TSSAA's ruling on this is going to be very interesting. (2) playing on non-school (independent) teams (and then transferring to that coach's school) does not clearly say the high school coach has to be the independent coach? Could being a member of the independent teams organization count? If so there are a few other high school coaches that are members of other travel basketball organizations in Tennessee. This could get interesting.

Anyone ever heard of a benefactor? Boosters pay for athletes to attend CA. Unfair advantage.
As much as we've heard this in the last 25+ years I really wish it would be reported and not just an urban legend.
No benefactor is needed with our MCPS teams right now, just a good recruiter. Good players are allowed to go to our bigger schools and play sports that their zoned school has. Definitely an unfair advantage for our smaller schools.

I actually agree with some of what you said. I believe all privates should play privates including the ones that aren't very good. I also think public should play public and even the ones that aren't very good. I also feel their should be more divisions to help out the very small schools. It doesn't matter how hard a team like Hampshire practices they will never beat CA or even Mt. Pleasant due to their size and talent level. Privates play privates and publics play publics because they just operate differently. Also, add more divisions to help out the smaller schools.
Even the private vs private and public vs public won't be truly fair. It will only satisfy the parents or kids that hate the idea of private schools beating us.
We have kids attending and playing at our public schools in Maury County that aren't even zoned for the public school they are playing at. Which isn't any different than what the private schools are allowed to doing to us.
Once you take out private and public charter schools there are not but a hand full of schools in Tennessee that have the small enrollment numbers that Hampshire or even Santa Fe has. That's a whole other topic!

I could really care less. CA recruited and stole your point guard out of Mt. Pleasant Middle and then used him to beat you for the next four years. If that is fine with you then so be it. I don't any affiliation with any Maury County team. I just know how CA operates and recruits because they came after my son and we don't even live in Maury County.
Like tigersfan said, if they really did try and recruit your son, why didn't you turn them into TSSAA? Instead, you start a thread on CoachT.com about them needing to move to Division II when by TSSAA's current rules they don't have to. SMH, because yeah, that makes sense.

Region 3: Van Buren County has Caden Mills returning, so with any supporting cast the Eagles could return to the State Tournament.
Region 5: Columbia Academy only had two seniors last year and are returning all but one starter from a team that made a semifinals run in last years State Tournament.
Region 6: Loretto is returning a number of players from their State Tournament team and added an actual basketball coach.
Only problem with Lake Co. is that they are still in the same district as Union City and Region with Humboldt.
Region 8: Watch W.E.B. Dubois and MASE

CA is a private school and should play in the private division. That settles it.
TSSAA Rules allow it. So, that's what truly settles it.
Division II "private division" is for all schools that provide financial aid which CA doesn't at this time.

Agreed! Boyd is going to be missed.

Again, if TSSAA rules allow it then there is no issue. Columbia Academy is not making the rules they are just working within the TSSAA rules.
Heck, there are kids within our MCPS that are playing for schools outside their zoned area, in sports that their zoned school has? What's the difference? It appears TSSAA rules allow that as well.
District 11A has been ruled by Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Academy the last eight years. Mt. Pleasant won four in a row before Columbia Academy won the last four. Mt. Pleasant had a down year this past year but should be on the way back up.
What do you mean the last two years they have begun to compete? They have won the last four district championships and have been to the state the last three out of four years. They do run a bus everyday to the crossings in spring hill to drop off kids and parents take them back to Williamson county. Why are they one of the few private schools in the state to still play in division 1? They enjoy winning and the $$$ that comes with it. They would be average if they were in a district with other private schools that operate like they do. They know this that's why they are trying their best to stay in division 1.

So, if the district schools have enough information to stop playing Columbia Academy then why don't they report that information to the TSSAA, so Columbia Academy can be investigated and punished?
To cry foul and to stop playing during the regular season just seem to be a childish way to handle the situation. When I played coaches & players got up for the games against your best competition. We were not taught to run and hide from them.
If a school doesn't like the rules set forth by the TSSAA then boycott the TSSAA.
All teams still have to play when it counts and from what's returning in boys basketball Columbia Academy and Mt. Pleasant will be your top 2 teams in the new District 10A by far.

Now with CA out of the way can Maury County address the real issue? To many small schools! Tennessee has moved away from multiple small unit schools. Being in the very bottom of enrollment there is no way Hampshire and Santa Fe can compete across the board in Single A outside Maury County.
Beside Mt. Pleasant none of the Maury County Boys high school teams have won a single region game since Cully did with the Columbia transfers back in 2008-2009. The failure to win a region game by all this local teams had nothing to do with CA.
It's definitely time to make a change!
Another note: CA will struggle across the board in sports for a few years but once a few Maury County athletes transfer there, with the financial aid, they will be fine in the main sports. (football, basketball, baseball and softball)
