  1. What has happen to LA baseball?

Football coach trying to coach baseball. He did alright at 1st but that was all his assistant. Now he is gone and so is the program.

  2. Extremely proud of our boys for playing lights-out today against one of the best teams in the country...I personally feel we were robbed of a state title by the refs, who missed an obvious foul on Tanner Tapp where he was stripped prior to Hamilton's go-ahead layup with about 20 seconds left. We had the better game plan and our biggest mistake was speeding the game up when we had a 12-point lead in the second quarter, which obviously played into Hamilton's hands.

This team wasn't supposed to be *quite* as good, at least on paper, as the past two Brentwood teams and our final W-L record reflected that (we were 30-7 this year contrasted with 32-3 last year and 30-5 the year before that).

That said, we have five great seniors who are all outgoing, outspoken leaders, have phenomenal basketball IQs, and play with perhaps the best chemistry of any Brentwood team ever. Whereas the signature quality of our squad two years ago was our sheer depth, and the signature quality of last year's team was a virtually (offensively) unstoppable starting five, the hallmark of this year's team is that we basically started five point guards, rarely turned it over, and just did the little things like taking charges very well.

What most people don't know about this year's Brentwood team is that we had to replace two of the best forwards in school history (Andy Schumpert and Jacob Adcock) and a great shooting guard in Jack Bautista who all graduated last year; Schumpert was also probably one of the best players in Williamson County history. Additionally, during the course of this season we had to replace our most experienced and arguably best overall player (three-year starting PG James McPherson, the best pure distributor in school history, who was dismissed from the team at the end of the regular season) and our most athletic starter (junior post Ahmad Arnold, who tore his ACL against Blackman in December).

That's five starters we had to replace in less than a year, three of whom were our best inside players who were essentially replaced by guards. But Benny and Toe Bautista (junior twins who are the younger brothers of Jack) slid into the starting lineup in January and meshed astonishly well with our "Big Three" of PG Jalen Lawson, SF Grant Teichmann, and PF Tanner Tapp. Lawson also had big shoes to replace when McPherson was booted, sliding from shooting guard to point guard, where he is honestly a better fit. (His older brother told me today that he was offered by and committed to Lipscomb this week, but I still need to confirm that.)

Anyways, today could be the end of an era following three straight AAA Final Four appearances and 30+ win seasons. It will be very tough to replace our five seniors, with only two of our seven rotation players (the Bautista twins, who are rising seniors) returning next year. Opposite of this year, we will be a frontcourt-heavy team next year that probably won't shoot as well as the past few teams; if outside shooting is to remain our calling card, several players will have to improve considerably this offseason.

If you had told me before the season that we'd play in our first-ever state championship game and lose a nailbiter to Hamilton, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat. That said, to have a state title within your grasp and have it slip away is a devastating feeling. But I love our seniors, who I've known since their undefeated freshman campaign, and think most D-1 schools in the country are nuts for not offering a Grant Teichmann already; the kid was born to play basketball and has the ideal build (6-3) and skills necessary to excel as a shooting guard at the next level.

Our team motto this season has been #3XC, meaning "third time's the charm" for our third straight state tournament appearance, and though we fell just short of a championship, this squad far exceeded my expectations.

The motto for next season, the team told me tonight, is #Back4More. Already excited to see next year's team develop!

Need a little cheese to go with that wine? I will give you the same words you gave White Co fans. See ya in 16 more years! Bahhhhaaaaa!
  3. Let me say this, do I believe CPA recruits? Absolutely! Public schools do as well. CPA has two titles. It's not like they've been dominant. CPA has one stud a rising point guard and a bunch of mediocre players. 7 of the last 11 state titles for AA, has come from the old district 12 AA and current 14 AA. And tonight I believe 15AA will capture the crown. Now there is talk about adding an extra class to basketball. Smh! Here we go with that every kid is a winner crap. Adding a extra class would do nothing but water down the tournament. Sometimes we just need to accept....some kids are just not good enough....period. You can't be good at everything. I never believed in Creekwood etc. To be the man, you have to beat the man. We didn't have classifications in Indiana, but I never heard anyone crying. CPA is nothing more than the Rick Insel invitational all over again. He recruited for Shelbyville for years. Do I believe TSSAA knows.....YES! Do I believe they want to catch it..... NO. Marryville and Alcoa football, has heard this for years. Suck it up and play. The CPA situation is deeper than basketball for me. The kids that are older.....Does Drew Maddux care about the kid? My perception is no. He exploits the kid for the betterment of him. I have absolutely no respect for that. This current format is going to be around at least, 2 more years. Live with and play ball.

Funny thing is when CPA beat JSS like a drum in 2013 you were singing a diffrent song even trying to get cpa fans to email & meet up with you because you were so mad. Here is a little quote from one of those post.

"Where is that 2007 Liberty Tech squad when you need them, LOL! Just call him Drew Insel Maddux........The name of their firm is.......The Shelbyville Riverdale CPA Group. Their motto is...."We Are Nationwide, We Even Get The Girls Involved".

Sounds like when your team got their butts handed to them you took shots too so dont be a hypocrite!

