Hey Doug, can you show that contract you having been spewing at the mouth about? Wanna talk all that cap back it up. U won’t Bcse u can’t!! lol knowing who you actually are makes it even funnier. You are Mr. Irrelevant

Bro, please stop, you are not funny and you are casting a bad light on the Cleveland program, which I know is not in any way represented by you, but its bad taste and quite annoying. Leave your bitterness in the other thread and move on. I promise your life will feel more fulfilling if you just let the little things go.

Mistakenly?  You have been around the middle Tennesse area long enough to know that Father Ryan is a High School.  A High School only can't wrestle 8th graders.  For those getting on me, you need to settle down.  I called him out for a lie and many got defensive.  Think about it.  I guess from now on everybody can just say what they think might be corect.  You go with it.

Also, just to clarify per the TSSAA handbook, 8th graders can wrestle in high school if,

    "2023-24 TSSAA Handbook Page 15 July 18, 2023

    Eighth Grade Participation Section 8.

An eighth grade student is eligible to participate for a member school if he/she is enrolled at the school. Students below the eighth grade are not eligible to practice or participate for a member school. Any student repeating the eighth grade shall not be eligible for high school participation during the year that the student is repeating the eighth grade. Participation as an eighth grader shall not reduce the number of semesters a student is allowed to participate after enrolling in the ninth grade."

In the case of many of the Class A high schools that participate in wrestling they have eight graders on the team.

Honestly man, the reason everyone is calling you out isn't because we think that what WrestlingGod said is true but because you blew this whole situation out of proportion. You came off as incredibly offended when a simple mistake was made and all that you had to do was call him out and say "Hey Father Ryan actually has never had an 8th grader on their team because they don't not have a middle school." But, you instead got defensive when we all called you out on your childish behavior.

No one here hates you but life sure would be a lot easier for us and certainly for you if you acted appropriately.

    Sincerely an innocent bystander.

I will liten up when you stop lying.  Plain and simple.

Still waiting on when Ryan ever used an 8th grader to wrestle.  Please advise.

Chill man, I am sure it was a mistake, nobody intentionally tried to offend you or Father Ryan. There are bigger things in the world to worry about than an offhand statement made on a podcast about high school wrestling.

  4. Hit the weight room... jk, don't worry about weight lifting until you at least get to high school.

There are weight classes for a reason, most of the people you will wrestle against in competition will be the same weight have relatively the same strength so you shouldn't get ragdolled. But in practice its ok to push yourself to wrestle bigger and stronger opponents. Just make sure you work on the fundamentals and don't get discouraged by losing to someone bigger than you during practice, that has happened to everyone that has stepped foot on a high school wrestling mat.

As for strategies to deal with strength, you could counter strength with technique and speed, but really it depends on how much stronger he is than you, there is only so much you can do against someone that is that much stronger and again that goes back to fair competition and not getting discouraged. Good luck.

By your logic,  the toughest wrestlers were in that region. Those people were still at state,  were they not?  If the Halls kids were in a soft region, shouldn't they get smoked by the toughest collection of wrestlers from the toughest region?  But they didn't.  If a kid is a scrub but qualified for state due to being in a soft region he will get smoked at state.  Seen it too many times.

Your logic isn't sound, you aren't considering multiple variables which is there is varying levels of competition and the 13 Halls kids didn't only wrestle against the Pigeon Forge, Greeneville, and Soddy kids at state, they wrestle against kids that qualify from various other teams. So they did have an advantage by qualifying more wrestlers even if those "soft" wrestlers only won one or two matches. Those points add up to a usually very tight A-AA individual state tournament team score race. Sometimes they do get "smoked" as you say but the 12 out of the 16 wrestlers per bracket win at least one match, so chances are they will earn extra points that can make a difference when its all said and done.

The more the merrier.  Bigger is better.

