Me and your brother witnessed some of the most disgusting behavior by parents today.  Cloudland grasscutters whipped the bejesus out of science hill today. No yards, no first downs.  The umpire threw a flag on Sh and their coach just lost it.  Shoved the ref and got ejected.  We made the mistake of sitting on the home side.  The SH parents decided to get in a brawl with each other and I had to scramble to get my girls 9 month old sister out of there.  Keep in mind that all these 7 and 8 year old kids are watching all this.  The refs called the game in the 3rd quarter.  Of course at the center of it all was some blonde with a store bought rack and a bankrupt skull.  I've long said that the female species is doomed.  Today took the cake

That’s mild compared to some of the high school football stories coming out of the 50s through the 70s. I’ve heard of a dad pulling a knife on the ref/coach at a Greenville game back in the 50’s after the game. Men were a lot meaner back then. Asked my father how many flags were thrown back when he played per game in the 60’s.He said about one or two the whole game. They would just let the boys play and we’re not so strict. A lot lot less penalty calling.

Was the talent level drop off that bad or did the staff fail to prepare this group or just a culmination of lots of things? I agree on the play calling. It's inevitable that you will have some drop off after graduation but should your program fall off a cliff?

Has a lot more to do with last years seniors graduating. The coaching staff is not the same. Some coaches left and went elsewhere. And we’re replaced. Might have something to do with it. Just another part of the equation.

Roll your eyes all ya want. We coming with what got us here. They stop it, they'll be the first to do so and we'll tip our hat. From what I'm watching, they'll have to rely on the throw to beat us and it may well be by 14 or more....could be a 4 qtr war too

Good luck to the Bulldogs. Trample the weak and hurdle the dead.

Very happy for West Ridge kids for exceeding expectations and shutting up some pundits.  I do think they should get better as the kids from the old schools gel and become one.  There is talent up in those hills. But since the South AD got hired it was obvious that it would be a lil hilton and his cronies.  Sorry, but they just aren’t a very good coaching staff and extremely predictable. They had a decent Offensive coach once but I think he is just coaching girls basketball now.  The Reb program had been blessed with talent since about 2005.  There has been a scattered bunch of talent at the other two schools as well, but just not enough.  Not an offensive mind in the bunch of coaches.  Dem Rebs would have put up a lot more points through the years if they had an OC. Weak bunch of coaches imo. They brought in lil robbie to run that slow, extremely one dimensional Sully North offense.  Such a shame. Watch 10 plays and you know how to defend that. They do have some horses on the line though, as others have pointed out.  This offense is just North on hypothetical steroids though.  All you need to do is pull old North video and then assume lil hilton will throw quick screens to his slot receiver 3-4 times a game. Nothing across the middle. No out pattens. No timing routes. No use of TEs.  They might throw long a couple times on a streak. Basic. Predictable.  A team with depth and some talent, will shut em down, as DB did. Geez, go watch what the quality Volunteer qb did to their poor defensive scheme in game one.  Again, not putting down the kids. But the good ole boys coaching staff… wow.
I hope some day WR gets a real coaching staff and not a bunch of Homers. Starts with getting that arrogant chunk of an AD to step down.
The Wolves will travel well, for sure. Good bunch of parents and fans.  Always polite and welcoming to me when I saw games at SS and SN, and two WR games at home this year.
With all these facts laid out, I truly hope WR upsets Murlville. I do.  Just give the credit to who deserves it.  But, Maryville 49 West Ridge 20.

The Coaches for WR have done better than you ever could have and will do more than you ever will.

I thought there would be a few more Westridge fans on the T. I hope y’all travel well and your students show up. D-B crowd was disappointing. The band opted out, and the team rode in school busses. The AD pulled up in a Tundra though. He wasn’t sitting on Ole Yeller for 2.5 hours.

I've got van load coming to watch the game. DBs band not showing up explains why they didn't have a lot of fans with them.

Fritz drives us crazy up here in NETN too. Don't hold his lack of knowledge, craziness or whatever you want to call it, against us.

