1. Thank you for the clarification..................it's CLEAR AS MUD! LOL

I like football and LOVE watching high school football but that's about it. BASEBALL & SOFTBALL is really MY sport! LOL and I can't wait for my son to play in High School......football and baseball!

    Thanks!

    CONGRATULATIONS PHS SENIORS!!!

John Simpson, John Vasser, Josh Holt, Josh Lewis, Jacob Harper, Cody Redburn, Chais Wallsmith, Clark Allen, Adrian Morgan, Patrick Cayson, Trent Donaldson, Kable Hunt and Matt Cox

  2. I am EXTREMELY proud of the Peabody Tidemen!!! You made the dawgs work hard for the win. Koodos to Milan for hanging tough and not giving up.

Just a note or two and a question:

Looked like PHS made the touchdown early in the 1st quarter to me......or was I just seeing what I wanted to see? (before the two that put points on the board)

WHAT IS CONSIDERED Pass interference? PHS #83 was in the air to catch the LONG pass for a first down in the 4th and a milan player hit him--while in the air. I've never "gotten" when the call was made and why it's made. Can someone shed some light on this?

Other than those two plays, I thought the game was called pretty fairly.

  3. surprising.....great win for westview

Trenton Peabody did not play their best game last night, probably their worst.

I think being on fall break for two weeks has had a lot to do with how our guys have played the past 2 games. Yes, they've had practice, but they are out of their normal routine. No getting up and getting to school, working your brain, eating right, etc.

What are some of your thoughts about that? Especially coaches and players.

  4. Score one for Tullahoma.

Ok, so.....the only thing proven on this board is that everyone thinks their band is best (as they should) and everyone has an opinion. I actually think there are many GREAT bands in TENNESSEE and each band has different strengths and weaknesses and even those vary from year to year.

Tennessee is known throughout the country for it's music heritage and I believe we have High School music programs to thank.....not to mention the band directors who have dedicated COUNTLESS hours to make each program a SUCCESS.

So what do you say we end this board by giving a big thumbs up to TENNESSEE MUSIC!

BY THE WAY.............ONE WEST TN BAND DIRECTOR RECEIVED "WBBJ-TV TEACHER OF THE WEEK" TODAY. Tune in to WBBJ-TV at 11:30 am, 5:00pm, 6:00pm and 10:00 pm for details! Congratulations Mr. B!

  5. Just a question of curiosity here...Where did the name Peabody originally come from? I`m assuming it was someone`s name. If so who was it? Thanks

    History of Peabody High School

    by Gary Blankinship

Education in Trenton began in 1823 when the Trenton Male Academy was formed. This was followed in 1842 by the addition of the Trenton Female Academy. In 1852, the Trenton Male Academy was replaced by Andrew College, which was sponsored by the Methodist Episcopal Church of Trenton. In 1875, Andrew College was burdened with debt and it was to be replaced by a public school.

In 1875, the public school was organized and went into operation in 1876. The founder and first principal was Professor Gentry R. McGee. Through Professor McGee’s efforts, Trenton received funds from the “George Peabody Fund For Southern Schools.” George Peabody had been a philanthropist from Massachusetts. In gratitude, his name was given to the school. Professor McGee served for 25 years as the head of the school. McGee was probably best known as the author of A School History of Tennessee that was used as a textbook for years across our state. The first graduating class of Peabody was in 1879 with three graduates.

In 1917, a new building was completed which is now the central part of “Old Peabody”. In 1931, a new gymnasium was added. A fire in 1944 destroyed the gymnasium and auditorium. A complete remodeling began in 1945. The new gymnasium was finished in 1947. Also, a new Agriculture Building was added and the new auditorium was finished in 1951. In 1965, the school began integration and was completely integrated by 1970.

On January 4, 1980, the new Peabody High School was opened where Trenton’s long tradition in education continues.

  6. This season, as in the past several seasons, Peabody has about 10 young men who play football and perform in the marching band.....a testament to a coach and band director who work together as well as tremendous dedication put forth by the guys who do it......I don't know how they manage, but they do. They are under a lot of pressure from their peers, coaches and band directors as they are expected to give 100% to both activities. The band players do not perform at away games, however, but they change into a clean jersey and remove their pads for home game halftime shows. They travel with the band and perform at all contests, and they are a valuable assest to both programs. We are fortunate to belong to a school whose goal it is to develop well-rounded students and integrate pride in their school as a "team"...encompassing all of their activities together - not seperate entities.

