Count the championships. Medals are cute but where’s region 6 state titles?,,,??? This talk has been goin on for years as to when the rest of the state is gonna catch Region 4, but yet nobody has brought home any hardware. Success brings hate, just ask Maryvilles football team. They recruit, got too much money, the refs are in their favor, etc. Once again the champs come from region 4. Now everybody has 358 days to take shots at Cleveland on how they cheat, and get everything handed to them.

They may hate but Higher Calling has practice tonight.  I bet the Cleveland high school guys wont be out more then two weeks if that and then they will be back in the room.  That's why they win.  I'm not a Cleveland guy but i respect the hard work.  You get out what you put in.

  2. According to Eli King's parents , Eli King trained with Miron for 3 years and won tulsa etc while training there. Sounds like Miron gets results

It is a good room for sure. Miron believes in a lot of hard drilling. A typical day would be 3 sessions totaling 6 hours of which maybe 40-60 minutes was actual live wrestling, the rest is hard drilling.

Most kids seem to loose focus with that much drilling so don't go back. The results show for the ones that do though.

Miron suggests one weekend a month for out of state kids, he says one summer camp a year isn't enough time to pick up the system

  4. These camps are worth the drive and the money.

They don't need any endorsements from me but Bedard and pitts have both coached successful wrestlers from youth through NCAA D1.

Matt has been my sons coach from 8 years old and continues to be when we can catch up. A lot of the kids that started with him at youth are now racking up state championships in Ga.

A lot of the young Talent you see hitting the college and late high school ranks from Ga came through compound when Bedard was coaching there.

So while both these guys have returned to college coaching, they still know how to coach the younger ones.

If you ask nice Bedard might even put the MMA gloves on and punch you in the face. He''ll even smile while doing it.

Pitts will punch you too but he won't smile. He was Brands trained so he'll beat you with a scowl, it's just habit.

    These guys are awesome

  5. He was mentioning him training with Miron during the summer and spending some time in Ohio! .

Has he been to Mirons yet? That's a great room. Very different style than most but you can't argue with Mirons results, especially for the international styles.

  6. That's quite a resume, congratulations. Is there a reason you don't post under your name? I'm new here so maybe everyone else knows who you are but I don't.

My earlier post wasn't directed at you, more at the tendency of many on this board to call out individual wrestlers, wether they know them or not. I made the assumption they were parents because I wouldn't think many coaches would do that. The way this board doesn't make you disclose your identity, I guess they could be kids too which would make more sense.

I'm all for going and finding good competition both in matches and practices. There seems to be a group here that puts a high priority on watching kids practice and then gossiping about it like a bunch of old ladies. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but that rubs me the wrong way.

I didn't wrestle growing up so don't have direct experience with it but I kind of like what Daniel Cormier said during an interview: "what happens in the practice room, stays in the practice room". Just my opinion and it's worth no more than yours.

One thing we do agree on is that the future is bright. A lot of the kids mentioned have been wrestling since 5 or 6 years old. It's going to be neat to see how they do as they grow and progress through the sport

  7. Truth, Brother.

Hey, after National Preps this weekend, the boys and I will be ready to go shooting anytime. If you'll have us?

    -TH

You bet. We built some steel targets at work so there is a lot more variety to shoot at now. Just let me know when

  8. That 106 class is a jumbled mess on who the best is, i mean whitworth wrestled middle school at Super32 finished 4th, but i dont see who you are talking about him majoring a kid that beat Latona, but anyways. Latona during school season lost once this year to Matt Ramos who he later avenged that loss in same tourney. Sam did tech Horst and he only beat A/AA champ Holloway 9-1 this season. There really isnt a ton of crossover for either wrestler as Horst stayed mostly up in Middle TN and D2 106 this year was not competitive at all, while Horst did take on a higher quality field while i would say D2 106 was third best between the 3 divisions. I think we should try and get Whitworth-Horst-Holloway together and see if they can decide who the best is between them B)

Cade and Alex practice a good bit together now and alex used to practice with Noah some before the Horst's moved to Nashville.

TN has a ton of talent around that weight. The 3 above plus Urachuck and Seeley And several who haven't made it to high school yet like Emory Taylor, Cody Chittum, Trae Mcdaniel, Cooper Flynn and Garrison Dendy (Ethan's cousin) who's in Ga but could very well end up in D2. All those kids have trained and competed against each other over the years and I'm sure will continue to do so.

Imagine how good they would be if we could get them training together on the regular with out a bunch of fat #### dads keeping score in the corner and posting it on the internet?

  9. ^^ No problem fella's, I enjoy the commentary.  I dont know much about Tennessee wrestling since we live and did the youth stuff in GA, therefore i, like many others,  look to this forum for my information, so you guys keep doing your thing.   Appreciate ya'll

  10. Chip, I would like to say to you thank-you for a great post and thank your son for a great performance and the effort he showed while wrestling up against a state champion last weekend! He is amazing!I enjoyed watching your son so much I rewatched the video of the his match several times with friends. And I hope to have him on my broadcast many times in the future!Dean JohnsonATWsportscast.com

    Cool! Thank you

  11. Great post Chip. Very classy after a tough loss. And apologizes if I stirred things up in my earlier posts. Both are GREAT wrestlers and fun to watch. I didn't mean to take anything away from Simpson as he wrestled tough and smart in the match. And I think a lot of folks would love to see a rematch. But the future is certainly bright for your son! Good luck the rest of the way!

No worries, I appreciate your kind comments about Alex. Stirring it up seems to be what this board is about so no problem there. Thanks a bunch
  12. It was already stated there was 1.5lb difference in the dual. Not nearly enough to be of any significance.

    Hey,

I'm Alex's dad. Alex is a big 106. I don't know how much Simpson cuts for 113 but regardless Alex often wrestles at 113 and does fine, so Alex, me nor his mom is using that as an excuse for him losing to Simpson.

Also choosing bottom was the right call at the time. He's usually good off bottom and down by two having come very close to a reversal in the 1st period, bottom was the logical choice. So no excuses for that either. Probably won't do it next time though, but at the time it made the most sense

Fact of the matter is Simpson just out wrestled Alex on that day. No excuses. Alex could have taken an (I assume) easier match at 106 but he stepped up to try and help his team and to also challenge himself against a very good wrestler in Simpson in a dual meet that largely means nothing in the overall scheme of things. In my opinion that's how you get better. And I'm really proud of him for stepping up and giving it a shot.

It's been such a good experience for Alex to wrestle varsity as an 8th grader. He loves being on the team and being able to contribute.

I appreciate all the nice things some of you have said about Alex .

Apologies for getting long winded. I wrote this to say alex nor his family are making excuses about the loss. Simpson wrestled a great match. I'd like to say good job to Him and the whole Father Ryan team. We hope to have a better showing next time
