Football is officially back! The atmosphere at the Westview vs Dresden game last night was AWESOME, but after watching WV I don't understand all the hype. #1 seems to be their only offense, after him it seemed pretty much stagnant. How do you think opening night will go for the rest of the region?

    Bolivar @ Fayette Ware

    Dyer County @ Dyersburg

    Ripley @ Jackson Southside

    JCM @ Liberty

    Covington @ Munford

    McNairy @ Humboldt

    Scotts Hill @ Lexington

Definitely a rebuilding year, but boy the talent is there. They will be dangerous in years to come! As for the other teams in the region, Dyersburg for sure will get this one tonight. Covington probably falls to Munford & Scotts Hill to Lexington. Ripley and Bolivar's games are really a toss up, have to see what team shows up to play. Looking forward to a great night of football though! :thumb:

  2. I've been hearing mixed reviews on Westview.  A couple of weeks ago many were saying they could really compete in Region 7-3A, now I'm hearing it's more of a rebuild year. One thing is for sure about this game, it's a HUGE rivalry over in Weakley County and both teams will be prepared to play for those yearly bragging rights. I personally agree with the assumption that Westview is in a rebuild. They lost a lot to graduation and while they still have talent, that talent is young and raw right now. Dresden is the better team in this match up this year, but the Chargers definitely won't rollover and give it to them. I'll take the Lions 28-14! :thumb:

Week 3 will decide this region

Week 3 will for sure decide who is finishing 1st & 2nd in this region. Dyersburg is loaded this year and Covington is Covington, we know they will reload and be the champion or runner up in this region. The fight in my opinion is for 3rd & 4th. Westview, Ripley, and Bolivar are the 3 I favor to be fighting for those final two spots. I've heard all the talk about Westview, but they lost a lot up front and Hamilton was Mr. Everything for them, they should compete for one of the final two spots in this region with the athletes they have, but it could be a growing year for them. Ripley returned a lot, but you never know what you are going to get from them. Bolivar I hear is much improved, but we will have to see if it is enough to secure a playoff spot. :thumb:

    My pick: #1 Dyersburg

                    #2 Covington

                    #3 Ripley

                    #4 Westview

  4. I think this will be a really good game this year. Dyersburg is returning a lot, but Dyer County has looked fairly good in their preseason scrimmages. But after losing to the Choctaws last year when they really didn't expect to, I believe Stowe will have that team out for a little revenge this year. Trojans by 2 TDs! :thumb:

  5. Union City wins this region, that's not even a question. Everyone else is fighting for those other 3 spots. Dresden & Lake County take the 2nd and 3rd spot in no particular order, then it is a straight battle for that 4th and final spot. I know Humboldt is much improved, I've heard the same about Halls, and I've heard a lot of talk about South Fulton's offense. It should be interesting to watch it play out this season, but I'll take Halls at 4 for now! :thumb:

Maybe the toughest region in 2A in the state top to bottom. This region has the historic rivalry of the dog and pony show in it as well as former multiple time state champion in recent years Peabody, and last years 2A runner up in Riverside in it. With Milan, Huntingdon, Riverside, Peabody, JCM, Camden, Adamsville and Gibson County in the same region this will be fun to watch. How will it play out? Thoughts?

Riverside's region to lose. They have to be the heavy favorite after last season and the pieces they return. Peabody looks to be in rebuild mode, but Huntingdon and Milan will make a push at Riverside in this region. My opinion, 1. Riverside 2. Milan 3. Huntingdon...that 4 spot is TBD. :thumb:

  7. Dyersburg hasn't lost since the last time they played Covington and guess what, it doesn't matter! Dyersburg has basically played inner city Memphis teams since they last matched up, Ripley & Millington pretty much fit that mold too. This is not going to be a game, definitely not worth spending money and sitting in the cold for. Build up all the hype you want for this game, but Covington wins by at least 3 TDs! :thumb:

  8. The Tornadoes get the Chargers the second time around. If I remember correctly, Union City was missing some key players in the last match up but are back healthy now. Westview losing their QB is a big deal. #17 Hamilton is a heck of a player, their is a reason he's a semifinalist for Mr. Football, but moving him to QB is putting a little too much on his plate in my opinion. Westview's offense becomes a little one dimensional when your best WR is now playing QB. Union City takes this game by 2 TDs. :thumb:

  9. I was shocked to see the Rebels get out of Memphis with a win, like big shocked. So it wouldn't surprise me now if they did find a way to upset the Bulldogs and advance to the 3rd round. Hopefully Johnny has had a week full of rest and relaxation because they are going to need to ride him again to pull out a win in this match up! Rebels by a TD! :thumb:

According to the Sonny Moore Power ranking  its pretty much a pick em. Tough game to pick. Ripley lost to Dyersburg last season, but defeated them the two years prior, and Dyersburg won a lot prior to that. Seems like they have a good little rivalry going.

A lot on the line for both teams here and definitely a tough pick. Ripley's offense hasn't been very good of late, but the defense seems to be playing well. Dyersburg is coming in rested after a week off while Ripley put forth a nice effort against Westview in a 21-7 ball game. Dyersburg is at home, but I like Ripley's defense. I may regret this but I'll take the Tigers over the Trojans in a close ball game! :thumb:

Ripley ought to be just as embarrassed!! Haywood and Ripley boy have an awful long history . Why would y’all end the game??

I get that it's a long standing rivalry and everything, but what would Dyersburg or Ripley gain from playing Haywood? What would Haywood gain from playing these two? I think we can all agree that Haywood would have their way with both of them, whether it be this year or last year, neither team is on Haywood's level. Haywood's got some grown men in that locker room, more than Dyersburg & Ripley combined. I don't blame either team for not playing them right now, gotta do what's best for your team at the end of the day. :thumb:
