I have always thought the same teams were played on there every single year seems like. Personally, I welcome a few new additions. I get tired of watching the same teams year in year out.

Plus it is "rivalry" Thursday. It makes sense to have more rivalries.

It was good to hear kids and parents/fans positive comments about the program. Dang, it was long overdue. NOBODY likes to lose. The QB may have been the best player in the area and hard to replace. Or maybe not that hard?

If you look back at the last 10 to 15 years of WB football, we haven't had many good athletic QBs. The only ones prior to Cortez that come to mind for me are Saunders and Myrick and Saunders was only really effective after he started to click in that new pistol offense in the second half of the 2011 season. My point is WB found ways to win 3 or 4 games against tough schedules without an athletic QB who could make things happen on his own. That's not to say that I wouldn't prefer to have a QB like Cortez every year, but that's not realistic. I'm ready to see really good receivers suit up for WB again. We've had so many good ones over the years. We are due for another Isaiah Hannah or Joel Graham type receiver.

Real question. Do you call last night “competitive “?

To answer your question, because you're so thick headed, I didn't expect to be tied at halftime. Especially after what transpired before the game even started. The way we played in that first half after that showed that the team has a competitive spirit now. That's something that has been lacking mostly for a decade. And the fact that we finally executed to end the half was a positive move in the right direction. We have a lot of young players and limited depth and we also had several injuries to starters throughout the game, which is something you conveniently haven't mentioned. That certainly had an impact on how the second half transpired. Oh, and our AD got removed from the sideline in the second half and we got a sideline warning because he simply pointed out that a Jeff Co player was offsides. They didn't flag Jeff County and gave us a sideline warning. That type of homefield advantage is hard to overcome for a young team with limited depth dealing with injuries. But I'm satisfied that we showed up ready to play and made you sweat for awhile. I don't think you were so cocky when we tied it up with 10 seconds left in the half.  Like I said, I'm proud of our effort all season.  We will keep getting better.

Not trying to be a rear-end but scoring 28 points on a team in a half and calling it a moral victory is like telling the players they're 'Champions of Life'.   Yes, it was a good thing for a half, but......

What is it with all these outsider fans without context chiming in? 1OldPatriot talked all season about how we were only scoring points and having offensive success because of our weak schedule and we came out and dropped more on Jeff County in a half than anyone else has all year. We also did it when we had a player carted off the field for an injury before the game even started and it was on the road against the region champs. We were 0-10 last year and weren't competitive in any games and this year we finished with a winning record for the first time in over a decade and competed hard all season. I'm proud of our players and coaches.

Your young backs didn’t gain 20 yds in the second half. I love that you support your team so well, but they aren’t any good. Jeff relaxed in the 2nd qtr and allowed 21 points. You had 2 first downs until the last drive when Jeff had all backups in. Then you got a couple and Reeves calls a TO down 40 with 5s left to try and get one in the endzone. That is a loser mentality

We still scored 28 points on you in one half. That's probably more than anyone else has scored on you all season. The first half is part of the game too. Just saying. Also, is that a loser mentality? Or is it a loser mentality to have your starters in until the very end when you have a big lead because you got embarrassed in the first half.

WB threw a pick on their first drive, punted on second drive and was down 14-0. Then, on 3rd and 25, their QB ran around and threw up a punt. 3 JC defenders watched the WB receiver catch it. Just dumb. WB proceeded to score on that drive. Then Jeff’s defense when brain dead and couldn’t line up for 3 drives. Just lost focus against a bad team. Went in, made adjustments and took an #### chewing, came out and treated WB to a 40-0 half. The teams WB beat have a combined record of 11-42, with 5 of those wins coming against other team WB beat.

I will say that the QB is a good athlete and escape artist. Just no help. And the defense … oh my

You mean the WB offense settled in and started having success like it has all year? My biggest takeaway from this game is that we finally executed to end the half. We didn't do that against Science Hill or Dobyns Bennett and it was sweet to do it on the road.

If they win you'll be eating crow for making this status. Scoring 28 points Is no reason to celebrate unless you win, if yall win sure, but even if you lose by a touchdown he proved his point and his team got the 1 seed going into the playoffs

No, it's a moral victory because he has said our offense was a product of our weak schedule all season. We moved the ball at will and ran the ball effectively. Our performance proves that we are a solid 6A program that is getting better.

  8. I hope 1OldPatriot shows up to eat his crow after WB hung 28 on his club at home in one half. Most don't believe in moral victories, but this proves that sometimes they are real. WB has marched the ball up and down the field on Jeff County's defense all half. The difference is we actually executed at the end of the half unlike the Science Hill and DB games. 1OldPatriot gave the Govs a lot of motivation all season long. The Govs are coming for you!

  9. The field just came up a few days ago. We're joining basically every other team in the state. It was fitting that the last season for the grass at Mike White Field was a good one, but I do have to admit that I'm sad to see the grass go because I have a lot of good memories associated with that field.

Because no one cared until guys started saying how they could upset SH and DB and the like. Then reality hit like a brick

We were in both games in the 2nd half. So those weren't bad predictions. Saying a team has the potential to pull upsets is not the same as talking trash and expecting a win. Any way, what is your problem? Worry about your own team....

Find it funny how at the beginning of the season no one was saying anything about WM Blount Schedule, and how easy or “cupcake” it was. But now, as soon as the Governors have success and win six games, everyone is complaining about the schedule. Anyone who has a brain cell knows how improved this team is from last year. Last year’s team probably goes 1-9 this year with the one win being Union County. And for the Billy Blount folks, can we not just be happy and celebrate what the players, coach Reeves, and everyone involved has done over the past 12 months?  Team went from scoring 99 points in 2022 to breaking the school record this season for total points. That is remarkable.

Yeah. And guys on CoachT who know nothing about this program don't understand that it's noteworthy for WB to win all the games we should win. In the past, we have always found ways to lose a few we shouldn't. Last night was the kind of game we lost in the past and we won 55-14. That's worth celebrating and getting excited for the future.

  12. The last time we beat DB in Kingsport we had a big time receiver. A guy who could catch a TD pass in triple coverage at Bradley Central. The sad thing is he could have been even more of a threat with good coaching and a good culture. When we have another athlete or two like that take the field at WB we'll start winning games against the good teams again.

WB and Heritage will never be good. Not enough talent for Alcoa and Maryville to be dominant and then too.

Except WB and Heritage have both had good teams at times when Maryville and Alcoa have been good. Like when we had Scott Meadows.  One of those teams would whip Jeff County.

My question to WB fans who will replace your best player the QB next year. I can't imagine someone that could walk in your present QB's Shadow. This is a top notch athlete we're talking about and has been the biggest reason for some of your wins. I watched bits and pieces of last night's game and the big long run he made. I hope they have someone ready to fill those shoes or it's back to the bottom again next year.

I'm sure we will have a serviceable QB. My biggest question is will we have a dominant receiver again next year finally? We are due one because we usually have one and haven't the last few years. An Isaiah Hannah or Joel Graham type receiver would make this team a whole lot better.

  15. On a serious note, you keep saying people were bragging about WB being world beaters after getting some wins against an easy early schedule. I haven't seen anybody do that. That's in your head. The reality is people were excited about an offense that looked good compared to what we've seen the past 3 years or so. And that offensive success has carried over into the tougher games too. We actually out gained DB in total yards from what I heard. This team will keep getting better. We have a lot of young guys. We were like maybe 4 or 5 plays away from being right in that game at the end. That's all it takes to get boat raced by a good team on the scoreboard. I'm encouraged by what I've seen. I actually think this program has a good future now under the current regime.
