  1. Could be a end of a era for Bolivar. Not much in the system. This Bolivar team was really good but for some reason they played like crap in the first half of the game. Good luck southside and Liberty. Make 14aa proud. I'M OUT! :popcorneater:

This game could have been different. SS came out on fire and couldn't miss. Bolivar couldn't hit a bucket. Bolivar fought back, but when Polk went out with the knee injury and McKinnie couldn't come back in because of his injury, we couldn't get it going. We still had a shot to win it, but couldn't do it this time.

Bolivar always reloads. We will be back strong next year.

  2. I agree with the last post. Bolivar did win the first meeting by 13 points but Liberty Tech isn't as bad as the McNairy guy makes them out to be. It will probably be a "standing room only" crowd tonight for this one. If Bolivar wins then they pretty much lock up the District 14-AA regular season title. If Liberty Tech wins then both teams are dead even and the stretch run would be very interesting.

Stretch run is going to be interesting. Bolivar lost by 3.

If both teams win out, how do they decide who gets #1 in District for tournament seeding?

  3. They aren't as talented as they were the year they went to the quarter finals, but the win tonight will go a long way to help the boys begin to believe in themselves again. Way to fight for that victory boys. That was one exciting game down to the last second!

big win for them tonight. Great crowd for Homecoming. The Tigers have to believe in themselves now. They fought hard and didn't give up even when the outcome looked bleak. We should be able to ride this momentum shift and get back into the picture as a contender in the district.

    Way to go Tigers.

  4. I wasn't at the game tonite but I do know that in the past Bolivar-Liberty games have been tuff to officiate. Both teams play hard and fast and the refs are often caught out of position.

yeah, i can understand that. but the refs were missing things right in front of their eyes and it seemed to just be making some calls up.

  5. Bolivar overcomes refs and liberty to win in double OT

The headline should read "Despite refs best effort, Bolivar wins."

I don't want to take anything away from Liberty. They played well as always. The refs were equally bad on both sides of the ball. The entire gym knew what a walk looked like EXCEPT the three guys in stripes. No calls on several occasions. It was clear the refs wanted to be the stars of the show, not the players on the court.

    Congrats Bolivar.

  6. One other thing, the foul count in the second half was somewhere around 18 to 7? I know that would not have made a difference in the ball game but it would have been nice to have seen some of those calls go the other way!

It's not like it mattered, we couldn't hit a free throw to save our life for awhile. A lot of fouls on LA came from them trying to keep Murphy from going upcourt and thus drawing the blocking call.

Still, that foul disparity is still better than what Bolivar had last year against Howard. It was something like 20-4 or some ridiculous number.

  7. Sounds like your everyday "We have poor schedule strength," excuse to me. You did a good job at wording it a little different here and there, though. I'll give you credit for that. LA has played a tough schedule and trust me, they aren't worn down after their season. I don't think anyone with a brain could think that a team that makes it to the 'boro is worn down. Everybody gains some extra energy from somewhere once you get to Murfreesboro.

In the future, just don't disguise excuses like you tried to do...just own up to them. LET'S GO LA!!!

    LEAVE NO DOUBT!!!

    Sincerely,

    Wildcat324

I don't think I was trying to use the "We have poor schedule strength" excuse or disguise anything. I was stating that teams like Liberty, Jackson Northside (1 point loss on a last second shot), and a few others are offset by teams that win a few or no games at all. We don't play the Sisters of the Poor every game.

Also, I don't believe it takes into account the 4 point loss to the, if i heard correctly, 3-time Alabama champ during a tournament. I might be wrong on that schools record, but from what I understand they are a fantastic team.

In addition to that, if you take into account my posting on HS athletic rankings, you'd see where SoS still doesn't really matter, but while we are talking it, I'll use it.

I was being somewhat facetious about LA being worn down. My lack of smiley usage probably failed to drive that across though.

Both teams have played top talent, no doubt. At this point, SoS, records, and ranking mean nothing. It's going to be about who plays the best ball and plays under control.

  8. I hope Bolivar's team takes that same attitude Wednesday against LA. They will be jumping up and down headed for home on I-40 West.

I just noticed that tough schedule you all play weekly.....SOS rank 81 out of 112 teams...LA rank #11 out of 112.

    Don't sound all that tough to me /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Some of the stronger teams we play are offset by the weakness of others. No doubt that LA played a tough schedule, but it's not like Bolivar is playing against weak competition all year. Maybe LA is worn down from a tough season. Who knows? Also, I believe most level-headed fans don't put much faith into rankings, especially at the high school level.

I'd almost wager Mr. Butts is a LA fan trying to stir up the fan base. Good tactic.
