Alcoa is on spring break right now, as are many schools. But I've heard that a coaching change is imminent at this point. I would expect an announcement soon after school starts back up in the next week or two.
In truth, Alcoa had to do it. This is not a reflection on Kirk as a person, but it can't be ignored that Alcoa has regressed since he took over. The Alcoa job is a big deal, so I'm sure several solid coaching candidates will apply for it. I'm interested to see what direction they choose to go next.
Will they pursue Raul Placeres like another poster mentioned? Or will they look for a current successful high school coach?

You think its me!!!! Well I'll be dog gone ScottR77. I'm kidding, every one has their opinion. Who would be possible replacements at Alcoa IF a change is made. And like Catholic, Oak Ridge played those young kids as freshmen and sophomores too.
Not sure about candidates yet.
-
Maybe its me but I think Joel Kirk does a good job at Alcoa. He had a really young team and they were competitive. I know Catholic plays a lot of young kids but the difference is Catholic played those kids as freshman and took their lumps. Alcoa had a lot of seniors last year and most, if not all of the current players even played (except for Anderson). Alcoa plays a really tough schedule as well. Next year Alcoa will be a tough team to play with.
I think it's just you. As I said in my previous post, Oak Ridge was young too, and look what they have done this year. I think a change is coming at Alcoa.

My point is simple. Talent was there. Bull had developed it. He went thru the growing pains of playing those guys as freshman and sophomores. Not saying Boilstone hasn't done a good job. What I am saying is the process now starts over with far less talented Freshman and Sophomores coming up. Don't think considering all the issues this past year he will be willing to hang around and take his lumps.
Kirk had a similar situation at Alcoa this past year. Took his lumps with lots of young talent. Looking to reap the rewards in the future. Do you think Alcoa needs a new coach to get them over the top.
In my opinion, yes, Alcoa does need a new coach if they want to contend for championships of any kind. I'm sure Kirk is a good person, but he is not what Alcoa needs. Alcoa might have been young, but Oak Ridge was too, and look what they have done this year. Alcoa was young sounds more like an excuse from Kirk than anything to cover for himself.
From what I heard, Alcoa will make a change after the state tournament at the latest. In reality, it's a move they just have to make. Keep an eye out for it.

Scott, what did you think of Alcoa's performance vs Carter?
I wasn't there, but from what I heard, Alcoa had every chance to win, especially when that one Carter player fouled out at the end of regulation. I know Alcoa had the lead late and someone initially told me that Alcoa had won. It sounds to me like Alcoa's coaching is to blame.

How much does Greeneville return? I know the Devils lost a lot after the 2013 season, but there didn't seem to be much of a dropoff last year.

Surely Loudon will land a good coach. Aren't they one of the winningest programs in the state?
-
Why stick around when he could get another job elsewhere? As successful as he's been, surely someone will pick him up.
-
The only sure way to stop this is to take away the ability to lose.

Sounds like a good game. I definitely wouldn't want to be playing Cosby in an elimination game, so this game is pretty significant.
-
Oak Ridge will win. Not a matter of if, but by how much. I say over 20 points.

When Alcoa played Fulton at home a few weeks ago there was no floor wiping going on that night. Fulton won by 2.
I saw that, but it sounded like coaching cost them a win in that game and several other games.
While I'm sure Kirk is well connected with Alcoa, he doesn't appear to be getting the job done. In the end, that's what matters. Sounds like he'll be gone after this year.
-
Alcoa finishes 3rd with a 60-53 win over Kingston. Very hard fought game to say the least.
If Alcoa struggled to beat Kingston with all the athletes they have, they need a new coach. Fulton or Carter will likely wipe the floor with them.
-
No doubt HVA has underachieved with the athletes they have, and I'm really surprised Farragut wasn't better than they were. I'll be surprised if one of those schools doesn't make a change.
As for the whole Alcoa thing, they have definitely underachieved this year, and with their history and tradition, I would expect them to make a change at this point.
-
Scott, you've been told all three must change about Kirk. You are so vocal about Kirk and don't mind bad mouthing him anonymously, then who in administration is saying this. Just curious
Didn't mean to come off that way, but I was just stating that it would be smart for Alcoa to go after Boydstone if a change is made. It's just a rumor I heard.
-
Agree with Hardin Valley. Golden opportunity to build a program and has failed miserably.
Coach at Carter has a History of moving around. Seldom stays anywhere very long. Also as stated talent level will be at an all time low next couple of years.
Alcoa is experiencing one of their worst seasons in recent history. Folks in Alcoa can't be happy.
Boydstone probably can't do much at Carter with all the Knox County politics involved. I could definitely see him going to Alcoa. With all the athletes, he would be a great fit there.
-
With the athletes they have they should adopt the style Carter runs. Saw where they lost to Carter 110-91.
I absolutely agree.
-
What will it take to win again at Alcoa? Style change? Politics? Discipline?
I've been told all 3 need to change. If Alcoa does make a coaching change, there will be several solid applicants for sure.
-
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......what???
I seriously doubt that.
I doubt it too, he's been there only 2 years and has a young team.
The source I heard said that if Kirk doesn't turn things around in the district or region tournament, the Alcoa administration will most likely make a change in the next 2-3 weeks. Just what I heard.
-
he won't and SM will have a lot of applications...now, somewhere down the road AC may go there
I hope things work out between Caine and Sequatchie County. So far, he seems to be the right fit.

You're a Central fan, so of course you want Kirk to stay at Alcoa, as would most of Alcoa's competition. If Alcoa lands a solid coach, they'll be dangerous, so the competition wants Alcoa to stay down. Tony Jones might not have been the best hire, but the Kirk hire was worse.
Raul Placeres would have been a much better hire than Tony Jones, and according to another poster, that's the direction they were going to go before Tony Jones. Will they go that direction again?
