1. well its starting to get close to the end of the season with the wild card game starting may 2nd.

Baylor has two cupcake games left vs. webb bell buckle and ND chatt.

Ensworth also finishes out with three weaker opponents in USN hendersonville and hillsboro..

JP2 has centennial, ND chatt and father ryan left.. if JP2 beats CHS they lock in the #1 spot in the central

centennial has two must win games to stay out of the wild card vs. JP2 and Cookeville... if centennial wins out it will look to be a 3 way tie in the district between pope, ensworth, and CHS..

cookeville also has a hard end of the year games with webb-knox tomo and CHS tuesday....

Its a topsey turbey finish with so many scenerios its ridiculous...

give an opinion or any corrections if ya got um... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

there is no wild card weekend this year. D2 is doing quarterfinal weekend. So 8 teams will make it out of the 3 divisions. Looks like in the east it will be Webb-knox, baylor, and cookeville (in some sort of order), in the central it looks like JP2, ensworth, centennial (in some sort of order) and looks like the west will only get 2 in st.benedicts and collierville.

Lot of parity this year, should be a great tourney.

  2. Looks like in D2 that the west maybe a little weaker than the east and central. April will be interesting when the east teams start playing each other and a team like Baylor has to play Centennial and JP2.

Right Now looks like 4 good teams in the East: Cookeville, Baylor, West Knox, and Webb-Knox

Central looks like Centennial, JP2, and Ensworth will fight it out.

    But it is still early.

D1 looks like the same teams are dominating.

McCallie looks like the frontrunner in the East with MBA right behind or maybe just as good, followed by Ravenwood and Farragut, it will be interesting to see how good Farragut is.

The west looks like MUS all the way but Im sure CBHS and USN will improve as the season continues and it will be interesting to see how newcomer Brentwood does.

  3. Wonder if the D2 winner will move up to D1 next year? I believe Cookeville will if they win it, and I think they have the team to win it all. The big question is will Franklin move up if they repeat, they didnt move up last year. For the good of the sport both the winner and runner up should move up.

Prediction: cookeville over Brentwood by 4

    Franklin over Collieville by 3

    Cookeville over Franklin by 1

D1: McCallie in a shocker over Ravenwood by 1

    MBA over MUS by 2

And MBA repeats by 2 goals over McCallie

Thought the board needed some spice, its been quiet on here lately.

  4. Another thought, instead of the talk of having 1 division, why not do a third division. That way you would have all of the start up and second year teams a division where there would be competive with eachother and you wouldn't have the 26-0 blow outs.

Third Division may not be a bad idea (the problem is that D1 maybe small). What I mean is that the state is very top heavy with the about 6 programs (there are about 4 programs in D1 that stay somewhat competitive, but realistically have no shot a D1 title, but if they were in D2 they would have a real shot at a title).

IF the TSLA really wanted to level the playing field as much as possible.

    D1 would have a bout 6 teams

D2 would have about 12 teams

    D3 would have about 10-12.

then from year to year you may have a team or 2 move up from D2 to D1 and a couple moving up from D3 to D2, and having new teams move into D2.

    Just a thought.

  5. QUOTE(lax4life32 @ Apr 1 2007 - 02:54 PM) 826427659I know they are different but they arent that much different the same guys that are scoring this year scored last year and yes they have developed their skills somewhat from what they were last year but not as much as everyone says and the goalie is better but he was ver good last year and was underrated. Also i think DII this year is weaker than it has been in past years.

I dont think Division 2 is any weaker than last year. Yes there are at least 3 new teams, but that is what Division 2 is designed for (to grow the sport of lacrosse). Therefore it seems like Franklin should have moved up this year to D1. I know it is to late now, but I hope they make the right decision next year and move up especially if they win back to back state titles.

Its nice to see that they are doing so well, but winning by an average of 13 goals a game, c'mon. That is not helping them or the other D2 teams. If they were in D1 the players would be getting even better, plus at the end of the year they maybe up for better post season awards, and the team could be in the D1 fianl 4 and not the D2 final 4.

It will be interesting to see how they do the 4 D1 games, but I think they will win 3 of 4, and if they do I think that needs to be the last proof that they need to move up.

  6. QUOTE(lax4life32 @ Mar 30 2007 - 05:44 PM) 826426765sure is and they lost 23-0 to west knox a few weeks ago and 2-17 to cookeville but they did beat signal mountain 7-5 (franklin's jv beat singnal mountain varsity 12-2)

If Franklin is so good, why aren't they in Division 1. It seems like the TSLA should look into that.

  7. I know its late and the championship is already over and everything. But how did CBHS only beat webb by one point? Did cbhs paly horribly or did webb play incredibly well?

    825675449

Webb probably played pretty well. They had a lot of close games this year. Although they are a much smaller school than a lot of the other teams in the league, they always have some talented players. They have 3 players playing in college right now (2 @ Hampden-Sydney, VMI) 2 more on the way (Roanoke, Greensboro).

  8. Numbers alone should not be a very big part of the decision without consideration of the kind of games the numbers came from.  Putting up 6 or so points against a division 2 or a lesser team is not as impressive as 3 or 4 against a much better team.  Scoring alot in a 15-0 game does not indicate that a player is as good if he had put up points in a good close game.  While some of the aforementioned players in the post may be leading the state in points, hopefully the coaches at the conference will consider the quality of the wins and the games.

