Class AA Miss Basketball consideration should be given to Cumberland County (Jr) point guard

     Gracee Dishman

She is having a fantastic season.

Points per game 31.8 per game ( #1 in Tennessee, #5 in nation)

Career total points to date- 1769 pts

Season total points to date - 609 pts

    Player of year 2016-17

    District Tourn MVP 2016-17

    All- District 2015-16, 2016-17

    All Region 2015-16, 2016-17

    3pt Field goals(31-86) 36%

    Free throws (132-147) 90%

    Rebounds 3.4 per game

    Steals 3.2 per game

    Assists 3.1 per game

Seen her play several times this year. Against very good competition too, have yet to see anyone stop her getting to the rim. In my opinion she should be a finalist.

  2. Don't sleep on Cumberland County. Talk about "big game experience". They have Gracee Dishman a state leading 32 points per game average  ( #5 in nation per unapproved website) Plenty of talent on that team. Watched them handle a very good Clarkrange team Monday night. Clarkrange doubled Dishman all night and she still had 34. I believe they will match up against Upperman in the regionals, should be a good prediction for the state. The pressure they put on teams with that high energy press is hard to break thru. In my opinion that have a big chance of winning it all.

Just for clarity, they played 4 teams in Arizona. Went 2-2 in the tournament.

I always was led to believe the Coach T poll is a state poll. No schools out of state record is counted, only wins and losses are recorded. You are ranked based on your record in state, want to be higher? win against higher ranked teams within the state. As the season continues to play out, there will be no doubt who the best teams are.

With all due respect the schedule ranking of 61 does not take into account the out of state teams that they have played. Only the in state teams. They faced stiff competition in the Phoenix tournament. Not saying they deserve to be 2 but your argument that they shouldn't based on strength of schedule doesn't hold water.

All top teams play out of state teams.  I am sure they are a great team, no disrespect meant at all, but so are the others on the list. They all have had a "good 1st half" to their seasons. Ranking using strength of schedule does stand for something, why else use it to rank teams? why should a team that beats a higher ranked team not be list above one that wins against a lower seed? I will agree that the ranking stands for nothing at this point but conversation topics, the best teams will make to to the state finals regardless of where they are ranked at now.

No matter how beatable they are, they still should be #2 give them the respect they have earned the !st part of the year. Still no team from Tennessee has beat them since they so beatable.

Really? They have a schedule ranking of 61st! Play some tougher Tennessee teams. Cant argue with a team being ranked 2nd and having at the 4th toughest schedule. I am sure they are a good team, but until you play, and beat top teams, you can not claim to be one.

Dont know too much about Cumberland and Westview waiting on them. Cumberland or Upperman will have to go through Mcminn Central or Meigs to get there at their place. Tough places to win.

McMinn Central had nothing for Cumberland county when they played them Nov 20th. They will play again on Feb 9th. Guess we will see if they have improved by then. Don't see either of those teams being any competition for Cumberland county or Upperman. Time will tell.

I think UHS is slightly better

I would love to know how you come to that conclusion. Other than just being a fan of UHS. One team fills their schedule with competitive games pre Christmas break, while the other "coasts" through a weaker schedule as per the norm. We will see if it pays off when region play comes around.

Cumberland County choose to play in the weaker district.  They will not be tested in district play.  I believe it would of been more beneficial  to play in 8AA.  Playing  Upperman and Macon would help them gain more big game experience  before tournament time.     Stone, Blackman and White are all average 3AAA teams this year.  Clarkrange is there strongest opponent on schedule.  I believe Upperman is the team to beat in AA.

How did they "choose" to play in a weaker district? Upperman and Macon will get their shot during regional play.

None of these teams you mentioned are Top 25 teams outside of Clarkrange (maybe)

They were when they played them. If you still doubt then check out CoachT own rankings. Cumberland  Co has a schedule ranking of 20 which is probably why they have them ranked #1. Not another of their top ten teams have a schedule ranked higher. Don't worry too much though, only half way though the season. The pretenders will soon fall by the way side.

