Lyon County wins the Kentucky State championship

I saw both the semifinals and finals in person.  Was kind of conflicted on who to pull for with Harlan being the local team and Lyon being the 1A school.

Not sure why they play the semifinals and finals on the same day, but I would say that definitely hurt Harlan County as they only had two hours between their semifinal till they were warming up for the championship game.  And their fans have definitely voiced their displeasure on social media over it as well.

Congratulations tribe.  Maybe we can meet up this week.  I'm planning on staying 2 days even if we lose

Sadly, I won't be able to come unless we make it to Saturday.  Wife and I both have to work... I have vacation days left, but she doesn't and I won't come without her.  Hate missing possibly these seniors last game though... it's killing me.

  3. We (Dobyns-Bennett) are probably the underdogs for sure.  Lost a key player mid season due to an ACL.  However, since that time, our girls have only lost once (region championship to Sevier County).

They've been playing very inspired basketball of late.  Wished I could make the trip, but I won't be able to unless we make it to Saturday.

  4. Still trying to unwind from a long day of going to Murfreesboro to watch my friend Courtney Whitson on senior day at MTSU and then hustling back to Farragut for the Lady Indians game!

SO.... how much of a chance do the Lady Indians have against Coffee County?

I think back a couple years ago and the boys title run began in the quarterfinals against.... Coffee County.

I haven't looked at the bracket yet... hoping we are not on the same side as Bradley Central.  I am just so happy for these ladies.  They could have packed it in and folded after Hannah's injury, but instead have gotten stronger.

  5. Yeah... thanks for losing to Farragut... Lol.

We beat them earlier in the year at Roundball in the Hall.  Lost to Bearden however at the Sullivan East tournament, so the Lady Indians get someone who they know they can beat.

Y'all have the best team in the upper East.  I've got Y'all then Crockett, us and Betsy.  I think etown and cland are close. They've gotten much better later in the season.

Yeah well.... I'm not sure we would've beat much of anyone last night.  Led 5-4 at the end of the first but it was all downhill from there.  Credit to Sevier County with a relentless defense and we never could solve it.

Bright side is we do get Farragut who upset Bearden in Region 2.  We beat Farragut earlier in the year at Roundball in the Hall at Johnson City, so it is a winnable game for the chance to go to the Boro.

  7. Hoping we can win tonight and meet Farragut on Saturday.  I think we can beat Sevier County... it will be tough, but can be done I think.

We played both Bearden and Farragut during the season.  Lost to Bearden in the Food City Thanksgiving deal at Sullivan East, beat Farragut at Roundball in the Hall at Freedom Hall in Johnson City.

Those Lady Greene Devils get the big win over a very talented David Crockett team.  Not many people gave Greeneville much of a chance since they lost 5 Seniors from last year.  This years team bought in totally - and Coach Watts did an outstanding coaching job!

I told my friend from Crockett that I had a bad feeling when I saw that Volunteer upset Greeneville in the district tournament.  Dobyns-Bennett played both and Greeneville by far was the much tougher of the two.

Hate it for Crockett and my friend as this was by far their best season ever.

  9. We win 53-42 over Morristown East! First sweet 16 bid for the Lady Indians since Courtney Whitson was a senior. Speaking of which, I was supposed to go watch Courtney on senior day Saturday at MTSU. So now this puts me in a conundrum. The Lady Blue Raiders have another home game after Saturday, next Saturday on state championship day, so I think I will watch the Lady Indians Saturday and go down for state championship Saturday and see Courtney play her final home game as well.

If Daniel Boone can somehow beat Sevier County in the game going on right now, we'll have a doubleheader on Wednesday I'm guessing with 1A and 4A since the 4A district tournament was at West Ridge.

  10. Region semifinal for us tonight at Morristown East against the homestanding Hurricanes.  We play the early game which sucks since I work in Abingdon, don't get off until 5, have to run by the house and pick up my wife and then make the hour plus drive to Morristown.  I will probably miss the majority of our game.  And obviously if we get knocked out, there's no sense in staying for the second game.  So I may pay $8 to see roughly 20 minutes of basketball tonight.  Wished they wouldn't start them until 7, but I guess it's fair so the D-B and Boone kids can get back at a decent hour.

