I can assure you no one from MC has said anything about this being a "blowout"! We will prepare for Forrest just like we would any other team. The kids and coaches determine the blowouts not us old farts on Coach T..

I never said Kirkendoll was an average player. I have always maintained he was a very good player. You boys were saying talking about the other kid on offense and I always said he was a solid player, nothing more and nothing less. He has definitely stepped up his game this season. This is a good honor for the kids, but the SP kids through the years that haven't won this award made me quit believing in it. Eddie Moore, Robert Robinson, Raquis Hale didn't win it. It lost its luster for me after that.

 

1-3A is a big stretch. If they are then both will be playing big time college football very soon.

Well I can tell you this, both these boys are smart enough in the classroom to play wherever they so choose. Not many from the 2a level play "big time ball", I'm not implying that. All I'm saying is these two and others on this team are more than average ball players.

1a-3a is a big stretch, and I still believe you will not find any two LB's on the field at the same time that would match these two.

 

Honestly, we could've had 4 Mr. Football candidates on one team. JMO.

I garuntee you they should make this McClain boy and Kirkendoll boy get on the stage and see who can nock a hole in the other. That would tell then who the winner should be. Beerman ain't gonna agree that these two boys are the best hole nockers in the durn valley. You think im joking but im not.

Bassy, I got a question for you? Remember before the season started I said McClain and Kirkendoll are the best TWO LB's from 1a-3a. You said nah there just average ball players, just like we all used to be in high school.. of course I'm a little biased towards McClain, but I've never heard of TWO average ball players being semifinalist and now finalist for 2a Mr. Football award? I believe they both have proved to be more than average don't you? I must add that this award is also a "team" award as well as an "individual" award, both of them boys would tell you that! I hate to say "I told you so"! But..I know you would remind me of it..

Careful what you wish for.. This MC bunch is game for some smash mouth hit everyone in sight.. They feed of that, one hard hit just makes everyone else want a one up!👆 This game should be exciting for 3 quarters IF there are no turnovers!

Wish it was not true, Please pray for the family of the young man that lost his life and the young man healing physically and emotionally. And all the team mates.

Hmm, any 4a teams from that valley still playing? I will say, MC has been a dominate force in the east for a couple of years.

No 4a teams in the valley. We only have 1a South Pittsburg & Whitwell, 2a Marion County & Bledsoe County, 3a Sequatchie County. I believe that covers the "valley" teams.

Just heard that 2 Watertown football players were killed in a car wreck Saturday night? Is this true? We are praying that is not the case and this is false report.

A few thoughts about the game:

 

Defensively, Both teams played well. In the first half Forrest had a goal line stand in the first quarter and an interception on the three yard line with a minute left in the half. Second half they make an interception in the end zone as time expires. Only first half points Meigs allowed were set up by a long halfback pass.

 

Meigs County stayed in the game with special teams play. Their punter is outstanding. Punting, long Kickoff returns, and solid kickoff coverage kept field position in their favor all night.

 

Meigs County #1 is impressive - Likely the best back Forrest faced (so far). Most of his success was on one toss play in one set and the Rockets never adjusted to the formation.

 

These two may have meetings in the near future. The future for both programs is bright. Forrest started 3 freshmen and had 5 others play significant minutes. Meigs QB will be fun to watch in the coming seasons.

 

Final 5 minutes of the game were a roller coaster ride. Meigs county has a go ahead touchdown. Forrest drives deep into Meigs territory and turns it over after missing a 4th and 2 attempt with under 3 minutes to play. Meigs is forced to punt. Forrest has a good return close to midfield and takes over with less than 90 seconds and no timeouts. They connect on a big screen pass to #21 to get to the 30. Then the QB hits the apparent game winner to #8 with 28 seconds left. Meigs has a nice KO return and then on 2nd down coming after a timeout runs a trick play. Direct snap all the way across the field to #1 with nine blockers in front of him and most of Forrest's defense on the other side of the field not ready. Two seconds put back on the clock and one final play from the 15 yard line. Pass is intercepted.

