  1. They should take a hard and long look at David Martin. Hall of fame coach. Dominated CPA when he was at Goodpasture, actually won so much vs CPA they had to get Ingle there to finally win playoff game. Won it all several times at GP. Has done remarkable job at Stewart's Creek. Meets C of C requirement.

  2. Just saw highlights on 17 in Nashville. Not sure why the RB (4) who is going to Clemson felt the need to run over the DB after he had clearly scored the TD and then brush off his jersey going to sidelines. Such a good example of sportsmanship. Guess the CPA faithful will defend his actions.

You are correct from a demographics standpoint as JP2 should have been built in Murfreesboro or Williamson County.  Still, the enrollment for the freshman and sophomore classes are at all-time highs.

And my boys attended St Joe's so i am aware of the enrollment issue.  I would argue that some of the diocese schools are in less than desired areas.

I would guess that Murfreesboro would have been a great selection. Brentwood would have been too close to F Ryan and they would have fought for the same student.

JP2 in Murfreesboro would be hard to deal with in all sports with the talent and lack of competition from other privates in Rutherford Cty.

  4. I agree with the score in previous post. I may be wrong, but it seems like the teams who have had long time successful coaches step down (Ensworth, DCA) are finding the waters rough. The coaches retired for a reason and the reason appears to be the quality of talent (or lack of) left to the new coach.

CPA is catching Ensworth at the best possible time. If this game was played 5 years ago, CPA would not be in this easy position.

Booger, not being insulting at all. If they need bodies and there are middle school players available, why not go ahead and pull them up and get experience? When they are sops they will be hard to deal with. Players coach seems high on the middle school talent in place currently.

DCA will be fine. 28 on the middle school and another decent number for next year to replace the two seniors. MS could have scored 70 against NCS tonight and has several players that will be excellent in HS.

Beat them this year but they will be fine for many years to come and compete for another gold ball soon.

Yes, i can see both DCA and Friendship being the go to teams for middle TN D1 in the future. NCS looks like current issues may hinder the near future. i'm still not sold on Davidson being able to keep pace.

Columbia Academy could start making some noise. They have good coaching in several sports and they are the only game in town for privates in that area.

I heard Goodpasture may be reclassified as D1 due to lower enrollment. Won't effect FB, looks like they have given up on that sport and are now a BB school.

The new private in Franklin may be a player in 2-3 years, understand they have the finances to do whatever they want.

Nothing has happened to Goodpasture or Lipscomb.  It's really a changing of the times with many young couples making the decision to send their children to public schools that are paid for with tax payer dollars.  All private schools are expensive and the tuition increases appear to have no end.  Both schools (Lipscomb & Goodpasture) are playing in the BIG BOY LEAGUE now and if you are not able to or refuse to give 100% of what a family qualifies for in financial aid you will be left standing at the train station.  The day's of a family making major sacrifices (new home, new car, boat, vacations, etc...)  to send a child to school X, Y, or Z because they are Church of Christ, Baptist, Catholic, etc... are long gone and will probably never return.  I could easily see some private schools begin to close there doors in the very near future due to a major drop in enrollment numbers.

Don't tell that to the DCA crowd, shhhhh.......Playerscoach and the other DCA posters will eat you alive if you believe anything other than DCA is exempt from falling enrollment. It only happens to other private schools in Nashville.

I made a similar post to yours regarding ALL privates in Nashville under the DCA thread and the DCA folks got up in arms.

    1-10 only win vs GP

What has happened to both L and Goodpasture?

I remember for many years thier game was always broadcast on TV and was always a good game.

who would have ever thought these programs would fight it out to determine the worst HS private in Nashville.

And there it is. Any success huh? Lol Ridiculous statement.

Since DCA pulls a very large number of students from Mt Juliet, it's in Wilson County,  I'd say it's been pretty successful. If you count gold balls is the most successful.

The growth in Wilson County is almost exclusively West of 109. Folks in Mt Juliet head West into Nashville not east to Lebanon.