I'd agree. Although, I went to see Pearl Cohn and East Nashville game last week. (Huge Rivalry) Pearl had East down 20+ half way through the 3rd quarter. Pearl blew a lead (which they tend to do often) to lose 61-60. Pearl probably has  two of the best players in ALL classes with Shaw and Chambers and could beat any of these top 5 teams when those two get going. The downfall is that their supporting cast isn't very good. Which will hurt them.

South Greene, Upperman, Westview,  Cumberland Co. strength of schedule isn't very intriguing. Mainly due to their location and district play. I would just like to see "good teams" play tougher opponents early in the season, instead of small county schools. (Just my opinion)

However, I do believe that Pearl Cohn can be up there with the tops of these Top 5 teams.

    I do like the list!

Have you seen Cumberland county first half schedule? Nearly all top 25 teams at the time they played them, not their fault they were moved into a weak district for the second half of their schedule. Far and away the best AA team this first half. Unless the likes of Blackman, Stone Memorial, Beech, White County,Clarkrange, and McMinn are not "good teams".

  11. Warriorettes may be better than Cumberland Co , just can't stop the turnovers. Bad part of our game .

I am confused, how can you be better than another team and continue to loose to them? Heard an amazing stat the other day, there is not one active coach in 6AAA that has beaten Cumberland girls in 4 years. Last coach to do it was Coach Haley and Johnson.

  12. If it comes down to coaching i'll go with the the SMHS coach. He's taken boys teams from two different schools to the state tournament. I think he knows how to game plan and make adjustments when the game is on the line. SMHS is a totally different team than CCHS. Your talent level should dictate how you coach. The best coaches are the ones that get more from less! Lack of discipline will eventually catch up to you! Should be a good game.

Just a couple points of issue with your opinions. First this is girls basketball and what you did with a boys team counts for squat. Second Stone hasn't beaten Cumberland in 11 games, if all you said were true then that would not be case. Facts are they are disciplined and they know how to win. That comes from coaching. I imagine you have a connection to Stone and this is just wishful thinking. All will be revealed Monday evening.

  13. I think White beats Cumberland tonight in a close one. Expecting Luna & Leftwich to have big games. Don't think either team will shoot it great @ Warren Co. Leftwich will be the difference.

Well you were kind of right all except for White Co winning. Worst Cumberland has shot in a long time. Tough game but CCHS never lost the lead the whole game. Should have been the final in my opinion, White County is clearly the second best team in the district.

  14. I think stone memorial plays bradley in region final cumberland loses to stone or east ham in region semi. I agree its hard to beat a team three times which mean itll be hard for riverdale to beat stewarts creek a third time. Stewarts creek hing with bradley last year before fallinf out of it in 4th quarter. Stone memorial has only played bradley once at bradley and lost that game on last second shot. The second game at stone was csncelled due to weather. That first game woke bradley up. They know how to step up when they need to.

No that's just plumb crazy talk from an obsessed Bradley fan. No way stone beats Cumberland or East Hamilton.

This talk of hard to beat three times is garbage. Stone has not beat Cumberland county girls in over 4 years! Come to think of it, no team in 6AAA has beat Cumberland in the past 2 years.

  15. Cumberland Co got beat badly both games against Bradley Co . By 30 or more at Crossville . Bradley and Riverdale are in a different league .

No doubt at this point they are. I just don't think you can get a good gauge on another meeting when you consider that the past two were not with Cumberlands full squad. If they do beat them I don't think it will be by 30. The hardest part for any team will be playing in Bradleys home gym.

  16. I would say that the Cumberland Co vs East Hamilton region game will be a closer game than a Bradley Central vs Cumberland Co game...

I disagree, Cumberland beat East Hamilton already this year 80 to 38.

