  1. Amen, love these kids, but this coach and staff have to go. We should be competing for the district

Crangefan has it right...York is loaded with talent, but also lost their QB who usually runs for over 100 yards a game and throws for a lot too. As for the coach...York was tied with DeKalb County at 21 all after leading by 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. York had 4th and 2 at their own 22 with about a minute to go. Instead of punting and trusting his team to hold DeKalb and then go for the win on OT, he went for it and didn't get it. DeKalb Co. scored on their 3rd play. Giving them the ball at the 22 was dumb! Then 3rd and three usually means a pass, instead of running for the 3 when they have strong backs!

  3. After watching that game last Friday with the Cravens kid out out at qb they will be lucky to win a game. If he is back in the line up they can still finish 4th. I've heard he is out for the year and I've heard he will miss two games. Stinks to see this group slip through the cracks.

Spoke to Mason, he believes he will be back for Grundy

  4. No relation to a coach wished I could coach. Have had kids play for Wright and Brown. And played at YAI myself back in the day. Do I agree with going for it then prob not. Do I agree with letting the kids say hey coach we got this and believing in them you DANG right I do. That's why at 0-4 these kids never gave up on Friday. I saw them playing as hard on the first play as they were the last. The state of athletics at YAI is due to administration bowing to parent and outside influences. Not in just one sport but all sports. I'm glad your supporting them with your money because getting on line and tearing down the coach and the program isn't supporting them.

If you wish to stop the personal attacks and discuss football that would be best, we can agree to disagree on football issues. I believe I am supporting the kids by calling the coaches out for their incompetence, you disagree that is fine, convince me what they are doing correct. I think having parents that are not faculty on the staff is a problem, so if that is part of what you are saying by parent influences we agree, though I don't think that is what you are saying, I could agree with you on the call if he did not go to the press box and throw the boys under the bus as an excuse. He should have Manned up and took responsibility for it either way.

  5. Told y'all be a blow out. Maybe if they would have let some of the York dads play, it might have been a game instead of a patty cake competition . Good luck next week York peppermint patties

I have certainly been critical of our coaching staff, much to the dismay of some of our fans, but the last two times you good folks from Sequatchie have been here there has been controversy, last time for a middle school game a few years back story is you brought a high school freshman running back to use against us, this time throwing smoke bombs onto field. Maybe time to grow up.

  6. My goodness man get a brain, you want to make this personal, the term is sour grapes. I will call you Rosie, for the Rosie scenario you see. Sorry if you are one of the coaches or kinfolk of one. The current group of jrs. and srs. are the tail end of some great Crush teams and my expectation is that we should be competing for championships. This has been squandered by samber, wright and the administration. I have supported these kids for years, at both High schools, and many sports, buying the things they sell (popcorn, laundry soap etc.), donating too their lifting and buying things at the auctions, and rooting from the stands for many sports. You want to debate the state of athletics at YAI? you can bury your head in the sand, but it is the kids I am standing up for they deserve better. I will post the facts as I see them. I will leave you with this one. Our head coach gets on the radio after losing a two score lead and the game and defends his decision to go for it 4th and short deep in your own end with little time left by saying I asked the kids what they wanted to do.

  7. Ole "soured grapes" here, so YAI now sits 0-4 and last place in the standings, but we're told its because of the schedule. thought this staff were genius'. they are now 2-12 under samber and with all due respect to Cannon and Grundy, we haven't beat anyone of consequence. in fact it not for the first two plays of the second half at Grundy I think we lose that one last year also. so now we hope we can beat Cannon and Grundy this year, then hopefully sneak up on Upperman or Smith to make the playoffs and all will be well correct.

  8. Not sure if the hype your talking about. Seems as if the kids like playing for him and I have seen some improvement. I'm excited to get into region play. I will say when they redo schedule this next time I hope he leaves the 4 and 5 a schools off. I do think it's foolish for a 3a school that barely misses being 2a plays up to 5a. No pissing match here. But I will make one last comment to your seniors. 14 are 4 year players not all play on Fridays but have played 4 years and one has played 3. So experienced i would think they should be. GO DRANGONS!!!!! And I'm sorry it didn't work out for whoever you had or have on the team because it all sounds like soured grapes. I'm done with this. GO DRAGONS!!!!!!!

no one on or off the team, old guy here. can remember Joe Willy in fur guarantying a win in the super bowl, just hate to see the level of play,   we done

  9. I talked my brother after the spring game. He said they played mainly juniors and seniors with several other upperclassmen out with injury. I heard about the young man quitting and ask my nephew about it. From his perspective it wasn't something unexpected. I hate that the young man made that choice, but from the way the spring game sounded they didn't miss a beat. From what I was told close to 70 on the roster GOOD LUCK DRAGONS work hard the rest of the summer. And I did count last years roster from that roster you are correct they have 14 from that roster. With a couple new upper classmen that didn't play last year.

You are correct that there are 19 seniors on the current roster, but as we posted earlier this year how many are returning experienced players. I do not know where these kids came from if they just came out or played as freshman, but I don't think you can represent this as 19 experienced seniors. I do not want to get in a pissing match about all this, I hope for the kids sake I am wrong and they turn things around, I am just stating the facts don't back up sambers hype.

  10. both those said 20 something coaching were part of a 13-1 semi final football staff in 2013 at Upperman and have more exp under there belts since then so I dont think age is a factor. Cant comment on the rest since i dont know the situation.

I think you make my point, what age was Coach Herron then. a lot of guys can cook a steak, they can't all run the restaurant. However bringing up that Upperman team, I was told that they had twenty seniors that  had been together since freshman year or before. this is something else that bothers me about the program at York. The current senior class had 27 kids on the squad when they came in as freshman, surely they were not all starter material but best I can tell there are only nine or ten left. seems like a lost opportunity to me.

  11. For instance?

Without getting into schemes, fundamentals or positioning at this time, as I said earlier in the year in my option you cannot play underclassmen in key positions and expect them to compete, I did not know at the time that several of the underclassman are related to parents helping to coach. further a twenty-something, head coach and likewise defensive coordinator are to inexperienced and immature for this job. Again in my option. So ask the question is there a winning, successful program out there starting a number of underclassmen? With parents on the coaching staff? and a twenty-something head coach?

  12. Watching the play back on local tv. York lost by 21 and had 14 points taken off the board and had several long runs called back in the first half. If they can clean up the offense they will be ok. Only worry is will it be like last year. Will they just have to try to score every time because defense can't stop someone.

Unless the administration makes a dramatic change to the staff, things will not get much better. There are too many unconventional things going on with this program that are not conducive to a winning program.

  13. 20 seniors are huge, i remember UhS went from 4-6 to 13-1 behind 21 seniors in 2013. I am getting more found of York the more I hear. I know Sambers has exp as an assistant winning. He has worked under to very good head coaches.

For the kids I hope you are correct and they do well, but there are only about 13 seniors on the roster if they all stay, had players quit last week, There are about 7 senior starters as of now, you will still see a number of underclassman starting. Just think it hard for Fr., So. too go up against Jrs. and Srs.
