  1. Really feel bad for those kids. I think those seniors were something like 39-1 in youth and middle school football. Hoping for the best for those young kids coming up.

I think that just goes to show how much different it is once the talent level gets more comparable. Once you get to high school coaching becomes such a bigger part of the game. its easy to be big winners in middle/ rec ball. but its much harder to win the further you go up.

But I hate it for the kids. I dont know how many times over the years ive seen kids make it to high school and don't have the success that many projected for them. sometimes its coaches get in the way of that and sometimes just bad timing and bad luck.

  2. WB ranked 25th out of 32 teams, Bradley ranked 4th? Not sure how that is incomprehensible...

score was 28-13 and Bradley had it at 21-0 at half before letting their foot off the gas. You cant take everything from a box score. heck if you look at the Maryville vs BC game you'd think Bradley scored quite a bit. But in actuality the majority of those points came against Maryville's twos. Bradley is without #10 but that defense is still nasty. I just hope i can make it down to the game after work Friday with the early start times.

  3. Cookeville is playing a very weak Bradley Central team that got hammered by Maryville and played a close game against one of the worst teams in the state. Ever since losing their QB, they have apparently fallen off. Cookeville should win somewhat easily.

Not sure if I can take this serious or not? Who did they play close that's one of the worst teams in the state? how can they be considered very weak?

  4. It's funny because for a little while this season Bradley was coming through as the top team in the state. It was really early in the year, but they have just kept winning.

very interesting and not at all surprising. early season Bradley was mud stomping teams.

the past few games have looked closer on the scoreboard then they actually were but the computer cant recognize that I'm assuming. Either way the Bradley vs Maryville game is shaping up to be big time.

  5. And his yearly stats are less one game he didn't play. Plus he was hurt playing in MCMinn game. Last year he was good but this year I think the one thing that stands out is how much faster he is. Threw for 370 plus yards against the Bears while being chased most of the night. They made a couple line changes that have helped with that.

whats yalls take on how he will do next year when hes "the guy". I've heard interesting thoughts on this from a couple of WV fans. some think he will continue to improve some expect a drop off with the supporting cast being less favorable.

  6. I think it all happened after the NFL allowed free agency in 1992. Now after the son complete's all that free training from the  coaches that are working hard towards supplying a certain high school with players then good old "AGENT DAD" steps into the picture and takes the kid to the free agency market where they can determine where his skills will be better suited for and the most playing time possible. That seem's to be the way I've been seeing it for a while I believe.

I think you see this happening with QB's more so then any other position. With the all the "QB Coaches" and camps kids are looking around for the best fit for them. its kind of the nature of the position as well. Only one QB can play. its so different from any other position on the field where you have multiple spots at linebacker, receiver,O/Dline, ETC.

  7. So much changes from middle school to high school that

No one's throwing anything at your kids. There is a combination of things from kids on the midget team that would have been great to have all the way from kids playing out of position. I've talked to two different people that have kids on that team that don't know each other and told me the same stuff. There is so much that changes between junior high and high school in the the maturity of a kid that things totally change three years later.  I could name you a hundred kids that didn't play diddly at the junior high that have been big time players at the high school and the most resent was Kelby Brock who owns most of the pass receiving records. This year one player that comes to mind is Michael Hall. One of the biggest ever was Carl Stewart. That's why I don't give it much thought what happens at that level. Even if there are a group that may be weaker than most GQ can usually salvage the thing and make some good players in the end. Do you know up until this week has been the first time the junior high schedule has been posted and I checked last week and it wasn't. Years ago Alcoa hung 60 points on Maryville in a junior high game and the same kids turned it around and won against the same group when they were seniors and a heck of a lot to do with it was the fact some kids developed faster than others. I do hate it when the kids lose like they are right now but as I said a couple of days ago on a post that's it's nothing GQ can't fix.

I think you nailed it. Ive seen Bradley's middle school feeders go winless several seasons in a row to turn around and be some of the best classes at Bradley. The coaching staff at the middle schools are made up of mostly volunteers and usually coaches who quite frankly just arent in the same stratosphere of coaches as the highschool coaches. You run into the same issues every where kids playing out of position, poor development, and poor coaching. To blame 13-14 year old kids for things is very poor logic. I've heard of these middle school coaches blaming kids for losses and such and at the end of the day the grown men should be looking in the mirror.

  8. What really surprises me is Bradley ppl are over looking this Cleveland team. Do I think we may win? Maybe, probably should. Bout the same players for Cleveland plus a few extras? But a whole heck of a lot different team from last year. Have Cleveland played anyone as good as us yet? Nope! But I have a feeling that won't mean much in this game. Cleveland is a great team this year. Could easily sneak out a win. We just gotta go in that game ready to throw down and bring that win back to Bradley. It's going to be tough.

I think its pretty apparent no one is overlooking this Cleveland team. All eyes are on this game. To most people this game means way more than any before or after it outside of a state title. But this is a lot different Cleveland team then the bears played last year. But from what ive seen so far of the bears they look a lot different too.
