Not sure. I was under the impression they were moved from 5A to 6A by TSSAA after new student number projections came in. I cant find an article that explains why they were switched from 5A to 6A now though. If it was of their own doing someone needs their tail kicked. They don’t have the talent to be a playoff team in 2A.
Didn't the school open with grades 9-12? If projections were accurate and the school has grades 9-12 then they are classified correctly. Classifications are not based on ability to compete. If they are then lots of schools out there are not in their proper classification

Rumors are coach has been talking to Fayetteville to replace their retiring coach.

The coach has led the team to the playoff a few times in his tenure. Before then the Wildcats went 20-25 years without making the playoffs. It will take more than a coaching change to get to a higher level.

Great games to watch- too bad they do not play. Big school- small school issues, recruiting, parents getting mad at coach and transferring, egos, etc... All probably play into decision.

Schools that open with large numbers of freshmen and sophomores such as this have a choice to make- either play a jv schedule for the next year or two or choose to play a varsity schedule. If they choose to play at the varsity level they should play where the classification rules land them. You are correct that someone in charge should make the ultimate decision- in this case the "someone" would have been the school administration in choosing varsity vs jv, and not the TSSAA in making a special exception for them to be placed into a classification lower than their anticipated competitive abilities.