From what I can see, most of the coaches who want to do away with 106 and see less weight classes are from smaller locales and struggling to fill weights.  We always have small guys in my area.  I rarely ever see a forfeit at 106 when big school competes with big school.

What we really need to do is attract more kids to wrestling.  Worrying about seeing only the best match ups and forcing the top guys to compete in the same weight class sounds appealing to a lot of you, but its small minded thinking in my opinion and a quick means to an end for the growth and traction that HS wrestling has gained in recent years. Those top guys are going to compete anyway.

As already stated, most kids don't win state in wrestling.  Most don't even get a state medal.  We need to stop trying to fix boring duals by reducing the # of weight classes.  Fix that problem by growing our kids clubs and increasing the number of wrestling participants.

Great point, the reduction of weight classes is a band-aid solution and the actual root cause is the low level of youth participation.

In my opinion this is the harder but more efficient way of creating "better matchups." A lot like parenting, taking time to build a relationship with trust and instruction/proper correction will go a lot further than constant belittlement and physical punishment.

  7. I have seen those types of comments, and those can be demeaning. While some of the points are valid who are we sitting behind the keyboard to say, that should be a conversation for the athletes, their parents, and coaches.

However, I do think there was a projection from the claims that this thread in particular was diminishing the kid's accomplishments. But, I do agree with your broad statement reflecting this forum as a whole.

  8. No one is insulting the kids, don't try to turn this around on them haha. They clearly only have an issue with you using statistics to state the fact that it is easier to be a NCAA All-American which is a ridiculous notion by the way. That is like stating Larry Owings a top 5 NCAA wrestler all time because he beat Dan Gable. It doesn't work that way.

Although I commend you for sticking up for the kids, I like the All-State team and show casing a rather overlooked sport even if it is just taking the top 4 without a lot of thought being put behind it.

But, no one is attacking the kids they were pointing out your flawed claim that it is harder to be All-State in TN than it is to be All-American in the NCAA.

Blackman is stuck in the same district as Cleveland and Bradley. Unless BC drops off HUGE Blackman will continue to not qualify for the duals.

Just to clarify they are in the same sectional not district, although I think we all know what you meant. And the regions/sections usually get shaken up every reclassification cycle and I don't know if Rutherford and Bradley county have ever competed for a spot at state before this last cycle, so it is possible that within the next 3-5 years that Blackman has a clean shot a state every season, although nothing is guaranteed. This should be an enticing position regardless.

  10. I know duals were a few weeks ago and Traditional State is a few days away but I have had this question on my mind for a few weeks now.

Which dual team in which year had the all time best line up, all divisions considered?

Not traditional tournament scoring but a straight up dual, and yes, I am aware that it depends on which weight starts first and which team reports first, but if they wrestled 100 times who would win the majority?

What about the days when there were no divisions and you only had a 16 man bracket.  The cream will rise to the top

That is true, but you have to take into consideration that participation levels have risen over the years and it only makes sense for the number of divisions to grow with the sport. There is a sweet spot where if there are too many divisions/champions it becomes oversaturated and loses its value. On the other hand if there is too few divisions/champions it turns kids away to other sports where they feel like they have a better shot at winning. I think we can all admit losing isn't fun.

With a 32-man bracket for AAA and 16-man bracket for A-AA this past classification cycle it makes logical sense for there to be 2 even 24-man brackets since everything will now be evened out. However, I'm not sure if that is the approach TSSAA will take.

  12. With the public schools division being divided up to an even 75 - 75 split this upcoming season, how will the state tournament format be set up? I couldn't see them having one division qualify more for state than the other, but I might be wrong.

    32-man bracket for both divisions

    24-man bracket for both divisions

    16-man bracket for both divisions

A sub-state format with the top four from each region go onto the sub-state (two regions combined to make 4 total sub-state tournaments) and have an 8 man bracket with the top 4 coming out and going to state? 16-man bracket at state?

    Any thoughts?

So ummm....what happened at the end of that 145 match?

Early on in the match Parton and Bennett were tied up and Josh's nose hit Riley's head pretty hard. There was a significant amount of blood. They attempted to stop the bleeding by wrapping tape around his head but the match was stopped a few more times cause he kept bleeding. Eventually he ran out of blood time. Unfortunate way for a finals match to end, however, Riley was up when Josh's nose started bleeding.

How can anyone even argue that Hunter Mason is not the pound for pound king? What you could argue is he might be the best pound for pound in any of the divisions and the kid's only in 10th grade! Someone said it already, but I think they're spot on... you have to look at what these guys have done outside of TN. For instance, the top guys in most of the weight classes rarely even wrestle a full 3 periods unless it's in the state semis or state finals, so just looking at their results in TN lends a shortsighted view. Hunter has an impressive resume on the national scene and is nationally ranked, which says it all for me. I find it hard to imagine even someone like Daniel Uhorchuk could keep it close with Hunter Mason if they were in the same weight. I would trade my Auburn-Alabama tix next year to see a Hunter Mason v. Garrison Dendy (DII, Baylor) match though!

If only... I wish we could see Mason, Dendy, and McDaniels in the same bracket. The finals would be a top 5 all time TN matchup.

Just help me remember...exactly how many overtime’s did Deuce Morton wrestle that AAA kid before his match with Wolfe? Was it 3? I’d say anybody would be gassed after that. The 220 will be tough. I’m not betting  against Deuce. Until he looses it, he’s #1. I’m hoping he can “get one for the thumb!” 2xFootball and (hopefully) 3xWrestling State Champ. The hour approaches.....

I had a hard time with the 220 weight class, there are a lot of quality wrestlers and it'll be a fun bracket to watch in two weeks. Between Morton, Wolfe, Pacetti, and with Clevenger's win over Algarawi yesterday he could also make some noise. It'll definitely be a tough road for any of them to claim the title.

I don’t see 2 time defending state champ at 195 (now at 220) and 2 time defending 4A football champ Deuce Morton on this list? I can’t see leaving such a dominant wrestler off? I guess it’s because we are in East Tennessee. The land of no respect. If he can pull it off, he would leave school with 5 state titles. 3 wrestling and 2 football. As it stands now, not to shabby with 4. Your thoughts?

Big Dave there is another thread that discusses the A/AA P4P and Mr. Jonathan Morton is mentioned in that list.

  17. Thanks oceansize42. That's disappointing to hear, I had heard this circling around but wasn't sure if it was true or just a rumor. If it is official then it would make sense, but its still heartbreaking for a lot of wrestlers this season. Thankfully there is a tournament at all.

If someone has seen some sort of official statement or has been in a TSSAA meeting where this has been discussed I'd appreciate some further insight.

The governor has removed attendance restrictions starting February 1st.

Who has the pull to get TSSAA to let 4 in per weight class from each region as normal?  We all know that good kids are going to get left out in the some of the more capable regions.

Doesn't sound good on the TSSAA side as they were quick to highlight how his mandate doesn't seem to mean much to them in that they can maintain current rules.

Did I miss something?  When did they officially announce that there was going to be less than 4 wrestlers per weight class for traditional state?

  19. I just imagine Cody getting on CoachT and seeing grown men arguing about if he made weight on any given particular day. But I bet he has better things to do than waste his time reading these meaningless arguments. I think we should give it a rest. Quit acting like you were offended because someone made a comment about Cody's weight or desire to drop weight or whatever it is you think he implied. Lets get back to actually talking about wrestling.

In what stage of your research did you see Garrett Foreman at 170? Pretty sure he's never weighed that much in his life... also its been stated multiple times that Colby Dalon is now at Lakeway... a private school.

Good catch, Garrett Foreman appears to be wrestling at 145/152 this year not 170. And thanks for the heads up on Colby Dalon was not aware he went to Lakeway. They are pulling quite a bit of talent this year.