I do crack up when people say Maryville is not that athletic.  I was looking through the Program I bought earlier this season.  I counted over 30 kids that run a 4.79 or better.  That is a lot of speed.

Those folks who say Maryville is not athletic are probably not that athletic themselves. One look through the first 7 or so profiles on Maryville's HUDL account will tell you the Rebels have a stellar weightlifting and conditioning program. Teams do not win state titles by tactics and motivational speeches alone.

    Good try though.

Are they any good at football? Most people come to a football forum to talk about, "Football."

  9. Can’t wait for this one. I hope it does snow. I have seen football teams start out strong at the beginning of the season and burnout toward the end of season. West Ridge just keeps on improving. Hard to tell when they will peak. Them seniors are making themselves a year to remember for the rest of their lives. I’ve noticed a lot of people have underestimated the wolves ability since from the beginning of the season based on the three schools’s previous football seasons. Nothing sweeter then proving the naysayers wrong. Go Wolves!!!

  10. I’m gonna buy me a WR hoodie, all kinds of shirts and apparel for my whole family. WR just keeps on a trucking. Improving with every game. Sure would like to see a rematch with that team from Kingsport.Jefferson county lost all their steam right at the beginning of the fourth. I’m happy for the team and the coaches on a  good win. Proud to see my sons former coaches doing well for a new team.

After the hard fought battle against DB. How will West Ridge play against Cherokee. Will they continue to open up the playbook now that they have discovered the forward pass.

They definitely got some game time experience against db. It was needed. They improved as the game went along. WR will have no problem against Cherokee.

There is no doubt that when you take the best athletes from three different areas ,it's probably going to be a much stronger sports program. That's not always the case and the best example I can think of is when both of DB's middle schools beat Greeneville's one middle school .Four years later,DB couldn't beat those same players at Greeneville.Holston would beat a lot of middle schools but many of those players wouldn't stay in the Central system,I look for the WR coaches to really reach out to their younger kids over the coming years and become a very strong program to contend with.

My whole life I have seen parents from all three county school systems opt to send their children to DB because they were not satisfied with the sports programs at their schools. I’ve also seen how the nicer neighborhoods that develop within the county end up being able to send their children to DB because somehow Kingsport pulls some strings and gets city taxes from these nicer neighborhoods. Even though these newly developed neighborhoods are geographically located in the county schools zones. For years students have been pulled from the county and sent to DB as long as their parents paid city taxes. Pull up Kingsport City School zone on the internet and see how erratic Kingsport’s City limits are. The City loves getting them taxes from neighborhoods in Orebank, Crown Colony, Preston Forest, Sullivan Gardens, and neighborhoods out by the airport. It’s no wonder West Ridge had to be built. Because KCS kept pulling students from schools that once had 1500 students a piece roaming the halls.
Now the playing field is even. And it will be a heck of a game. West Ridge is a decent team now, but once they get to all train together at the same facility all year long, and after one four year rotation from freshman to seniors, DB will no longer be able to brag about beating small time, cup cake county schools(Wording of some DB fans) They will have to REALLY earn their bragging rights.

So, hearing rumors that a West Ridge tweet fired up some D-B parents.  Think it had something to do with the band sitting on the away seats now or something to that effect and telling West Ridge fans to go purchase the home side seats on Go Fan.  The tweet in question has since been deleted I believe.

Rivalry has begun y'all.  Going to be fun Friday night.

Apparently, WR junior varsity only played DBs freshman last Thursday according to someone’s post on this thread. So is this game only going to be the WR varsity against DBs JV?  :popcorneater:

Yeah, what happened at Greeneville was unavoidable. I was just pointing out that I had seen WR and while they couldn't do anything with Greeneville, I was impressed with the roster and the fan support they got for a scrimmage. IMO they will be the Tribe's best opponent to date.

WR scrimmage against Elizabethton might have made them a little overconfident for the following week when they scrimmaged Greeneville. Was like night and day.