  11. The D-B loss at West earlier in the season was a bit of a fluke... the refs who worked that game that night was the worst crew I've ever seen on the Tennessee side.  Especially the one little snowflake ref who couldn't take even one word of criticism.  Between the girls and boys games that night, D-B was assessed 5 technical fouls.  They definitely cost the girls the win that night.  Not saying they cost the boys, but the boys game would have been much closer with a more adept crew working the game.

  12. Tribe beat the snot out of the Wolf Pups last night and get a rubber match with Mo West on Saturday.

Meanwhile Boone beat the Hill and sets up the Toppers with a tough quarterfinal on Saturday against Sevier County.  What a shame. *insert sarcasm here*

    Region 1-4A tournament quarterfinals Saturday:

    Morristown East vs. West Ridge

    Science Hill vs. Sevier County

    Morristown West vs. Dobyns-Bennett

    Daniel Boone vs. Jefferson County

    Who's everyone got?

I'll go with East, Sevier, D-B and Boone in the quarters.  East and D-B in the semis and East in the championship game.

Take 26 up into VA, stay on 58/421 till Clinchport. Take a left into VA 600, and it takes you all the way to Kyles Ford. It's really not that bad. I'd personally much rather have to drive to Sneedville than Cosby, honestly.

That's the way I went the time I drove it as well, but I live in Blountville anyway.  Figured other folks had different ways there.  Lol

Saw where Hampton knocked South Greene ladies off the district throne.  Happy Valley will probably end up at Pittman and get hammered. Unfortunately any District one 2A has to face Pittman and if by a miracle made it to regional finals with them and loose, would probably travel to McMinn Central.  One tough road.   Think Cloudland is only one that makes it to state on this end.

I will go with Cloudland, North Greene, and David Crockett.

Although with Crockett they may have got the tougher end of the deal with Volunteer winning the District 2 tournament and probably having to face Greeneville in the semis now instead of the finals.

As much as I would love to see the Lady Indians make it, it will be difficult getting by either East or Sevier County next week in the region.  If they get out of region, then Bearden awaits in the sectional potentially.

  15. RebelYell is correct in that the season is drawing nigh.  We should have beat Science Hill by 20 Saturday night, but we make too many mistakes and shoot our own selves in the foot.  Pretty much a recurring theme with this year's Indians.  We've played two good games all year against West Ridge and Greeneville the second time around. IF we can beat West Ridge tomorrow and go to West Saturday, there's a good chance we can at least make it to next week, but that's probably about it.

Waco is also correct.  I told my wife leaving Saturday in my angry state of seeing our performance... "Everyone better get their licks in this year, because next year and the year after, everyone's @$$ is grass!"

Back to Saturday for a minute... it was a little interesting to see a certain Topper player foul out in OT the other night, run off the court, slam the locker room door, breaking it in the process, and one of the assistant coaches have to run him down.  And then his uncle and future brother in law get removed by the Sullivan County cops.

I am hoping for a Boone win tomorrow night, so the Toppers have to face Sevier County, so the Smoky Bears can end that season on Saturday for them.

  16. So, last night was a night of pleasant surprises...

We played Greeneville in the season finale last night.  The injured Hannah Frye started the game for us.  I was sitting there kind of perplexed wondering what was going on.  Greeneville wins the opening tip and goes down and scores uncontested.  We hand the ball back to the Greeneville player on the inbounds who scores again.  4-0 Greeneville.  We inbound the ball to Hannah who walks down and scores.  Greeneville hands the ball to her again and she scores again. 4-4.  Game is stopped for recognition as Hannah reached 1,000 for her career.

I had no clue when she suffered the season ending injury against Wise Central, she was that close to 1K.

Classy move by Greeneville and the game officials for allowing this to happen last night.

As for the game itself, we won 66-61.

As the boys game is set to begin, Caroline Hill and Hannah brought me and my wife a Thank you Card and a $25 gift card signed by our eight seniors just for being supporters and for not missing a game over their tenure.  I don't have a daughter on the team.  We're just fans.  It brought tears to our eyes that they thought of us like that.  What an amazing group of young ladies.  Hoping Saturday is the beginning of a long and successful post season run for these girls.

Not going to lie, getting to the glass house will be a tall task with Bearden and Farragut in that same sectional.  And even Sevier County being in the same region.  But these girls proved a lot of folks wrong that they wouldn't win the conference after Hannah's injury.