 

Controversy: "The catch" Forrest ran #8 on a post route. Ball was thrown late and short. He was double covered- one on each side. He used his hands to swim one defender and jumped over the other defender to catch the ball at its highest point. He comes down with the ball and the defender starts wrestling at the ball on the ground. The same play will happen a dozen times this weekend in college and pro games and might get called PI once. No one will call it an interception.

 

Meigs penalty yards: There is no one to blame except MC. They had 3-4 offsides/false starts. One was on 3rd and 5 with Forrest deep in their own territory. One was on a 38 yard FG attempt which made it a 33 yd attempt (this proved to be the difference in the game).

 

One holding call was downfield and led to a 2nd and 10. One holding call set up a 1st and 26 which they converted on a nice pass to #23 which led to the go ahead score.

 

Multiple Personal foul and unsportsmanlikes sealed their fate. The refs did not call everything. A handful of other activity from Meigs did not get flagged.

 

Overall, exciting hard fought game that gave me my money's worth.

Thanks for the clarification... If we pick up Whitwell and SC, SP will not be the only challenge we have next year..

Backs are much better than in 2015. Last year's success on offense was because of senior offensive line play. This year the team is still having success with a smaller, younger line because they have five different runners that are better than last year's starters. Next year the team should have both, experienced line and very good backs.

I agree, in part... looks like to me you have 4 good backs #6,8,23,21? Would you consider #8 a FB or TE or WR? Looks like he plays all over the field. #7 Looks like a pretty good QB, throwing and running. As for the line, looks like you are really big especially at center. My opinion is your line will be the weakness in this game. Our D front is special! You guys will have a hard time handling these boys fastness!  If our defensive ends get up field turning the backs inside the MC LB corps will have a feast! Just my opinion... I still think it will be a pretty darn good game!

Yeah.. looks like sp will be the toughest team on yalls schedule for the next few years.

Same could be said about SP as well.

Take it how you like Truth. You won't have to worry about us throwing the ball it's just not our style. Last years game Forrest could not get off the field on 3rd down. Had Marion 3rd and 6+ several times. I understand your planning on the Marion vs AE game but, don't forget anything can happen in the playoffs.

Believe me us MC fellers is not overlooking this one! This will be a better game than last year. These boys and coaches are focused, one game at a time. No one is looking past Forrest, we don't work that way down here! IF we win we go back to work, if we loose we play round ball just like everyone else in  the state.

Sure Meigs wanted another crack at Marion....I mean they were taken to the woodshed 2 years in a row!

Not that as a Meigs fan I thought they'd have a shot at beating Marion but, maybe just tighten the score a bit more.

So Meigs lost .....still the kids made a good run!

Sure I think Marion will do what they do and proceed to the semifinals with ease.

Being from the same region it seems fitting to support them.

Had hoped to meet you this year at our place Pujo. Hope we got something for this Forrest team next week. One game at a time at this point. Don't even want to talk about that possible collision in week 4 if we get there.

3 valley teams move up a rung on the ladder towards the Big Dance. Dunlap, Jasper and South Pittsburg communities have to be very proud of their teams. The Valley has had 2 playing this far before, but Old Pirate ain't thinking 3. Congrats to all the teams, all us old fellers is proud!

Wondering if Ameriga or someone from Forrest can answer. What makes the Rockets better this year than last? I know that some have said they were improved over a year ago. Just Curious because i dont think Marion is as good.

I don't think Marion is as explosive as last.. But I do think this team plays with a chip! They've heard all year about "not being as good" as last year. I honestly don't think one kid believes that this team is not as good as last year's and it show's on the field! Alot of the credit should go to the coaching as well. Mathis is what we expected him to be. I am seeing totally different sets on the offensive side of the ball. Hard to study film when we haven't ran most of these plays all season.

I foresee a trip to the woodshed....

Watertown had a good drive when they scored their first TD. Had to convert a few 4th downs, one of which we had stopped. The TD before the half kinda broke their spirits. It's hard to overcome when we score to finish the half and get the ball first in the 2nd half. Hopefully we came out of it with no injuries.

Will home field advantage be a factor in this game? Nah... We bring the entire town when we travel anyway!
