  1. I just watched the film of this hit. I believe if he would've attempted to go lower he may have been ok but the fact that he stayed high and kept his shoulders head high on the receiver made it a easy call. The receiver actually seen it coming and tried to protect himself a little but still received the complete blow to his head. 3 inches over and the young man couldve been sitting the Ravenwood game and more because of a concussion. i in know way believe it was cheap or even intended to injure, i just dont believe he thought about hitting lower.

My son plays defense and I love to see him stick someone hard but I like the rule because it has taught him to go lower on his hits and I don't have to worry as much anymore about him getting up after some hits. If it's your son you hope this teaches him to be careful going forward because that same hit could've injured the young man from Whitehaven very easily.

  2. First let me congratulatearrow-10x10.png Wilson Central on a fine season. Your team came in and played hard the entire game. Quarter-finals is nothing to sneeze at. You guys sent Cordova AND Franklin packing.

I want to say this to  the WIlson Central fans who made the trip down to Memphis to support their team. Thanks for coming. Thanks for hanging around after the game with your team on the field giving your guys that onearrow-10x10.png last speech between coach, players, and parents. Thanks for not running off the field afterwards as if you were escaping for your lives. I'm glad you guys felt comfortable enough after the game to mill around and leave after you've talked and regrouped. You guys didn't act as if you were in fear for your lives. Again ... thanks. I hope you thought that Whitehaven was being hospitable. I walked over to the WC side and shook hands with as many of the WC parents and players as I could just to say 'Drive home safely". I had a nice conversation with the young man who was filming the game for WC from the east end zone after the game was all over and he had packed up the gear making his way back to meet with the rest of the WC folks. He was very complimentary of the Whitehaven team.

    Officiating:

I don't know if #27's hit on #5 was an illegal hit. I thought it was a clean play. It was a hard hit. #27 did lower the boom on the young man ... I don't know if that was a defenseless man. I don't know if it was targeting either. I was told that the 30 yards awarded on that one play was a personal foul that was added after the hit. I was told that they thought that he pushed the young man back into the ground as he was gettingarrow-10x10.png up. I didn't see that. I was also on the other side of the field, so it would have ben hard for me to see that from where I was. Let me just say ... that's not that young man's character to do something like that. The hard hit ... yeah, what he was accused of doing afterwards ... no. Targeting is a difficult call to make because that young man saw the hit coming and was just trying to get small before #27 made impact. Heads drop in those situations.

What I want to know is ... will #27 be able to play in the2nd half of next weeks game as a result of being put out of the first half of this game. What is TSSAA's call on that?

Thanks, we never had a reason to leave in fear because you all made us feel comfortable. Even when the kids "gathered" in the middle of the field. Your staff had it under control. It makes me sad though that it is even an issue that is noticed. I'm sure you shook my hand but you would've never connected me with my son. I am a 50 year old short fat white man and he is not...

Being in that part of Memphis brings back a lot of memories for me. I spent my summers growing up in Potts Camp MS and since there was nothing down there we made trips up Hwy 78 to by groceries and shop or even just eat at McDonalds. A lot has changed in the last 35 years though. How long has that mall right down the street been around? It seems like we used to go there but I may be wrong.

  3. Yeah, I saw him get one interception in one of those highlights. He gives plenty of cushion but makes up gound with those long strides of his. 4 or 5 INTs isn't too shabby. He can catch I see. Somebody is going to have him play on Saturdays I would assume. 6'-4" tall playing CB? You got to have skills to do that at that size.

He made a big mistake against MJ and he has been solid ever since. Even then his mistake was a mental error. The same fake punt that they did to you all, they did to us and he didn't cover the receiver. That's really the only time I remember the coaches yelling at him this year.

  4. I see. #51 , Alex Comer is 6'-5" tall and 270 lbs. Nice pancake blocks! I also see where #4, Tyler Bowes is stout at 5'-9" and 185 lbs. I see where it says that he runs a 4.59 40 yd dash I don't doubt it because that is him pulling away from the Cordova DBs in this highlight isn't it? Impressive. I see he doesn't waste anytime in the open field ... north-south runner. You gotta love that in your dive back in the Wing-T. Then, there is #45, Jordan Hooper, running it out of the I, AND playing LB. I see he did his thin against Cordova as well. #77, Brandon Bennet has some nice size on him as well at 6'-4" and 250 lbs. Never let it be said that WC doesn't have any players.

Hooper came in and did some good things on defense the last 2 weeks as did Bowes last week.

77 and 51 have been starting on the line since they were sophomores. Hopefully you'll get to see a lot of #23. If this happens to be his last game I want him to finish well.

  5. That's right ... #6 is a junior. I'd think he will get plenty of offers. #'s 51, 4, and 45. I'll be sure to go back and look at their profiles. Well, I've already looked at #4's. He's a main cog in your Wing-T offense that you guys run. He has a low center of gravity and he's got some spped. I especially noticed how his big runs come right up the gut on quick hitters. He's a quality RB in the type of offense you guys run.

#6 is a senior #5 is a junior. # 4 is the one who made Cordova give up but #45 has been very strong recently. I would say we no longer run the wing t but the last 4 weeks they have changed something every week

  6. KWC , being a Football fan I think is very similar to being a Fisherman ... nearly everybody Fishes , but there is just a Small number of actual fishermen who know what they're really doing .... that doesn't stop ALL the fishermen from thinking they know better than everybody else .

