Cleveland will be patient with their offense. I dont think they will stall, but take good shots when they present themselves.

Cleveland is better than people think! Don’t be shocked if they hang around and don’t think that they have no chance. Wood and Johnson can completely control the game. They are definitely underdogs - yes. But this is a terrific group of guards that can handle the ball and really shoot it well. Good luck to the guys from Cleveland.

Find out through the TSSAA they will answer any and all questions.I called them in 2007 about transferring my son because everyone had an opinion and i didnt want to cause ANY issues with his new team. Its just added insurance.Anyone can read these rules and get a different perspective of the meaning. In my opinion if the kid ISNT ON THE VARSITY ROSTER AND DOESNT PLAY OR DRESS with the varsity and there is 0 chance he will, there shouldnt be an issue but if there is that chance its worth a call.So many innocent teammates are punished because of selfish parents and coaches.

I do know for a fact if he is listed on the varsity roster he CANNOT play rec league ball.like i said earlier we had two suspended during the season of 2010 for this very act and the only played JV at the time.

Yes! Always best to call TSSAA and document the conversation. Interpretation of rules ends up being the opinion of those involved and the hope of the outcome being in their favor. NEVER trust a Rec league or even an AAU coach's opinion. I love what most coaches do to help kids develop and compete but some are very selfish and use kids for their talent. Call TSSAA!

  3. 100 year old argument. The rule is as shown. Opinions have always varied depending on a kid's role and potential future in the HS program. May shock some folks that I would say this, but IMO the HS season should be for HS ball ONLY and the AAU (or even Rec) season its own. I don't like the crossover of either.

I'm also a proponent of multiple sport athletes not "focusing" on just one sport. If a kid plays football and basketball or baseball or all 3, how is he supposed to juggle all that is almost "required" to be successful and remain a part of the teams he is a part of? I wish a season was designated and there was no interference from the others. Never gonna happen though.....

Rolling shorts is not necessary. Teams can get shorts that fit. The style now is to wear smaller shorts. When I played 94-98 and continuing through the 2000's oversized was the "style" now the style is to wear shorts small. This is why all of the sleeves, undershirts, headbands etc.. have been regulated. People take it too far. The only thing the refs and higher-ups need to say is the drawstring being exposed as a safety hazard.

Basketball's one area of individuality has been shoes. There is a major subculture and mini-economy just for basketball shoes.

It would seem that TSSAA and NFHSS would have better things to do...................... No Safety issues, No Advantage gained....What's all the fuss about? Let's just play ball!

Sub-state team last year.... return almost everything from that team...

You can take this for what it's worth as well... Lebanon beat Blackman and Riverdale in team camps this summer...

Looks like a pretty good list to me. Lots of Hatin on Lebanon. Not sure why?

East Hamilton has good talent. Could make some noise in our area. Bradley lost the best player in the State, but always seem to be in the mix. Seems strange to see Riverdale in any spot other than the top? Does summer camp ball count? How did other schools look over the summer?

I saw Arlington and Houston at East Ham last year. Lots of serious talent on both.

Summer and Exposure ball is winding down and High School ball is right around the corner.......

What is your top 10 GCPioneer? Is AAA really "wide open?"

Penny just signed two more recruits. A 4-star and a top JUCO player. The U of M has one more scholarship left. He's getting it done on the recruiting trail.

Antwann Jones and Isaiah Maurice sign with Memphis basketball, Penny Hardaway

Was there ever any doubt? Penny will have a great 2 year run on the recruiting trail. After that, his recruiting will be heavily impacted good or bad by 3 things:

    1. Is he producing NBA draft choices?

    2. Won / Loss record

    3. NCAA tournament appearances

I'm personally hoping Penny is really successful and U of M is back in the top 25!

    Go Tigers

  7. Penny's ability to coach at the NCAA div. 1 level is a question mark. None of us know- we can all speculate. I'll go on the record as one who believes he should be given the opportunity at Memphis. He is a terrific alum and has done a great job at the HS and AAU / Exposure levels. Those are very different animals than going up against conference teams and achieving the goal of getting back in the National picture. Penny will attract high level talent in his first 2 years as young fellas will think this is their path to the NBA with a proven legend. After the first 2 years, we will all know if he "CAN COACH."

  8. Living in this area and reading all things basketball (all levels) it doesn't appear to me that anyone that matters is "whining" about anything. "Grow up and get over it" ???? Who are you referring to? LOL

All I have read indicates that a 17 year old girl was "disappointed" and used that event to get incredibly motivated after she was not selected. Seems pretty normal to me. Ms. Howard is as special of a player as there has been in this area in a long, long time. Maybe summer ball would have garnered her a couple more votes for McDonald's, but my understanding is she knew where she wanted to go to school and decided to use her summer to work on her individual skills. Her hard work is obvious to all.

And as for the "better offers" comment, would National Champion South Carolina qualify or maybe TN Lady Vols or should I go on with all those other major top tier programs that have chased her all over for 2 years only to be turned down by Ms. Howard?

She may or may not win Ms. Basketball. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is she is already Ms. Basketball. I hope she and other young folks ignore this stuff, but if you are looking in, good luck Ms. Howard. Chattanooga is proud of you. Now back to the thread about AAA "TEAM" basketball.

Any ideas on how much this job pays or could pay? Would teaching be required? I would think there will be a LONG list of applicants.

A job like this is totally negotiable. No school system with salary schedules or fixed supplement amounts. No mandatory teaching loads, etc. McCallie will get who they want and will pay whatever it takes. I look for another big name - possibly another with big time college experience.

How many did he have ? 5 points I think

Yes one did have 5, the other had 19.  24 between the two Dionte's, but obviously not enough. Congrats to the teams that have advanced. Good luck E Ham.

  11. Are they playing "AAU" currently or just AAU teams promoting the players in their programs? No legit AAU or Exposure team would compete during the High School season. That's a no no. I don't know the TSSAA rules but would never allow any of my programs to do this. Could it be Middle School Athletes?  Most MS seasons are over.

  12. I agree with Buff 100%.

Having actually done this exact situation myself, I found that some players play in a system that may not fit their game. Player A is happy at his current school, likes and respects his current coach, likes his teammates, etc. Player A is not interested in moving to get eligible, but wants to play at the next level. Maybe current system plays ball control and Player A wants to be ready for more of an up tempo style for travel ball and eventually college ball. Player A feels that Coach B has skill development that can assist him. Go for it. Just stay put at current school and don't transfer. Everyone wins.

Advantages: Player A gets better and more prepared for his dreams. Coach B giving lessons actually gains as well because this is a free scouting report on the player in the case they ever play each other.

    Alexander, Hemingway,& Howard

3 really good ones. I got to see some of the very best talent (guys and girls) at East Hamilton for the East/ West classic. On the girls side, I saw: Oak Ridge, Houston, Arlington, Notre Dame, Bradley Central and East Hamilton. It appears that all 5 of the AAA teams are top rated statewide. I saw:

Dowdle and Guinn- Oak Ridge                          Impressive team, very good defensively

Hemingway- Houston                                         May have been sick one of the games

Very Balanced team- Arlington                         Lost a couple heart breakers, but will be a tough out.

Howard - Bradley Central                                  A totally different level of player from what I saw

Hayes- East Hamilton                                         Gonna be a good one (only 10th grade)

IMO, Howard is hands down the best of this group. There may be some others I haven't seen and the best player on Riverdale's team (Alexander) is a must consider due to the national success they have every year.

    Good luck Ms. Howard...
