  5.

Allow me to play Devils advocate here if you will. I do agree something needs to be done to fix the way Tennessee high school basketball is handled as a whole. But wouldn't that only contribute to the whole "everybody gets a trophy" culture of sports today? By creating even more divides? CPA hasn't won a state championship in 3 years now. No private won a title last season. More often than not, the privates do not win. No private will win this season. Again, I'm not disagreeing, just playing Devils Advocate.

It's real simple! If you are funded by federal money and not private donations/funds you are PUBLIC!! If you pay tuition which is tax-deductible and corporations are involved you are PRIVATE!! Let both have their separate state tournaments, determining public/private champs then.........DRUMROLL........let the two play each other for a true Mano/Mano champ! Alright, come out and let the debate begin. Be kind and objective though!!

  6. Seriously...Carter is not in the same category as Fulton.  2 years of success doesn't make you a high school powerhouse.  Carter has had their two years of glory now it's time to jet coach. Agree with you on a couple of points. Two years do not make a powerhouse of which Fulton has definitely established. Fulton had some bumps in the past and from time to time over the years. Carter has been IMHO the team that has drawn everyone's attention including the Falcons the past two years. That does not make them a powerhouse but they have been the team on everyone's calendar to play/see. They were as you said young on the bench. As for comparing coaches, you are the only one that mentioned it. Coach Wright thru the years has established himself as a good coach. Depending on who you talk to or where you talk to them he as well as other coaches are either respected or "someone you for whatever reason don't care for and want to beat his team on the floor badly"....which I might add is another form of healthy respect for what you have built as a coach! Where I disagree with you is assuming the Carter coach may "jet" or the trying to compare him to anyone else. You sound like a Fulton faithful which is fine but at least be fair and objective! If you want to compare coaches then I don't believe in the first 2 years at Fulton that Coach Wright was able to accomplish what Carter's coach has in 2 years. As for "jetting", who are we to judge or question anyone's personal motives or decisions? Well I have been long winded but, IMHO we as debaters need to be fair and objective to those men and women who give up their long hours for the betterment of KIDS! Be blessed all and have a great day!

  7. Order is not important. Teams that lost first round are in the bottom 4. Teams that lost in semis are 3 and 4. They will not have an opportunity to win the championship or runner up trophy. CPA can't be second cause they aren't playing in the championship game.

Who cares? The only one that matters is the state champion! Off the top of your head r/b can you tell me who was #4 5yrs ago?$&@

  8. Chatt Central did beat Livingston after two overtimes. Livingston also took Carter to two overtimes. So I think they were better than they looked today.

    L

Carter beat Livingston by 9 at the G-P Christmas tournament championship.....it was not double ot.....

  9. Speculation is good! hahaha but Yea I guess we'll just have to wait until next week to see what's what. I hope none of the coaches we mention step down or released of their duty but we'll see.

Stanton vs Higgins???? Well considering the fact Higgins played college ball I would give him the upper hand on this battle.

Blevins is good year in and year out but he don't have a title to show for it.

Wright he hasn't won in a little minute so there's not much to say about him either. But if you look at his team how many of his players are TRUE Fulton players?

Players will go where the winning is taking place no matter who the coach is. I understand that but its Knox County fault for issuing out transfers like a loaf of bread. If these kids don't want to go to their base school, oh well send them. Its all about getting an EDUCATION anyway. If you don't have the grades then you can't play sports. THat's what these players need to realize.

But back to the topic at hand, JOB OPENINGS!!

Back to the original topic! With the boys season ending this week at the boro' there should be some movement to start picking up in the coaching ranks. Any other inside scoop on potential openings?
  10. It's my opinion nothing more.  I think Higgins will do well at Central and knew he had work to do. They will be better next year.  Sorry if I offended

Not offended, just curious. When people comment on here others take their statements to be gospel till found otherwise. Apologies if I came across otherwise.

  11. We also played at. Omen areina the. first. of. Year. And. Beat. Two good. Teams. Pretty bad. So. big. Gym don't. worry us. Uc. Wins by double digit you. can count on it.

Big arenas present two issues that most H.S. teams do not experience: 1- depth perception for shooters/background 2. 94 ft vs 84 ft. At this point in the season most teams should focus on "doing what they do best" and not start making "WHOLESALE" changes to their team philosophies!

  12. Everybody has a chance....nobody gave Fla. Gulf Coast a chance to last past the first rd last march and look at the run they had....You never know tournament time what can happen...stay tuned!