Both games Cumberland had against Bradley this year, they were missing starters from their line up. Will be interested to see how things shake out!

  17.

Just pointing out since no colleges are looking at 8th and 9th graders...Stone Memorial has a 9th and 10th grader that both hold offers from Tennessee Tech and interest from several other schools...they were noticed this past summer between 8th and 9th, 9th and 10th...just saying, it does happen. [/quote

If that is true, I think that's a NCAA violation. They can say we like you, we are going to keep and eye on you, or even we are interested in bringing you here. But to have an offer is another thing entirely. Tech makes the rounds and tells kids this all the time.

  18. All due respect, you can not compare "elementary" nor middle school basketball to high school ball. I understand you have near identical line ups as you did in middle school but as kids grow and like you said coaching changes. Players get better and progress while some players don't mature as well. But you can't take a way from the coach you are blaming the problem on. He has won district championships through out his entire career. Pointing fingers at the coach will only make your problem worse. You get home after the game, your athlete hears your opinion. Sides with your opinion since things aren't going as expected. Before you know it a cancer has grew amongst your team and opinions slowly tear a team apart from each other and or there coach

    AMEN.

How much film study are they doing on their own time. Willing to bet then never had to do that a middle school. How much practice time are they putting in outside of the regular practice sessions? Point is a player has to develop and prepare themselves for games. You can bet there is a a guy in a gym somewhere practicing to beat you. You have to out work that guy! Hold your kids more accountable for their own game preparation. Coach can only lead them to water, can't make them drink.

  19. CCHS continues to backslide under the direction of the current coaching staff! It's ashamed that the administration will not do whats best for the program. That same group of juniors were competitive on the state level when they played at South Cumberland. Sadly, they have gone backward since entering the basketball program at CCHS. Don't look for things to change anytime soon! It starts at the top. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. The numbers don't lie.

What? Are you serious? Did you really just put something like the boys were good in elementary school but you can't see why they are not as good in high school? Hello, welcome to AAA ball. Sounds more like you have a parent problem than a coaching/ administrative problem.

  20.

Give the gold ball to Riverdale please. No one in the state can play with them.

Bradley is good, they beat a young Stone Memorial team on a last second shot. Cumberland County ranked 3rd in the Coacht poll...are you kidding me? I don't think they have the fundamentals to get out of the region. These so called "county elementary schools" that put banners in their gym for winning a AAU tournaments are hurting the players, giving them false expectations of what the high school level is like. You have to guard, you have to listen to your coach, not momma, you have to play as a team player. You won't be spoon fed basketball, you will be given a lot of good coaching that should make you want to become better, But if your parents can buy bleachers for a college gym (boys thing here) to get their child a chance to play on an NAIA team. They'll end up in school a TTU playing in the school league. I hate what it's all become, there is no pride in these kids anymore, it's all about "ME" and what are you going to do for me. NOTHING>.get your butt to work and become a better player. Learn quickly and grow up.

Its clear that you are a hateful, negative person with no true idea of what is going on. You rattle on with negative comments about this team and that team without any true facts to back yourself up. I just saw where Cumberland  county was listed 1st on strength of schedule and 2nd on strength & success. To me, thats not a sign of a team lacking in "fundamentals". Support your local team with whom you may have some insight and ease up commenting on what you think you know, you make yourself look foolish.

  21. Well. District games begin now. Who can survive, bad officiating, home court cooking, un-educated parents about how their kid could be successful. All the out of shape, drug addicted, alcoholic abusing kids on these teams in the Upper Cumberland. NOT ALL, but this does exist and school systems allow kids who get caught with an illegal substance to return to the team. What about those juveniles in jail. Someone give them a second chance, ooooops. they don't have the money to hire / pay off / judges...and lawyers... Such a Joke. What have you won really, what are you teaching your child. MAKES ME SICK.

Well you win the prize for "Rant of the week".

Only thing missing was how its all Trumps fault.
