I'm sure you all are very proud of your band but this old boy goes to we we at halftime and talk to the other football minded men while the band is something to keep the wives preoccupied while being gone. Kind of like a necessary evil if you know what I mean. I grew up in the day's when your dad would say son you going to suit up and hit somebody hard on Friday night or do like the sissy across the street that blows and walks around with a hat attached with a feather on his head to get into the ballgame free.

Stupidest thing I have ever read on here!

I’m a football guy too I just don’t see any reason to down a kid because they don’t play the game.

Not hating on the band, you all went from men to mice.

Why not just say that in the first place then! Our football team laid an egg last night don’t disparage 400 kids for being good at what they do. By the way not only the biggest but the best High School band in Tennessee.

    According to coach Christian:

    http://www.timesnews.net/Football/2018/08/18/Ballard-accounts-for-six-TDs-as-Greeneville-routs-D-B.html#comments

"We were able to move the ball against them, but we weren’t able to sustain our drives, whether it was a penalty, a missed block or a busted assignment. But the way we were able to move the ball was promising and I don’t think our kids quit and that’s all we can ask for.”

It really was not as bad as the final score may indicate, because the game basically came down to:

      - penalties
      - missed blocks
      - busted assignments

These are all correctible.     It will not be easy, but I could see DB rolling down to OR next week and having a wildcat sandwich..   But we'll save the X's and O's of that one for the next thread

I hate to say it but from where I sat it was that bad. I sit beside a former DB coach an old timer he stated to me that since he first sat in that seat(1967) that was the worst beating he ever saw in J Fred. It pains me To type that.

I would die or roll over in my grave if The City of Maryville had to go out replace all the signs coming into town from "Winniest Football Team in Tennessee All Time History" to"The Biggest Band in the State".

Why you hating on the band!

How would you fix it? Fix the technique? Can't make a kid who runs a 4.8 run any faster than a 4.8 boss

You just aren’t understanding this discussion, let me put it in simple terms for you if its broke for 10+ years it’s not the players!

And when you tell a kid to do that and he doesn't do it, it's bad coaching? So you should just pull him from the game and put a less talented kid in there? Or try to coach a kid who is probably un-coachable over n over until he gets it right.

It is bad coaching if it happens year after year, sorry to be the bearer of that earth shattering info!

I wouldn’t disagree with that statement but I have no dog in this fight.

Not a fight just the facts. The first thing your taught in pee wee if your playing in the D back field is never let the opposing player get behind you. I swear sometimes I think our guys have never been given this information it is truly frustrating to watch.
