  1. Has Harig been hired at Bearden, and what will his job be at Bearden. Offense, defense, or maybe quality control so that Shinliver does not make any assistant coach hires that are dragging the program lower than it has ever been. Or maybe if he is hired by King John he will report directly to King John like Shinliver did when he became AD under King John but was still an assistant on Coach Taylors staff. Are there any Bearden supporters on THE T left to support the current regeme or has appathy set in on The Hill.

If Harig ends up at Bearden, bad for HIM and bad for Bearden. Harig is a better coach than an assistant, but at the "right" place.

  2. My son lives in a town 35 miles north of Austin, population about 1,400. The local high school has 325 students, with about 50 kids in the football program. Their stadium seats nearly 4K and they fill it pretty much every home game.

Football is a different animal in Texas.

And don't forget about Shiner Bock.

I personally like a little Shiner Bock every now and again.

  3. It's not my practice to "name names" because I don't want to get anybody in a bad way with their current boss if a particular job doesn't work out.

But, as I understand it the "final 3" are a current Knox Co DC with no head coachng esperience, a current Knox Co OC with past head coaching experience, and a current head coach from a 5A school in East Tennessee with considerable head coaching experience.

I also understand that the time frame still looks to be the end of January, and I don't know why it is going to take that much longer.

I'll apologize for indirectly alluding to candidates but hopefully they are smart enough to tell their current employers that a school has reached out to them and they are going to take a listen.
  4. He's currently not certified. I believe he's currently in school trying to get certified. I think workouts will start when the students return, I'm pretty sure they have an intern coach

Who would that be??? I have heard that there would not be an interim coach because they expected this to move along much quicker than it has. It has been said that the AD is the "go to" guy until they name a coach! Hope he is ready for workouts tomorrow! Hope there is a plan in place!

  5. Not really sure Knox Co Administrators are really concerned about high quality coaches in Knox Co. If I we're a West supporter I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Totally agree with you, from what I hear, it is between the OC at Farragut and the HC at MoWest. No knock on those two guys but are they really the answer at West HS? Some people will say, with enough support these guys can make it happen. I, on the other hand, say they have not experienced diversity like they would at West. This job gets more interesting by the day and I just want a coach named.

  6. It is easy to coach a kid like TT. I think you find out a coach's "worth" when they can develop a kid into being a dang good player. No offense to CSJ, but TT didn't need much coaching. I would never base Scott Cummings coaching on Seth Marshall. Marshall was an absolute beast and that had zero to do with CSC. I will give him credit for "putting" the kid in the right position.

Good luck to the MAVS this year! Always enjoyed playing against those kids!

  7. Here we sit with no HC and kids head back to school on Monday. Workouts should begin when they get back but with no coach in place does the current staff make that happen? The administration has dropped the ball with this one. At this point, I don't care who they name as coach as long as one is in place so these kids can get to work!

  8. No offer has been made yet. He is still a candidate.

I was told today that they are not near making a decision yet. Several new candiates are going to be interviewed. Was told that it will be at least mid, if not late, January before a hire is made.

Absolutely ridiculous. Several "new" candidates? Did they all wait and apply on the last day the job was posted? The longer this goes, the more it tells me they are going outside the current staff. West is on the verge of reaching current Powell level.

  9. Yeah, I know knox teachers teach 3 classes a day and get one plan. Some schools will atleast give the coach 4th plan during the season. I have no problem with the coach teaching 3 classes a day. I'm just saying outside of Knox County, I know of one situation where the coach teaches 2 gym classes and is done by 11:00 and another where the head coach teaches zero classes. I'm not judging right or wrong, that's just how it is. Which sometimes makes it harder for Knox County to hire top notch head coaches.

HTV. rocket science + brain surgery = rocket surgery or brain science.

    either one

West has a guy on staff that would be a good OC. And if Lane is hired, I think he will be loyal to his long time colleague, plus West is not in a position to create a teaching position for an OC,

    Who would this be?

  10. I Love Kevin Lane, and he has done a great job at west over the past few years. It's no secret that west's biggest problem was scoring points. With that being said does the admin. Go after a offensive minded head coach, or give Lane the job and trust him to find a good OC?

I have pondered this myself. I wonder if there is anyone on staff that could take over the roll of OC or if he would have to find someone to bring in.

  11. West won that state championship on offense not defense my friend so you must not do very good research. In 2012 West allowed 19.08 per game and went 9-3.2013 allowed 15.03 per game and went 13-2, 2014 allowed 15 per game and went 14-1, 2015 allowed 16.58 per game and went 9-3. in 2016 allowed 17.00 per game and went 4-6. Only two points difference in allowed points between a state champion and a 4-6 team that didn't make the playoffs. Now the first time I ever saw GCA ever play live was in a scrimmage against Clinton in the 2015 and GCA pretty much handled them in a game type setting with clocks and officials and chain gang. In case you might have been there that evening on the last play of the game a linebacker for Clinton got leveled by one of the GCA linemen and it took thirty minutes for the ambulance to get there and take the young man to the hospital and both coaches just called the game over after that play. When I left that game I though to myself for a 2A team they pretty much dominated that entire game. There is no doubt that McKamey is a good coach and being from Clinton should be a plus because he does understand the entire situation. If he is picked the next head coach there he will do good. Now he's a little different but the man will take chances most coaches won't and I think that's what I enjoyed more than anything about him so no doubt who Barney would hire if he were available.

That terrible defense gave up 6 points in the SC game that nobody gave them a chance to win. Especially facing that high powered Hillsboro offense. Yes, we had some special kids those years, it wasn't just about offense as you have made it seem. I would love to see how many defensive and special teams TD's were scored during those years as well.

I do agree with you though, if I'm at Clinton, I hire McKamey as well. The wingT will be perfect for Clinton.
