  1. I think everybody is about right as far as predictions go this year.  DaChamps is sandbagging us a little.  As for our boys, this year is a major question mark.  The defense lost 1 starter from a year ago.  The offense is having to break in a talented, but very very young and inexperienced OLine as well as a new QB. And we all know the games are won and lost up front.  Skill guys return around them though.  I would say my early prediction would be

    1. Maryville

    2. BC (Great QB, needs more consistency around him)

    3. DB (A little bit of a wake up call last year, good ball players)

4th will be a fight between Science Hill, HVA, and hopefully Bearden

    7. Jeff County (Don't be surprised if they get into that 4th place talk

    8. William Blount

  2. For what it's worth, from last year's game, I just don't see how Karns has been so bad for so long. When they stepped on the field, i was impressed with the athletes they had. I'm still a little shocked we beat them as bad as we did. The OK State kid wasn't the only good athlete on that field. If they hire the right guy, they should be playing with Teams like Clinton and Campbell county for playoff seeding. If what you guys are saying is true about Taylor getting this job, the first game of the year next year will have some bad blood I would expect. Emotions run high at Bearden when it comes to Brad Taylor.

  3. I heard Paul Shelton(Bearden OC) and Brad Taylor(former Bearden HC) have both applied for the job. I still don't understand why either of those guys would want this job.

Also, HTV brought up that Joe Hassell(current Karns DC) has probably applied too.

I wonder how long it will be until the Beavers make a hire.

I really hope this isn't the case for us. Coach Shelton will make a great head coach somewhere but I just hope it ain't somewhere else while my boy is at Bearden. Now if Brad Taylor got it, that would be quite the matchup the first week of next season wouldn't it?  :popcorneater:

  4. I would be willing to bet that our receiver #27 is about as good as any receiver we have played against this year. Although you wouldn't know it because most of the time our QB is running for his life because we don't have any pass protection. But when the QB actually has time to throw and #27 has time to get open its a big play waiting to happen, and he's had a number of them despite those issues. One being an 80 yard TD pass against Jeff Co, they just haven't been able to do that a lot because the blocking isn't there. And our running backs have had big plays as well but a lot of their yards are hard fought yards that they are getting all alone.

There isn't a kid on William Blount's team as good as #18 from BC or #25 from Science Hill.  Not by a long shot.

  5.

The Govs have 3 running backs that have had 100 yard rushing games and scored TDs, the QB has had 100 yard rushing games and rushing TDs, and the QB has had 200+ yards through the air in several games. We also have a big play receiver that has had several games where he scored 2 TDs and had gobs of receiving yards. WB has 7 guys that have scored TDs this year. I guarantee ya the only other team in the region that could say that is Maryville. But oh... We just don't have any athletes.

Impressive numbers man.  All I'm saying is that from the stands, nobody stood out.  You don't look out there at WB and say, "wow! look at so and so."  They all just look like regular high school football players.   And you guys had a pretty impressive offensive showing against us.  I remember the kids from the other schools.  From the eye test, William Blount, to me, didn't have those game changers.

  6. My personal perspective on William Blount, they don't have the athletes that 2-7 have in this conference.  They don't have an 11 from Jefferson County.  They don't have the RB from HVA. They don't have ANY receivers like 13 from Dobyns Bennett.  They don't have 25 from Science Hill.  They don't have an 18 from Bradley Central.  They don't have our QB.  At the end of the day, 2-7 in this conference didn't play well night in and night out, but they had some ball players that changed the direction of the game to get at least 1 or 2.  I'm sure every team from 2-7 can look at 1 or 2 games in this conference and say, "man, we should have played better." Or "If we hadn't turned the ball over" or "been penalized", but at the end of the day, they had the ball players to at least get themselves 1 or 2.  I've watched every team in this conference, and the glaring difference in William Blount is that they don't have game breakers for this level.  Not yet anyway.  They have a decent QB, a pretty good O-Line, and a RB that runs hard, but they don't have "that guy" who can change the game.  Look at 2-7, and they all have one of those.  JMO.

  7. I don't think DB is as bad as advertised on here.  I do think the wheels started coming off a little bit right after the Maryville game when they hit a little adversity that the program isn't used to hitting in the middle of the season.  It has snowballed since.  Science Hill is good, everywhere, not just the perimeter.  DB has the ball players that, if they rally the troops, can make it closer than everybody on here will think, but I'm not so sure that will happen.  DB has no business being 7th in this region.  DB will have to learn how to be ready to compete and rebound after tough losses this season onward.

  8. Good game Bearden Bulldogs. You played football they way it is suppose to be played. We had our opportunities to capitalize and didn't get it done. Perhaps we will see you again in the playoffs...who knows.

    Go Toppers!

You guys have a special team.  We were fortunate to pull that one out especially with the way your defense forced turnovers.  There was no doubt that Coach Shinlever felt the momentum shifting heavily in Science Hill's favor which is why he chose to go for two.  You guys have a great combination of size and speed all over the field.  Would love to hear your comparison between us and Jefferson County.  They scare me to death.

  9. Bearden travels to Dumplin Valley this week to take on the might Patriots.  Bearden is coming off of a big win vs. Science Hill and Jefferson County should be excited to play after a nice win against DB.  The parody in Region 1-6A is really nice to see.  Anyone from 2-7 can beat anyone on any given night.  I know there aren't a lot of Bearden or Jefferson County fans on coacht, so maybe others can give some insight on how they feel this game will go.

    Who you got?

  10. Science Hill at Bearden

    Dobyns-Bennett at Jefferson County

    William Blount @ Hardin Valley

    Bradley Central @ Maryville

    I go with:

    Science Hill,

    Dobyns-Bennett,

    Hardin Valley

Maryville. (much as I hate to)

As much as I want you to be wrong, I'd say you're right on.  The team most likely to pull the upset being Jeff County, unless they've cashed it in for the season.

  11. Congrats to the Bears last night.  Haven't seen the Hawks since week 3, but they were impressive at skill positions. Like I said in another thread, how they're 4-4 is really surprising to me.  I had a feeling you guys would be able to throw the ball on them, as we had success, but your defense really stepped up it seems.

  12. I realize the majority of the rest of this thread will be directed at conversation around GC, but I just wanted to let the DB faithful know that their facilities and football environment are unlike any other.  I wouldn't hate coming to DB every single year.  Appreciate the hospitality from the fans.  Good luck the rest of this season.  Go Dawgs.

  13. Looking forward to heading up that way to Kingsport this Friday.  I've been excited for this game since the schedule came out.  Didn't really think this game would mean as much as it does for playoff seeding like it does now, but maybe we'll bring a large group of fans up to watch.  Maybe all of the DB kids will give up this week so that our boys have a shot at pulling the upset.