  4. Allow me to play Devils advocate here if you will. I do agree something needs to be done to fix the way Tennessee high school basketball is handled as a whole. But wouldn't that only contribute to the whole "everybody gets a trophy" culture of sports today? By creating even more divides? CPA hasn't won a state championship in 3 years now. No private won a title last season. More often than not, the privates do not win. No private will win this season. Again, I'm not disagreeing, just playing Devils Advocate.

Agree I dont like the participating metal. Now there is 5 state champions crowned. If the teams were split like I said before & only had A & AA in each division would be better than it is now. More of an even playing field with only 4 champions so it would be more competitive. The size of a school isn't as big of an advantage as the ability to bring in players from other areas.
  5. The "8th grader" is 15 years old or will be soon. Like Blackwell, he will graduate at 19.

Kinda like Chris Jones a few years ago at Melrose. Couldn't play in Tn his senior year because he was too old. Now anyone saying age doesn't make a huge difference is a fool! The 8th grader already has an upperclassmen body. Wait & see if he doesn't grow anymore either!
  6. The debate is on about public vs. private. I think 'open enrollment', 'magnet' and 'private' should all have their own division separate from public. Greeneville, Austin East and Fulton aren't much different.

Good point! The only way to even the playing field is to have public schools (zoned) as division 1 and magnet, open enrollment, & private schools as division 2. As it is Memphis aau programs can load up a team in each division (a, aa, aaa) & not break any rules. So it has to go further than a private/public split. We got to start somewhere tho!
  7. My take on the talent going to CPA. 1st I understand coaching & good academics will attract players & there is no rule broken when these kids choose to go that route. Ensworth is another private school that offers good coaching & academics. Now why would a family decide to go to CPA & not get financial aid when they could go to Ensworth & get a full ride legally. There is no logical reason to choose CPA unless there is money exchanged under the table. Teams like Haywood has this year is once every 10 years or so & I am glad they have their chance. The 2013 LA team was special like that & was the only team to give CPA a game that state tourn. Unfortunately, CPA had Lindsey, Blackwell, Bonds, Allsmiller (all aau transfers) & won by 12. These schools that are doing it the right way are being robbed of their opportunity (which may only come once every 10 years) & the CPA faithful are wondering why they have haters!

  8. Based on state tournament carter can't be in top 4 cause they didn't make semi finals. Remember this board is based on state tournament.

You must be biased? Based on state tourney & you have bottom 4 5-8 Brain, central, Creekwood, Carter. That order would be reversed if based on state tourn. You have listed them 8-5. Besides, if the two best teams meet in the 1st round, it is absurd to say the looser is automatically in the bottom 4! Top 2 teams are Haywood & CPA period! The championship was played today. Fulton is a worthy opponent to Haywood as would be Carter & maybe Creekwood. But they all would/will loose.
  9. lo freakin l...

you know dude isnt gona get on here and say a word...what a waste of my midnight

chatt ball in AA...gota be kidding me

Chatt Central did beat Livingston after two overtimes. Livingston also took Carter to two overtimes. So I think they were better than they looked today.
  10. Mitchell came within a hair of beating the best 6A team in Alabama this season. When they play they are the best and it is not close really. I think they are a top 5 or so team in state in any class. You have to watch them to really know how good they are when they are playing at their best.

They seem to change their classification every couple years & with open-zoned schools, classification doesn't matter!
  11.

If I talked smack/showed confidence towards another team/fan base before we play a game, the head coach would kill me, but I appreciate what you're saying.

Memphis East is a tough matchup for us, as are all teams from Memphis. We will have to fight like heck to keep them off the offensive glass. Lomax is a great player and they have some other great pieces as well.

Once again, I will not predict an outcome, but will bury my nose in film tonight and tomorrow. We have never won a state semifinal before so the onus is most certainly on us not to choke. Memphis teams' track record speaks for itself in the state tourney.

Your head coach is a classless idiot if he allows you to talk smack after a win but not before! Sounds like you don't have the stones to predict a win but want to beat your chest after one. No coach would allow either.

  12. Just some tongue-in-cheek trash talk to a fan base that was so confident going in against us.

Henderson is a heck of a player but the Warriors don't really have anyone around him. It was easy to see we were the toughest team they played this year.

I got a cheek & a bag pipe for ya right here! Congrats WC on season!
  13. We believe in our girls and you can call it putting them on a pedestal or whatever you want but we love these Betsy girls.

Its great that you love your team but everyone gets tired of the bragging. Just like cpa fans on here talking about no tn team has beaten bla bla....Everyone is aware of how good etown is but some of you guys even have said you are on the level of Blackman. All the bragging makes people want you to loose. So you bring that on yourself especially Bama!
  14. Guys we won and that's all that matters. Why all the hatred for the Cyclone girls because they have worked real hard to get were there at and there is no need to down these girls.

Maybe you guys need to quit putting them on a pedestal! Didn't see anyone say the girls were bad. Just didn't see this great press you guys were advertising. I promise you all these teams have worked hard not just the cyclones!
  15. You should have seen them with Deja!

Give it up already! Can the girls not enjoy their win? You guys are running it in the ground about Deja. Always bad when a player's season/career is cut short but alot of teams are facing adversity & you got to play the hand your delt.
