I totally get playing your best guys on whichever side of the ball, but man you would think a school the size of DB would have enough athletes to have a separate O and D.

Most of the guys that are going both ways are subs on one side of the ball. There is maybe a TE that starts on offense and defense. I think there might be three to four that play a good amount of time on both sides of the ball.

Are you sure???      DB is now the third largest high school in the state of Tennessee, and you are telling us that they can't find 6 skilled defensive backs out of 2,364 students??

    https://tssaa.org/2020-fall-enrollments

    1 Collierville High School 2,865
    2 Bartlett High School 2,768
3 Dobyns Bennett High School 2,364
4 Science Hill High School 2,285
    5 Cookeville High School 2,265
    6 McGavock High School 2,256
    7 Cordova High School 2,252
    8 Arlington High School 2,157
9 Jefferson Co. High School 2,079
    10 Smyrna High School 2,043

I’m pretty sure Smyrna is the last one of those schools that has won a championship in 2010. There are more factors than just school size that are important.

Yeah, I don’t totally buy the line that it’s lack of coaching anymore. Teddy & Dustin Gaines the past 2 years, Malik Foreman last year, and Devaun Swafford this year working with the DBs. Those are some of/if not the best skill position players that have come through Kingsport working with the guys on a daily basis. Like Waco said Teddy has a ton of experience coaching those guys and has done it at a lot of different levels successfully. At this point I think other than our kicking game it is just our weakest position we have talent wise.

We are on the same page. Secondary coaching isn’t the issue.

You know when Teddy Gains came in last year to coach the defensive backs I thought, no more problems in the secondary. A home run hire. Gains played on a National Championship team in college, played in the NFL, and has coached on 6 different small college teams. DB has good athletes playing back there. I know Gains is a good coach with a lot of experience. I just don't get it. Maybe they need to bring in a witchdoctor or something.

Your right. Gaines knows what he is doing. You can see him coaching them up on the sidelines. Also, in the last few years Gerald Sensabaugh, Foreman, and Swafford have also helped back there. For some reason it just isn’t coming all together.

Am I correct that the Boone AD is the father of Patrick Good, the ETSU bb player who just opted out of playing this year despite the fact that he tested positive for COVID recently and therefore presumably was not at risk of contracting it again himself anytime soon?  Just wondering if they may share an unrealistically paranoid view of the COVID situation.

No, Patrick’s father is John Good.

No I absolutely agree.  It's odd that when other teams in Sullivan County had one case, they shut the programs down.  DB has, from what I heard, multiple cases yet it wasn't shut down.  If the JV kids who got it were separated then that is fine and good, but from the outside looking in it just seems not likely that those kids haven't been around one another.  On paper at least.  I was hoping this game would happen.

I’m a DB fan and I’m with you. It just isn’t a good look for DB to have the visiting team cancel the game because they are trying to protect their players from the home teams players.

that sucks, i can understand in normal times but during a pandemic schools should really let media stream or have in house streaming for games

Yep, with mass gatherings still being discouraged it really doesn’t make to much sense to not live stream.

The D'backs were as good as they could have played and is one of the best (if not) defensive backfields in a couple of decades for the Indians.

I don’t think I would go this far yet. We have had some really good players in the last two decades with more athletic tools. I do think these kids are well coached and they play hard. Coach Gaines knows that position very well and he is doing a great job. Further, these kids have gotten a very special opportunity that not many before them at DB have experienced. These kids have gotten to soak in knowledge from some guys who have played db at the highest level in the NCAA and have graced an NFL field.

I also want to give a shoutout to Coach Hayworth. Since he arrived to the staff a few years ago there has been a drastic difference in the line play. I remember that game a few years ago at Greeneville it was obvious the line play was different.

Well I can't think for him or his family and I have no ideal about everything involved. All I can do is think about what I would do. If I'm just sitting around with nothing to do and practice has started at a school that I'm planning on transferring to then I'm gonna' head on over. No matter how good he is there is going to be a lot of work to do joining a new team and new system. A lot to get used to.

He has to go through the proper procedures or he could be ruled ineligible.