This thread is about the new coach at DCA and he's a game changer. Coach Goodwin handed the program to the guy that will start a new era for DCA football greatness.

I know you have been on here for a long time and are hard core DCA, sorry to get your panties in a wad. I was responding to Booger, not you. I'm not disrespecting DCA or any other private, just stating the fact that private school cost are getting more unaffordable. Since you are the DCA expert,, share with us the he tuition cost (uniforms, media included) to attend in 2008 vs 2018.

  10. Also, to add to my previous post to make my point, if you look at Wilson and Rutherford Ctys, they are 2 of the fastest growing in the state. With this in mind, there is really only one private school in either county who has had any sucess in FB and that is Friendship. Middle TN Christian has tried, but still hasn't gotten over the hump in FB with the FB powerhouses in the county to compete with.

    Thanks Booger

the biggest thing I see is the cost. If you have all the privates going d2 and offering assistance to athletes, the money has to come from somewhere. Most of the privates I mention are not in Williamson Cty. In the past many people in Davidson Cty were not going to send thier kid to public unless thier kid got into MLK or Hume Fogg. The smaller privates such as Ezell, DCA, Goodpasture, Davidson, NCS were a good alternative. Now most of them have tuition that many now cannot afford. It's cheaper to move to Rutherford or Wilson Cty and go to public. I believe that is a reason both counties are experiencing more sucess in football and other sports. I would say across the board that Rutherford Cty has the best group of HS football teams in TN. Williamson will always have good public and privates HS FB because people there have the money to do private or public.

im not wishing bad on any private school in Nashville, I just don't see some of them will be in business 10 years from now.

I was informed this week that former DuPont and Vanderbilt player Brad Gaines will be sending his son to DCA instead of Station Camp where his older daughters attended.  Is this true?  I do know that Brad and DCA head coach Paul Wade played together at DuPont.

Big pickup for DCA if true. All of the Gains clan are classy people and an asset to any school thier kids attend. Surprised Goodpasture not in mix as cousins attended there I believe?

Oh I think you will get your wish about getting pushed this year.  May be in the playoffs, but will definitely happen.  CPA may still come out on top at the end.

i'm not saying that they will never get pushed by other teams around the state. However if you don't have the Lipscombs and GPs putting the same emphasis on football, what does it matter? Even if you win several more football state championships, does it really mean that much when all you do is play and win 1 decent game in your class each year? i think in the long run it would be better for CPA to play up against MBA, BA etc as they proved recently against Ensworth that they can compete and win.

oh lordy...u just made a big booboo with that statement

Just telling it like it is. As for DCA, I give them credit for hiring Wade, went for a home run and got it. However, if you don't have the jimmy and joes, don't matter bout the Xs and Os. DCA will have a few quit and a few get injured and next thing you know they are down to numbers similar to the teams they would have a running clock going before the end of the 1st quarter in recent years. You just hope they don't have to go to 7 man football.

The other privates that were at one time power house teams are just a shell of former glory. At one time 10 years or so ago. Nashville had the best group of mid size privates in TN with 40-50 strong rosters. Tuition was also about 1/3 of what it is now, another issue.

  15. CPA should win it all this year. Do it now cause in next 3--4 years you will see a drop off with CPA. It's not due to support in the school, it will be due to lack of competition in the are, no team to push them. Prior to 2010 when Martin arrived, Goodpasture was the bell cow CPA could not get passed. Add in that other privates such as DCA were fielding very competitive teams. CPA ran off the prior coach due to angry parents and hired Martin and it has proved to be a great move. Now 8 years later teams such as GP, JP2, LA have let thier football teams go to pot, CPA does not have a rival local in D2AA.

  16. They have a good coach there, remains to be seen how long he stays. DCA is looking like another Ezell Harding in football. Most small privates in Nashville are following in same direction. Who would have ever believed both Goodpasture and David Lipscomb would be as pitiful as they are. 5-6 years ago they played on TV every year!
