Agree Mt Pleasant may have a big time turn around. They got hit hard by COVID early last year and never could get it together. They have too many athletes not to compete. If this new coach is going to spread it out and use their speed, I think they could compete for the top of this region.

The underclassmen classes are very talented. The junior, sophmore, and freshman class that came over form the middle school had an impressive run. 19-3 the last three years. Two conference championships. Covid hit the middle school hard too, finished in a three way tie for second in the conference after loosing in double OT to Loretto and then Waynesboro. Beat regular season champion Richland 30-18 the one week all the players were healthy and able to play. Lots of speed, grit, and they are buying in to Coach Hartsfield and his staff. Should be a major difference this season.

I definitely think the top spot will come down to HC/Springfield. I'm not real familiar with what all Springfield has as far as returning players and what not. Just judging by their past few seasons I would say if we was slacking that particular night they may could pull it off. So the top spot for me is a toss up (even though I like our chances.) Northeast will clearly be the #3. I don't see NE beating Springfield or HC but should take care of the rest of the region. The 4th spot for me is also a toss up between Portland and Kenwood. So all that said to basically say the same thing you did.

Springfield has a new OC. Former HC at Mount Pleasant.

In Giles County there used to be alot of small schools:

    Lynville High Tigers (Richland)

    Campbellsville High Bears (Richland)

    Boedenham High Hornets ???

    Pulaki High Bobcats (Giles Co.)

    Elkton High Elks (Giles Co.)

Minor Hill Don't know the mascot (Giles Co.)

That's all the ones I know.

Lynnville was actually Jones High School at Lynnville. They were purple and gold. Last football team was in the mid 70’s. My dad was on it.  All that’s left is the old high school field and the AG department shop.

Campbellsville was blue and white. Didn’t have a football team and would co-op to Jones. Someone turned what was left of the school into a house

Beech Hill also closed to help form Richland. Unsure of their mascot.

Bodenham was the Hornets and located right on highway 64.

    Minor Hill are the Wildcats.

Elkton and Minor Hill are still K-8 schools. In some sports, like football, they combine to be the South Giles Eagles in middle school sports.

Haylong High Tigers (Red and White) and Clarke Training School (Blue and White) believe they were also the Tigers combined after desegregation to make Mount Pleasant High Tigers (Red, Blue, and White)

What appended to Mt Pleasants last coach and is Hartsfield considered an upgrade or no

He was let go after going 1-8 this last season. Lost to Richland for the first time in almost thirty years, and to Zion Christian for the first time ever (was also Zion first football win over any Maury County school).

  5. My son says he's a great guy and everyone is getting stronger in the weightroom and gaining confidence from being around him. (I believe) He has a few other alum on the staff which is going to be good for rebuilding community trust and tradition. I'm not naive enough to think we will win them all, but I do feel good about the new leadership. Only time will tell. Spring practice is almost here, maybe we will get a glimpse of what the future holds?

I am a Mount Pleasant alumni, but I have family down there going back to the old Jones High School in Lynnville. I am looking forward to seeing what this coach can do. It is a great school, and I think it will translate well on the field. Rome was not built in a day, but all it takes is the right spark and things can happen. 15 years ago Mount Pleasant went 0-10, new coach came in after only 3 seniors left and went 8-3 in the first season and 12-1 in the second.

  6. Haven't had a chance to follow many of the other teams in the region. MP returns almost everyone and are adding several athletes. Don't sleep on Richland. Their new coach went to school there, understands the community, and how to reach the kids there. Could be what they need to make a push for a playoff spot.
