South Greene and Cumberland Co. lost last night. My initial post to start this thread, I had neither in my Top 5. Their level of competition and strength of schedule has always been suspect in their district. Great season from both programs to say the least. Hate to say it, but Class AA State Tournament just became a lot more watered down after last night.

Here's my new Top 5 headed in to the Region Finals. Help on 6-8 please!

    1.) Upperman

    2.) Westview

    3.) East Nashville

    4.) Macon Co.

    5.)  Cheatham Co.

    6.) ?

    7.) ?

    8.) ?

Watered down???? Maybe you just need to get out a little more. Maybe instead of watered down its way more competitive than you think. South Green and Cumberland played soft schedules to get Ws and Greenville picked it up so did the best 2 teams win last night? YES, if everyone believed pre-season crap then why would we even play the game. Those 2 teams that won got better as the season went. To say its  watered down is a slap in those 2 teams faces. Wouldnt suprise me if Macon wins Wednesday night. Its not an upset to the winner.

More local kids need to do actual research. Look at a team's roster. Compare big school A against small school B. Big school A (D1) is gonna sell you on the history and the chance to be on a great team. That's good, until you get there and see reality that you probably won't play, plus your scholarship isn't what you thought it was. Small school B (D2/NAIA) has little depth at your position, a chance for you to play right away and a full-ride paying NO money back after you graduate. But kids will pick Big School A because it looks good to people around them. And that needs to stop.

    AMEN, finally some common sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

South Greene figures to be in the glass house at the end of the year however there won’t be any cupcakes for them.  You’ll have the defending state champion Upperman Lady Bees with Ms Basketball  Kiara Levy, Cumberland County and Westview waiting on them.  All 3 teams are currently undefeated and there won’t be 5 losses between all 3 teams this year.  Having said all of that South Greene is pretty darn good as well!  Those should be your final 4 teams if it all plays out like it should.

Dont know too much about Cumberland and Westview waiting on them. Cumberland or Upperman will have to go through Mcminn Central or Meigs to get there at their place. Tough places to win.

This game was one of the worst officiated games I've been to.

Why? Cause Meigs won? CMON if you watched the game you would have seen what happened. The HV coaching staff took all momentum away from their team. Would have been a little different if they had just coached the game. Meigs still wins but might have been a little closer. The difference in the game was Meigs #46. What a differnce he made, GREAT player.  Just not very classy there at the end. HV has alot of good players. #10, and #44 are fighters. Good luck tigers.

He did charge the kids a fee to play. Even in his own tournament!

You have got to be kidding me! To play in their own high school gym? Unbelievable!!! No way should he be doing that, no way. The school board should be notified. Its a real shame that you have to pay to use a taxpayer facility. He does not own the gym. The taxpayers do.

Even the least educated coaches know you can"t bring middle school kids up to practice with your high school team til school is over. If your varsity head high school coach has organized this then I would be watching out for other types of misconduct. Seems like a win at all cost type system. Wonder if there was money involved? More times then not, these type of coaches are using kids to make money for themselves . If you know one of these kids parents, ask them about the fee it cost to play with the high school girls while they were still in middle school.

Oh i think he knew and should be watched for further misconduct. As far as the fee, if there was one that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Charging your own kids to play in their own high school gym. If a coach is making money off of kids is one thing but making it off his own, well thats just not right.  If hes requiring kids to pay that to play thats just a form of extortion. If this is true, a phone call to a school board member would be the thing to do.

From what I read on here no school employee can coach players from their school during the no practice time. Plus bringing in middle schoolers to play with them is even a bigger violation. Also hearing the school employee was the AD and a former girls basketball coach who was asked to do all this by the head girls coach Tony Williams. And it was done under his aau flagship called fast break . This is not hard to figure out. There is a reason tssaa says no school employee can do this. If you could coaches would have practice year around and invite all the best middle schoolers. Like i said before, if this was a private school the middle schoolers would be ineligible and tssaa would throw the book at them.

Wow, this ruling just opens the door for more coaches to do the same thing. No punishment really. High school coaches shouldnt be allowed to dictate where and when a kid should play. A good coach should want their kids to play anywhere not just where he says to. No way should he be allowed to coach any team other than his high school team. Ive been around a long time and i have seen this happen alot.

Looks like the TSSAA will have a lot to say about this. I heard that CHS is 'self-reporting' this. Wonder how much of the 'facts' will be truly presented. They know the rules (or should know the rules) about this. If they don't then they need to have a new AD and girls' coaching staff this season.

    WOW just WOW!