Uptempo, I understand where your coming from and would have to agree to a point. That is what makes tournament time exciting! Anyone on any given day can put it all together and slay Goliath!

  13. Coach Davis is my boy too as you should know, but AE has to do something about getting a good coach in there. Would have to disagree that other schools are "stealing" kids. Athletes want to play for winning programs and AE has some work to do to fix issues they have. Not sure Higgins would have gone to AE, but Carters coach will move were the talent is.

DH, how do you know about Higgins and Carter's coach? Where do you get your information from? Central has not been very good and Carter was 8-22 two years ago. Curious how you figure Higgins would not go where he has a chance to win and Carter's coach won down in Georgia. What lured him to Carter? Athletes on an 8-22 team?

  14. No way Catholic wins especially at The Jody!

Looks like the Runnin Hornets just escaped the Tornadoes. Saw where Coach Boydstone said they practiced last Thursday and Friday, which is prohibited by Knox Co. school policy. Can't say that I blame him...that is a stupid policy and puts the Knoxville kids at an unfair disadvantage compared to surrounding counties.

It is unfair to the Knoxville kids. Knox County needs to re-evaluate a lot of policies!!!

  15. Neutral observer on this message board, BUT have heard ad nauseam about Carter and "The System" and will say it is all fine and dandy with athletes. Without athletes... "The System" is garbage. No defense = no championships...TRUE:) Yeah, you win a bunch of regular season games that really have no meaning in basketball, BUT lose vs. teams that D your butt up and slow you down..tourney ball. That is what smart coaches with average to decent talent will do vs. "The Sytem." Also, it is obvious that the guy moves around...wouldn't hire him IF you're looking for a long term solution. Just my humble opinion...what do I know:)?

Neutral observers don't come across sounding so personal, IF your neutral! What does it matter about styles or coaches moving to different schools. It's rare any coach stays put at one place their whole career anyways. If a coach has an opportunity to better himself and family more power to them. Before this guy carter was 8-22, now they are winning. You speak like you are a coach and have the solution on how to stop him and yet for 2 years carter is winning. Any principal looking to improve their athletic programs are looking for coaches with proven track records who can make a difference sooner than later. We as fans all want winners but we want it now, "not long term solution". Farragut would be that kind of situation where they are used to winning programs in the past across their athletics. Let's keep this post about potential vacancies and not "speculate" about a coach's style or job history. Just my "humble opinion" !

  16.

The source I heard said that if Kirk doesn't turn things around in the district or region tournament, the Alcoa administration will most likely make a change in the next 2-3 weeks. Just what I heard.

What will it take to win again at Alcoa? Style change? Politics? Discipline?

  17. District Tournament Champions.

District 3 AAA. Oak Ridge with ease. Central looked good last night. Can they make some noise. Going with Karns Central and CAMPBELL co to advance to region.

District 3 AA. Article in paper today referenced Carter having beat two players in Knoxville area. So I pick them to beat Fulton in championship game AE is dangerous and playing well. Will take care of GP for third place.

District 4 AAA. Maryvile is my pick cause they are playing at home. Bearden runner up. Heritage and West battle it out for 3 and 4.

District 4 AA. Catholic and CAK in championship game. Alcoa and Scott for 3 and 4. Order of finish CAK Catholic Scott Alcoa.

Don't sleep on A-E.....just quick enough and talented enough to pull off the upset vs Fulton..

  18. Top Ten knoxville Area. Based on recent results, overall record, and schedule.

OR: have great players all can score double digits.

Carholic: great depth. Physical players. Better team with their best player hurt.

Maryville: Beat #1 AAA team in state. Then drops one to Catholic. The deepest most talented team in the state.

Bearden: great record two good wins vs Jeff co and Maryville. 7 wins vs avg AA and A teams.

Jeff Co. Good record. DB beat them last night. Only scored 37?

CAK: good coach. CAMPBELL is really good.

Fulton: one man show. Stop him they can't score? How have they won 18 in a row.

Carter greatest show on earth. Know quality wins but they sure beat up on weak teams.

West: watch for them in the post season.

Webb I guess can't think of anyone else.

Carter has wins over Top ranked AAA White County/Top Ranked Livingston Academy and a good Lebanon team to name a few...to say "Know"( sp check) quality wins is not an accurate statement......you and Brian Williams need to watch your reporting!!!!!!