P.S. PEabody won their game against USJ (14-13) last night in part because our kicker made both of our field goals, something USJ was unable to do to tie the game......our kicker is also a band captain and a member of our percussion section.

WELL PUT TIDE MOM!!! GO #4!!! LOL I'd like to also mention that 2 years ago a young man started for the Tidemen, was in the band AND maintained a 4.0 GPA! He received a full ride to Knoxville....oh and even got a huge roll in a Sub-Way commercial!!!!!! ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

  7. I don't understand why they make such a big deal out of smoking in the stands. Not that many people do it, and we are in the great outdoors for goodness sake. I see plenty other things people need to focus their attention on rather than who is smoking in the stands. Don't get me wrong, my husbands smokes and I hate the smell, but it is the outdoors.

We make a big deal out of it because when you are seated next to, above or behind a smoker you tend to get a face full/lungs full of 2nd hand smoke. Those of you who are not affected by 2nd hand smoke will not understand. I get a headache which triggers a severe migraine. Then I'm congested for about 2 days. You also have the risk of burning someone, which I've seen happen! Just a few reasons for making a big deal out of it. <_<

  8. Not sure whether to say fortunately or unfortunately....but they have that right....that choice------BECAUSE OF OUR VETERANS! Too bad they don't get it! Perhaps they would get it if their daddy was gone for over 12 months to a violent filled country like my children's daddy has been. I'm not a veteran, but my husband is...as this is his 2nd tour and I have to tell you it offends me when people do not at least stand to honor our flag...........OUR COUNTRY. It also offends my children. Just this year some guys were cutting up and laughing during the National Anthem at a football game....my daughter heard them and afterwards she marched down there and told them she would appreciate it if they would stand quietly while that song is being played! You go GIRL!!!!

So for those of you who do not stand..........you have that right, but stop and think how and why!

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  9. Geeze.....I had to quit reading! Seminole.....I am glad that you are behind the Tide, but come on............Peabody and Gibson County ARE big rivals, but you don't HAVE to "hate" them!!!!! When you have hate on your brain.....hate will be on your tongue.....which means you tend to say things before you think and then have to apologize for your words or actions.

Sorry for the lecture......"hate" is NOT one of my favorite words. Actually, I encourage my kids NOT to use that word.

And for the record...........the '05 Peabody Tide are excited about their wins, but they take one week at a time and they won't take any team lightly! Most of us/them are not going to "predict wins" through week 10........but we definitely stay positive and work HARD for every game!!!

    ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!

  10. I know all you guys think about football 24/7 these days, but I'm thinking that these "star athletes" that all of you are talking about are not going to be as focused on football as they were two weeks ago. I mean, I'm thinking that they are going to have so much rushing through their mind........lost home, lost school, lost friends......nothing left of "HOME" and it's going to be difficult for them to "FOCUS" on their game. Yes, young men and women tend to bounce back from things quicker than adults, but I'm affraid this is going to have a lasting effect on them. However; I hope they all get back into school and try to get on with their lives the best they can.

By the way.......there ARE around 1,000 people who came into the Gibson County area this past Saturday.

  11. I copied this from the Title IX question and answer page:

"Does Title IX apply to booster clubs and other types of (similar) support for athletic teams?"

"Yes. If the school permits an individual or group to donate funds for the benefit of a specific gender or sport, it must also make sure that benefits and services are equivalent for both sexes. "

So , I dont know if it would apply to something like a pressbox but certainly it would apply to the fact if the baseball team was built really nice fields,  facilities, stands, indoor batting cage, etc.... and the girls softball team was funded inadequately and was not allowed to have facilities or use what was built. If the boys facilities were built on school property it would not matter who funded it , the school or booster club.

Title nine was a great thing when it passed. Up until that point girls were really discriminated against. Still, with Title IX intact serious infractions exist at our high schools. I mean how many of you know of "weight rooms " and "batting cages" that exist at our local high schools that the girls are not allowed to enter or use? What about  state of the art baseball fields with concession stands and bathrooms and every ammenity when the girls softball field at the same school has nothing. While it is true, these girls and parents need to raise money to "fix " thier fields , what about those whose parents kill themselves making repairs and improvements but still the inconsistency exists?