Every team has played some D-2 teams and a lot of the top point leaders in D-1 have put up big numbers against those teams. Those same players (top point leaders) have put up big numbers against tough D-1 teams. Basically the top point leaders are all quality players.

Some schools that have lack of quality depth will have players on thier team with lopsided numbers. Teams like Webb, USN, Farragut, Father Ryan dont have as much depth as teams like MUS, MBA, McCallie, CBHS. That what makes the things those players (on the temas of Webb, USN, Ryan, Farragut)do so special.

The top few players of these schools can compete with the top players of the "Big 4". The Big 4 just have more goood players.

  9. What happens if USN defeats CBHS this weekend? There would be a 3 way tie for 2nd place (CBHS, Houston, USN). MUS is already the 1 seed. Who would get the 2nd and 3rd seed? Does anyone know the tie-breaker, and please tell me it is not a coin toss.

  10. anything can happen, so we'll have to see what happens under the lights at spears stadium. Webb gave a pretty good Farragut team a pretty good game.  There is no reason that McCallie should go into the game expecting anything other than a tough game

    825650740

Webb hasnt played Farragut, they play them saturday the 23rd.

Webb has played well against MBA and CBHS.

  11. Here is an update on some TN alums near the end of the regular season:

Matt McIntosh - played in three games for the 4-7 Tar Heels. Have to win the ACC to advance to postseason.

Cyrus Adams - 27 goals and 3 assists  in 9 games for the 7-2 16th ranked Diplomats. Beating Gettysburg  will greatly improve chances of tournament play but should go regardless. Shooting 53% with 90% on goal.

Jimmy McMahon - 4 goals and 2 assists  in 11 gamesfor 7-4 Greensboro. Also 14-33 on face offs

Clint Brakebill - Out for the season with an injury at Towson. Beating Hofstra and winning CAA tournament is probably the #14 Tigers only chance at the Tourney.

Chip Baucum - 17.91 GAA with 25 saves in 4 games for Pfieffer

Binz Hansen - 14 goals and 2 assists in 13 games while shooting 27% for Goucher

Eamon Thornton - 14 goals and 2 assists in while shooting 37% with 54% on cage in 10 games for the 7-4 HSC Tigers. Playoffs are probably out of the picture unless they win ODAC Tourney.

Dalton Grein - 1 goal and 2 assists in 8 games for #15 HSC

Thomas Jennings - 23 goals and 5 assists while shooting 46% with 69% on cage for HSC

Murray Webb - Player in 2 games for the 7-4 #15 HSC Tigers

Carter Powers - 12 goals and 1 assist while shooting 50% with 83% on goal for 3-4 MIT.

Jason Rudolph - 1 goal and 4 assists in 9 games for 10-0 #2 Limestone

Matt Hill - no points while playing in 9 games for 5-5 VMI

Matt Turner - Yet to appear for 5-5 VMI

Redtwin, This is very cool of you to post this info. Keep up the good work.

Jennings and Adams are having amzing seasons. Tennessee players can play lax.

  12. I thought the Farragut vs. USN game got cancelled due to the storms, but Laxpower reports Farragut winning 15-8, then USN lost to Houston by 1 goal.

What is wrong with USN? OR is Farragut and Houston that good?

    Did Farragut play MBA yesterday?

  13. Thomas Jennings was/is one of the best players Tennessee has produced. He is super fast and is a great competitor. He must know how to find the back of the goal as well if he is scoring 4 goals in back to back games vs. Top 10 D-III teams. I would say he is not to shabby.

Was Thomas Jennings that good? I played against him only one season, and he was extremly fast but (if i recall correctly) mostly righty... or has he just been working real hard on his game

    825631223

  14. Webb is a very small school, and they usually do not have a lot of depth. But there top couple of players are ususally really good. Look at Thomas Jennings at Hampden-Sydney. Webb also had a goalie play at Navy started a couple of games a couple years back. They have a defenseman at H-S and a middie at VMI.

There are only 100 boys 9-12 grade and Webb has (Baseball, Tennis, Soccer and Lax) in the Spring.

Plus Webb may surprise some teams this year.

  15. Dont forget about Matt Hill (Junior @ VMI), he is from Murfreesboro, TN and is a Webb Graduate. He played in all of VMI's games last year and will most likely do that again this year. He is on the first line as short-stick D midfielder.

  16. Coach Bloom (Webb) went to Franklin and Marshall.

Just for reference here are some of the coaches credentials in the league:

    MUS:

    Coach Dent: Hampden Sydney

    Coach Dimento: Air Force

    Others i don't know about

    McCallie:

Coach Kemp: Football and Lacrosse at Colgate

    USN:

    Coach Gould: ?

    Coach Douglass: Princeton

    MBA:

    Coach Cooper: Washington College/Hartwick

    Coach Yanicky: Notre Dame

    Coach Harvey: UVA

    Webb:

    Jon Bloom: W&L (I think)

Those are just the ones I can remember off of the top of my head. Feel free to chime in.

    MUS

    CBHS

    USN

    Ryan

    Houston

    MBA

    MCCallie

    Webb

    Farragut

  18. CBHS or Webb have to be pretty high up there.  I'm not sure how graduation was on christian bros, but im pretty sure that webb didnt have any seniors last season.  CBHS is always a decent program, and as young as Webb was last season, they should do some damage these next couple of years.

    825581632

I would have to agree with you, both these teams were young last year. Although Webb is a small school, if they can stay healthy they can usually play real hard.

CBHS always has some decent athletes.
