  1. Raider, I think Grundy only has 2 full time coaches. The head coach seems like a good guy and the offensive coach is doing the best he can I think. They are just very weak in their knowledge of teaching football or they aren't putting in the time and effort to have the team prepared. I don't know if change in head coaches is coming or not. No one seems to know anything with a new principal and superintendent to be hired in December. I can only hope that one day Grundy gets the right man in charge of the football program for the kids sake.
  2. Grundy & Sequatchie both finished tied for the 4th spot and we got it due to the head-to--head win. Last Friday night was a game that we could have won. Our kids always play hard it just seems they aren't running the best schemes for the players.
  3. Yes, great win for the jackets! The kids deserve to experience winning. They have shown a lot of commitment to the sport and the coaching staffs for sure. Hopefully they will have a chance of finishing the season with another win against Smith county
  4. Bushhog02, you are right with your opinion. I'm with you. The problem is that a middle school or little league running the same offense will not do a bit of good at the varsity level if they do not have the right kind of leadership running the football program. For whatever reason, leadership has been missing for a long long time at Grundy. We have good facilities, a nice weight room/fieldhouse, good kids, a jr. pro football program already established with its own stadium and lots of support for the entire program. People may think I'm crazy but if Grundy ever hires the right coach who has a clue what he is doing, the yellow jackets will be a very tough football team to deal with here on the mountain. The new superintendent needs to be allowed to make their own hire meaning without any help from the board members and then be held accountable for their hire.
  5. Raider man, I don't know. I see Grundy play every week and looking at the players in the pre-game I say there is no way we should be a one win team. We have some athletes that just aren't being utilized. Our lineman aren't being taught how to block at all and teams just tee off on our backs and qb. Our defense is not very good either. Teams that wanted to could score a whole lot more points on us if they wanted. I don't know man, it is pretty discouraging watching what the program has become the last few years. Never thought I would see it this bad. Whitwell was the worst high school football I think I have ever seen so I'm not sure we can stay close in the Seq. and Smith games.
  6. Does anyone know what the future plans look like for Grundy Football??? They are getting a new Director, a new principal and a new athletic director so I would think there would be some football changes soon. So far the head coach's 3 year record is 1-24, with a current 24 game losing streak, so surely to goodness someone with some common sense will make a change when the new folks are hired.
  7. What in the world is going on up on the mountain?? They are trying to get rid of another school superintendant and now the football coach is quitting mid-season on the players! That's awful. Shame on the coach for quitting (if its true) and shame on the school board for always squabbling and firing good people. Every football hire since they ran off the Bryant brothers has been another step backwards. Someone needs to get control and demand grown-ups do what's best for the kids.
  8. What's the outlook for the Yellow Jackets Friday night? No news coming out of Grundy's camp so don't know what to expect. Hoping the Jackets will be more competitive than the last 2 years. Tough way to start the season against Grider and the Boys.
  9. Very quiet here on the mountain. No news from anyone concerning football. I think the powers to be have chosen to get in their bunkers and try to protect themselves for the explosion coming their way. It's ugly now but it's going to get a lot worse and rock bottom for Grundy football is still no where in site.
  10. Papalegba, I agree with most of what you said except the last part. Yes, they need to have stability and continuity and support the coach. And their current coach is an excellent guy and maybe even a good role model but no head coach worth his salary should have to count on an assistant to come in and run his offense or defense to be successful. The head coach should know what he wants done and be able to take over either side of the ball in a situation like his. Who in the world are they going to be able to get as a quality assistant at Grundy to come in and solve his problems? Maybe a good pay caller on a play station game but that is no better than where they are now. This football program has taken a pounding over the last few years (yes since they fired Coach Bryant) and it is only going to get worse with the current direction they are going.
  11. Yes the Grundy Board members are elected. There has been numerous different school board members over the years. Trouble is there is only one culture in Grundy Co. They can't get out of their own way because it's always a Hatfield vs McCoy mentality. It's like our current political system...they can't agree on anything and everyone is only out for themselves, not what is best for the Grundy kids. That's the problem plain and simple and those that know Grundy know its 100% true! How about it Raider1234??
  12. I don't know what exactly happened with tate. Alot of folks didn't seem to like him because of the way he talked to and treated the players. I always thought he did a pretty good job with the talent he had and felt he would eventually get things turned around. Then the hazing incident happened and that was the end of tate. Im pretty sure they were really concerned about the lack of supervision and discipline within the program to.
  13. Yes Mac is a good coach but to much negative baggage comes with that guy. Grundy doesn't need anymore negative attention. They have enough as it is.
  14. Was told that Grundy still doesn't have an OC. They were looking at Mac McCurry who was fired as HC at Franklin Co. Don't know what happened but it doesn't sound like it will be him. It is not going to be pretty on the mountain again this fall. There HC doesn't know anything about offense and what good assistant would want to go to Grundy to do all the work to try and save his job? I don't think he knows much about defense but they blame their problems all on offense. The former AD got them in this mess and they need to get out of it before the 1-19 record becomes 1-29 and the program has the longest losing streak in the state.
  15. BeachHound unfortunately I must agree with you. It really is a shame because the right knowledgeable coach could do alot of good with them grundy boys. Good facilities, good kids. Just the adults don't do whats best for kids on the mountain. Its all about who gets to make the next big decision to please their on followers. Ive seen it going on for years but always hoped it would change but its not. kids deserve better!!
  16. I agree the culture needs to change but I'm a little different in that I believe it needs to start with the board and central office. Way to much back stabbing at the top and it all flows downhill from there. I agree I don't know why a coach would want to go to Grundy but they do have some big boys and good athletes. I think the coach they have now is a real good guy but he is probably best to be an assistant. Just to unorganized and doesn't appear to know how to run a football team. Running the stuff he learned in the pros is not working on the mountain.
  17. Grundy should not be 1-19 over the last 2 years. They have had some athletes that are capable of winning football games up on the mountain. They should consider bringing Scott Smith back since he was railroaded out of Dodge a couple weeks before the season began in 2018. I think he would have won some games for them had the A.D. at the time not been able to fire him and bring in the coach they have now. That has proved to be a total train wreck!
  18. What kind of talent does Grundy have coming back for next season? I know they lost the Nunley kid who was Mr. everything for them and still finished 0-10. 2 yrs ago they had both Nunley brothers and went just 1-9. The jr. jackets were awful last year and were blown out every game. how do they expect the program to improve with the same coach and less talent, less coaches and less numbers coming back??
  19. Fella's, I dont think the problem is with the assistant coaches. They might want to look at the person running the program for the last 2 years. just saying...
  20. Did they ever hire the 2 new assistants they were advertising for? The yellow jackets have the facilities and school enrollment number to support being respectable every year. Lately they haven't come close to being respectable. What's the deal on the mountain??