We are making strides, and I am glad Hixson is getting a field that is not always flooded. They are  a great group of girls with what seem to be great parents.

can you give me the exact website for this information?

  12. You know, I would NEVER go about this title IX thing if I knew it would hurt our boys teams, but at our school it can't hurt them because they already have EVERYTHING! We would not be taking anything from them!

Our football team has a football stadium with a fieldhouse for game night and they have a brand new practice field with a brand new weight room. (which I'm glad they have!)

Our boy's soccer team and our girls soccer team share a field. (that's ok too, even though softball existed at PHS way before those two did)

Our baseball team has a BEAUTIFUL field with lights, concession stand, bleachers, and a brand new score board (which was donated by Burks Beverages).

Our softball team has NOTHING! They have to play at the city park and share the field with the public and the t-ball teams. We have to get it ready at the beginning of the year with NO help from the city. We once asked for help to make repairs to the infield but they refused. We buy ALL the chalk, we drag the field and we maintain all year until our season is over.

There is NO way our school is in compliance with title IX!

Does this sound fair to any of you?

  13. What are some facts about this. Our softball team does not have a field of their own. They have to play on the tee ball field at the public park. Our baseball team has their own field, the football team has a field plus a brand new practice field with a new field house. The soccer teams have their own field and soccer hasn't even been in our school as long as softball.

This wouldn't be such an issue, but we once had to forfeit a district championship game (2 years ago) because the tee ball teams had a game and they insisted they had the right to get the field next.

Yes, it happend. I still cannot believe it! So I'm interested in information on "Title 9" because I've heard people speak of it and I don't know where to start.

Can any of you give me information on this and tell me where to start.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  14. You are a wise mother (fan) to commend Nic for his accomplishments but please throw him a party when he shows good sportsmanship as this is more important than his prowess on the court.  Just send me the bill, I wont to pay for half of the blowout  as I want encourage him too--esp. in this area of life.

Our kids need encouragement but especially good role models.  Hope all our coaches are reading.

Best Wishes to entire Family

You are obviously stuck on this whole Nicchaeus thing, but you really should move on! By they way.....you can send your money in care of Peabody High School, Trenton, TN and we will throw him a BIG party because he deserves every award he's received whether YOU think so or not!!!! That is if you still WANT to.

  16. Oh My Gooddness will people ever quit hating on Nicchaeus Doaks

The CLASS A Mr. BASKETBALL is The most Hated basketball player in Tennessee

this kid had all kind of high majors looking at him Auburn, Miami, W.Kentucky, UAB, but he chose Chatt-town over them. 6'7 220pound beast and is rank in the top 10 players in the state, alot of people don't think he's that good. WHY???????

just ask the coaches of the other teams. if he's not that good why did he get doubled and tripled team every single night.

When he was a sophmore everybody hated on him cause all he wanted to do was shoot threes and dunk.

Now every hates on him cause he does shoot the three, why shoot the three when you can easily get to the hole on dunk on the full team. Ask Coach Shulman of UTC, ask that man what kind of player DOAKS is. Tyler Ramsey can't even hold Doaks's Jock. His coach made him play the post he is not a post player He does have to play the post. Rumor is that if he bust is tale in practice he has an excellent shot to be in the Starting 5 as a freshmen(even if he does that still wouldn't satisfy his haters)Everyone who's ever seen Doaks really play i'm not ever talking about in a high school game you will clearly see how good he really is.

and yes his vertical is over 40 inches who ever don't believe that stand under the rim and see what happens, or measure it for yourself

Didn't Nicchaeus Doaks win The Mr.Basketball Award and the award says "most outstanding high school player in tennesse TSSAA Division I-A

People please quit hating and give this guy some props please.

    825630258

While I agree with you, I wish you'd not even started this thread.

  17. I don't understand why he was even a contender for Mr. Basketball.  He was suspended for two games this season as I understand it.  That should have automatically disqualified him for an honor like Mr. Basketball.  I believe that honor should encompass not only skills and grades, but sportsmanship.  He demonstrated, very vocally, to the Middleton fans his unsportsmanlike behavior.  And by the way, our boys DID stop you!

    825630296

I don't think you stopped anyone. If you are a Middleton player, which I doubt you are, you merely outscored Peabody on that particular night. You by no means stopped anyone! Middleton had to play hard, it didn't come easy and Doaks was a part of that. You of all people haven't a clue about Doaks sportsmanship.