I've sat in the Stands at Hundreds of High School Football games in my Life and it never stops amazing me how many Clueless people are out there who want to shout out their " ADVICE " to the Coaches .... even here at Maryville I've heard people who I know have never played a Down of Football questioning Coach George Quarles ... and they actually do believe they know more about Football than he does because they've watched a few Games !! Sometimes it's just best to shake your head , Laugh out Loud .... and ignore them .

I was an official a couple years ago and it amazes me how some fans can see bad calls on the other side of the field....lol My friends that set around me now wait for my reaction or they ask me why the official missed it. Unless you are there on the field trying to watch everything going on you don't know how difficult it is. Usually when I yell at an official I'm pretty specific about what he did wrong not just " bad call cmon" or my favorite, the one who's son goes held every play. They here that all game long. If you are a fan you cannot see the other side of the field well enough to complain and even if you happen to be right the official on that side has no chance to hear you yell.

  7. Yeldarb:

I haven't seen a lot of footage of WC ... just what is on HUDL, but several players stood out to me. #6 is a big DB at 6'-3" and 190 lbs. #5 is also a nice sized DB at 6'-1" and 185 lbs. Are either of those guys getting any looks from any of the colleges?

I'm not sure. #5 is a junior and his dad is an asst coach who helps some of the kids with recruiting, so I imagine he is getting some good looks. I am not a football expert but I believe he is our best player on defense. I hope #6 gets offers because he is a great kid. My wife and I probably cheer louder for him than our own son. I know that's not a good reason but that's really all I know about it.

The only ones I hear about getting looks are 51,4,and 45. Some of the others may, I just am not in that loop.

  8. The way it will be Friday nite is great compared to how it was this time last year..it was feezing!! It won't get lower than mid to low 40's...and that great for this area this time of year....and im one that hates cold weather!!!

We had to play Oakland two years ago and it was about 30. Last year my son was injured and didn't play the last 4 games but after I skipped a couple of them he gave me a guilt trip about not being a team supporter so I went to the last game at Gallatin in the snow. I lasted until the third quarter and I had to leave.

So I guess low to mid 40s will be ok. I hope you all have hot chocolate cause I can't stand coffee. I usually skip the concessions but I keep hearing how good yours is so I may need to make an exception.

  9. I see all these things said about the coaches and players on MJ team and I wonder how some of you would feel if they were talking about your child not having any talent. There are some great kids that play on that team and it is not fair to them for you all to be having this discussion. The coach is paid to coach and teach. The administration is paid to decide if they will continue to coach and teach and unless one of you are the AD or principle then your opinion doesn't matter. If you don't like the coaching or talent then don't watch them play. I don't know the coach or even have an opinion about his ability but I personally know a couple of the kids that plays on the team and they are great kids. One of them is going to play D1 football and I imagine that is a lot further than some of you saying MJ has no talent. College coaches and NFL coaches deserve this discussion but high school coaches don't deserve to be insulted like they are on coacht boards.

  10. We play way to slow to get to the mercy rule. We probably would've been there against MJ and Franklin but when you run the play clock down to single digits every snap it keeps the other team from having the ball. Against Franklin their kids had 268 yards and avg 8 yards a carry and barely got to 35. Whitehaven may beat us bad but I will be surprised if they get a running clock just because how slow we play. Add penalties to all that and it really slows down.

  11. It wasn't that we didnt know how to stop it... that young man MJ had running that jet was a pure athlete and fast as could be..when we went to MJ that first time we put nice whippin on them, but when they came to us they had a FB about 240 and that fast dude that ran down our RB from behind and stopped that TD...if yall dont have that speedster and can run that wing T better than MJ yall wont win...its not like we haven't seen it before. ...I don't know anything about WC but I know as long as Our D continues to score as they have been, winning is in our favor..

We've only had 1 pick six against us all year and that was by a lineman from 10 yards out. It's hard for defenses to score on you when you don't throw the ball.

  12. Every good team beat us in the season. According to everyone on this board we are slow and just a bad team. I guess just like the last two weeks a running clock should be expected. I will say that we should have more fans then the Cordova game. MJ student section is joining their friends at WC to form one great big student section and they are chartering a bus to come watch the game.

At the moment our defense is playing better. Cordova score 9 points in the first quarter and Franklin scored 20 in the fourth on a couple broken plays and some very sorry officiating. So we went 6 straight quarters without getting scored on. After giving up 30 in most of our games this years hat was pretty good. Whitehaven may put up 50 but we know for a while our defense was good.

  13. Well wonder whose son #23 is. According to you he is the saving grace for the central team.

Hey I'm proud of him but he's not the saving grace. Just taking him off the offensive side helped it gives the big two a lot more carries. The saving grace is that our offense passing more and making plays we need and our defense is making better tackles. i think the last few games different kids have stepped up big just like #21 did tonight. I'm just happy I get to watch #23 play another high school game. If someone hates on me because I'm proud of my son, then hate on, because I don't care. I didn't play football and he doesn't listen to me, so really what I say doesn't effect anything.

  14. Those kind are too stressful. Should've been 35 - 0 at the half but a questionable play call along with a questionable officials call on the 1 yard line cost WC 1 TD. We went 6 quarters without giving up a score Cordova score all their points in the first and Franklin scored all theirs in the 4th. Key move for WC was moving #23 from offense to full time defense and getting creative with the offense.
